REVIEW: Eggo Seasons Limited Edition Pumpkin Spice Waffles

Eggo Seasons Limited Edition Pumpkin Spice Waffles

With fall in full swing and Halloween just around the corner, everyone has got pumpkins on their foods and on their minds. I’ve recently consumed pumpkin pies, pumpkin breads, pumpkin spice lattes, and pumpkin ice creams. I’ve decided what my favorite pumpkin microbrew is (Woodstock Inn Autumn Ale), who would be Pumpkin Spice in a Spice Girls reboot (Snooki), and whether or not I can pull off calling people “pumpkin” (I can’t).

Despite not knowing what a real pumpkin even actually taste like, I was starting to get pretty sick of eating pumpkin flavors, thinking about pumpkins, and typing the word pumpkin.

The most recent contributor to my pumpkin fatigue is the Eggo Pumpkin Spice Waffles. As part of the Eggo “Seasons” line, these waffles are supposed to contain the autumn flavors of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. I found them at Target on sale for $2.00 for a pack of 10.

When I opened the package, the fantastic aroma of the waffles hit me immediately. All the spices shined together and really captured what I imagine as the scent of autumn, or at least as the scent of autumn desserts. Throwing two waffles in the toaster was equivalent to lighting a flavored Yankee Candle in making my apartment smell delicious.

The waffles also tasted pretty appetizing, though not nearly as appetizing as they smelled. Cinnamon was the most noticeable spice, while the pumpkin flavor was fairly understated and left the waffles with slightly more sweetness and a touch of bitterness that regular Eggos don’t have.

If you generally have maple syrup with your waffles, these Pumpkin Spice Eggos are definitely not flavorful enough to allow you to forgo your usual sweetening. (Sidenote: I love the Target brand maple syrup. I love their syrup on pancakes, I love it on pizza. I take their syrup and put a little bit in my hair when I’ve had a rough week. What do you think holds it up, slick?)

I wouldn’t say the Pumpkin Spice version is the best limited edition waffle that Eggo has ever released, but they tasted good, smelled wonderful, and came at a really great price. If you’re tired of eating pumpkin flavors, too, you should still think about buying a couple packs – considering the waffles are just 20 cents each, I plan to leave them around the apartment and never go to Yankee Candle again.

Item: Eggo Seasons Limited Edition Pumpkin Spice Waffles
Price: $2.00
Size: 10 waffles
Purchased at: Target
Rating: 7 out of 10
Pros: Smelled fantastic. Tasted cinnamon-y and a bit sweeter than regular Eggos. Only $2 a box. Target brand maple syrup. Wedding Crasher quotes.
Cons: Didn’t taste as good as it smelled. Didn’t really taste all that different from a regular Eggo. Pumpkin fatigue. Not knowing what real pumpkins taste like. I don’t actually shop at Yankee Candle. But seriously, why are those Yankee Candles so expensive?

  1. delicious looking picture…

I can’t say I get too excited by waffles with a touch bitterness – I wonder if that was intentional on their part.

  2. Mmm i wish we had anything like this in the UK! especially pumpkin spice..i get so jealous of you guys when you get pumpkin spice lattes at starbucks at xmas :(!

  3. hahah waffle candles. that would certainly be interesting.
I feel like pumpkin tasting things are never as pumpkin-y as they should be. like the pumpkin coffee I had this morning. SLIGHT taste of pumpkin. I WANT MY PUMPKIN FLAVOR! 🙂

  4. I actually work at Target and going through grocery have been overwhelmed with all of the seasonal flavored things that have came out as well particularly since I am OBSESSED with pumpkin. I got these a couple of weeks ago and though they were good I do have to agree that the flavor isnt nearly as strong as you get when you open the box. As much as I love pumpkin I am usually disappointed by the holiday items because they go so strong on the spice aspect whether taste or smell that you lose the pumpkin itself and this sadly holds true here. It does have a nice unique flavor and I am a huge waffle fan anyway, but you dont get the strong taste you think youll get. I did pair mine with just a dollop of whipped cream instead of syrup and thought that melded with the spices nicely so it wasnt bitter

  5. Lisa I dont remeber what company made it but I actually had a candle that was pancakes and maple syrup and OMG would make me drool constantly because it was so exact in the smell I cant even count how much I ate waffles around then:p

  6. Every year around this time my wife craves pumpkin flavored products….I just don’t get it, its so promotional.

If the general public liked pumpkin spice so much they would have it year round.

However I do consume at least 6 eggos a day so I will take your article under advisement while shopping as I know if I saw these I would buy them.

    Nice investigative work!!!

  7. I didn’t catch a pumpkin aroma when I opened a box of these, but since my toaster is broken, I had to heat some in the oven, and they made my kitchen smell heavenly.

  8. The Targets here (in Oklahoma) are carrying them I dont know what other stores….they probably wont be down the main aisle..check on ends probably grouped with other holiday stuffs

  9. I think pumpkin is relatively bland until the spices are added. I love these waffles and I’m hooked!!! I taste no bitterness, only the sweet taste of clove, ginger, and cinnamon! These are Delish!!!

  10. We ate a a couple of boxes of these last Fall and I am already looking for them again this year… so far no luck.

  11. I don’t mean any disrespect, but if you are a person who is “not knowing what real pumpkins taste like,” perhaps you’re not well qualified to review the product. Again, not meant to be offensive, but let me handle this. As a Jerseyan, where we love our apples and our gourds, I can say these waffles are GREAT. They just changed my life. Hint of pumpkin, nothing too overwhelming or sweet (which I find to be a problem with many pumpkin recipes) and delicious. HAPPY FALL! Enjoy 🙂

  12. Did a taste test at SAM’s Club on Saturday! Delicious! I will be buying a box this week!! So tasty I will not even need butter OR syrup….yum and I save calories too!!!

  13. Enjoyed the pumpkins waffels, I have them plain or top them with sliced strawberries, no butter or syrup, will be buying more.

  14. I have tried these Eggos and they are wonderful. I agree with the people who say the spices are just right. I have tried them plain and with real maple syrup and they are great both ways. The only problem, I can’t find them any more!

  15. I love the pumpkin waffles!!!! I am searching for them now. My target is sold out. I I wish I would have purchased more boxes. I love them with my Justin’s vanilla almond butter! Its the best treat after a long day of work.

  16. I love the pumpkin spice waffles and was able to buy a couple, went back to several Target’s yesterday and they did not have them . Please The fall season just started so please Eggo make some more pumpkin Spice waffles .
