SPOTTED ON SHELVES – 2/25/2013

Here are some interesting new and limited edition products found on store shelves by us and your fellow readers.

Kool-Aid Liquid

Oh yeah! No more choking on Kool-Aid powder clouds when dumping the contents of a Kool-Aid packet into a pitcher. (Spotted by Marvo at Target.)

60th Anniversary Peeps Vanilla Creme

Peeps are 60 years old! Do you know what would be an awesome way to celebrate? With birthday cake-flavored Peeps, of course. (Spotted by Amy at Target.)

Peeps Birthday Cake

Oh look, here they are! Why do they come in such a weird color? (Spotted by Dubba at Walmart.)

fig newton baked apple cinnamon

I thought Nabisco already made Baked Apple & Cinnamon Newtons. It turns out they didn’t, but they once made Apple Newtons and Caramel Apple Newtons, both of which were discontinued much quicker than Apple’s Newton. (Spotted by Dubba at Market Basket.)

Blue Diamond Almonds Strawberry Blueberry

This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue almond – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red almond – you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. (Spotted by Eric at Harris Teeter.)

  1. My goodness absolutely all of these items look disgusting. Special mention to the almonds’ way too vibrant color.

  2. Here is what I think of those new products (haven’t tried them yet)

Kool Aid Liquid- A stupid rip-off from MIO

60th anniverary peeps- those look good it vanilla creme

Birthday party peeps- Those are very tempting but the blue sugar is not right they should had done a mixture of various of colored sugars

Newtons- BORING! I don’t like the dry texture of those cookies

Blue Diamond Almonds- WOW! Fruit flavored almonds however I’m not sure if they added food dyes or Red #5?

    1. Kool Aid Liquid isn’t really a ripoff since MiO and Kool Aid are both under the Kraft umbrella (along with Crystal Light). Dasani Drops is a ripoff of MiO.

  3. Fruit flavored almonds sound kind of crazy, though I’m surprised they didn’t go with cherry flavored almonds, cause that would make a bit more sense.

  4. I tried the strawberry Blue Diamond and found them rather enjoyable. Unlike the coconut and pumpkin spice flavored variants, the strawberry flavor actually remained for a while after biting them.

  5. The original Apple Newtons were really good (as were the strawberry, don’t know if they still make those). I might have to try this new Apple Newton version.

BTW, I wonder if you had a Peep from 60 years ago if you could tell the difference between it and a ‘fresh’ one.
