Update: Click here to read our Ruffles Ultimate Kickin’ Jalapeño Ranch review

While looking at the gluten-free products page on the Frito-Lay website, because that’s what I do for fun, I came across a new line of Ruffles potato chips — Ruffles Ultimate.

What’s “ultimate” about them? According to this post on the Taquitos forums, the chips are thicker than regular Ruffles, which give them deeper r-r-ridges. The chips come in three flavors: Original, Kickin’ Jalapeño Ranch, and Sweet Smokin’ BBQ. There’s also a Ruffles Ultimate Smokehouse Bacon Flavored Dip.

First, Frito-Lay gianted Cheetos, then they jacked Doritos and now they ultimated Ruffles. I hope they grande Fritos next.

If you’ve tried any of the Ruffles Ultimate flavors, let us know what you think of them in the comments.

  1. Tried the “Kickin’ Jalapeño Ranch” flavor. HATED IT!!! What were they thinking?

  2. I tried the Kickin’ Jalapeño Ranch so far. It wasn’t bad. Solid jalapeño flavor but the ranch really cooled it down. Probably wouldn’t buy it again, but that’s more because I don’t like Ruffle’s ruffles. I also bought the Sweet Smokin’ BBQ, but I haven’t tried it yet.

  3. Just had the Sweet Smokin’ BBQ. These aren’t “delicate” chips. They are tough, bold and overwhelming. There is a powerful smokey BBQ flavor and they have lots of heat. I’m wondering if “ruffles” is still an appropriate brand name for this chip.

  4. Tried the Kickin’ Jalapeño Ranch thought they were disgusting and smelled like dirt. Also tried the SWEET & SMOKIN’ BBQ. They have quite a bite to them but overall very good I must say one of the better BBQ’s.

  5. I am eating the smokehouse bacon dip. It is wonderful! It has pieces of real bacon. Bacon is the 3rd ingredient. It takes like it has a strong sour cream base.

  6. Tried the “Sweet & Smokin’ BBQ”, and I thought they were great! Had a sweet/spicy taste to them with a extra crunch! I’m always looking for new flavor of chips and I must say Ruffles did a great job! Bravo!

  7. I tried the kickin jalepeno ranch.
I must say, the thicker ridges is awesome. I love super crunchy chips. I feel like it’s easier to only eat a few that way haha!
The taste was good, but a little lacking. Not spicy enough, but other than that pretty solid.

  8. I just ate the BBQ one and it is so ****ing good, the thicker chips and crunchier, less delecate and more hearty. The flavoring is excellent with a spicy/sweet taste, it is now my favorite BBQ chips.

So I just waited a couple minutes, had some water then opened a bag of the Kickin’ Jalapeno Ranch, although it’s still very good, it wasn’t as impressive as the BBQ chips. Don’t expect it to be spicy, it just has a jalapeno flavoring in it, with ranch flavoring. I feel safest describing it as a jalapeno ranch dip taste? I don’t know, these are both hella good and thick chips, hearty, delicious, get eeem.

  9. I tried the Kickin’ Jalapeno Ranch and thought they were terrible. They smelled and tasted a bit like cauliflower. They also weren’t very hot, considering they were supposed to have jalapeno in them. I ate a few and will toss the rest of the bag away and give F-L a call to complain.

The bigger ridges would probably work well for dip though.
