SPOTTED ON SHELVES – 9/25/2013

Here are some interesting new and limited edition products found on store shelves by us and your fellow readers. If you’ve tried any of the products, share your thoughts about them in the comments.

Hell's Kitchen Creme Brulee Kits

I don’t think I’ve seen Gordon Ramsay yell at someone in Hell’s Kitchen for (bleep) up creme brûlée. Risotto, yes. Beef Wellington, yes. Lamb, yes. (Spotted by Sara at Walmart.)

Emerald on the Go! Peanut Butter & Jelly

Yes! Something peanut butter and jelly flavored that has no peanut butter or jelly. It’s the future, man! (Spotted by Joshua at Walmart.)

Kraft Shake 'n Bake Seasoned Panko

But panko is sooooo much better when it’s applied ‘n fried. (Spotted by Sara at Walmart.)

Werther's Originals Baking Caramels

Werther's Original Caramel Specialties Soft Chocolate Caramel

I guess I can chew on one while waiting for the other to melt. (Spotted by Lindsay at Meijer and Sara at Walgreens.)

Nestle Drumstick Peanut Butter Variety

That vanilla one seems out of place in this box of Peanut Butter Variety Drumsticks. (Spotted by Elizabeth at Walmart.)

  1. ohdeargod. must have the hell’s kitchen creme brulee! kind of worried that it seems to be shelf stable, but i do remember liking the jello no bake cheesecake, so… eh? love target archer farm creme brulee in the freezer section, that stuff is amazing! and cute in its own little mini ramekins.

  2. Man, those Hell’s Kitchen kits are hella shady. Notice the absolute lack of Gordon Ramsey’s name on the packaging. I bet he wanted nothing to do with instant creme bulee mixes, then the network was like “screw you” and just sold the rights to the Hell’s Kitchen name instead.

    1. just an fyi, they are as delicious as they are shady. i picked up both earlier today. i made the coffee one. so, so, so good. though, i am sure that the two cups of half and half and two cups of heavy whipping cream along with the shitload of chemicals in the mix had a little something to do with the deliciousness. i mean, i have had better, but at under three dollars and hardly any work, eh.

  3. oh, and to be clear.. i would never buy these again. even though it was good, it is way too unhealthy to actually eat, well, ever. let alone more than once in a blue moon.

  4. I have had the Hells Kitchen Creme Brulee and simply LOVED it. However, it is more of a pudding than a Brulee, although I honestly expected that since it is no-bake. A side note though, I wouldn’t add the flamed sugar to your Creme Brulee. It has a disgusting gas smell, like one notices from a gas grill and it tastes the same. Fortunately, I tasted it once I noticed the nasty scent and didn’t ruin my dessert with it. The Creme Brulee itself however, is simply wonderful!

  5. So I bought this today at the ass beating that is called Super Wal-Mart. I have had it in my buggy before, but was turned off by the 2 cups of cream and 2 cups if half and half and didn’t get it. I wanted to make a nice sweet, but just didn’t want to spend the time, so I gambled. I was a little leary of the included burnt sugar so I left it out and burnt my own sugar. Glad to know that the little torch I bought on a whim and only had used to light cigarettes actually was used for the reason it was made. I will normally drive about 10 miles to a store called Central Market and pick up creme brûlée for like $8.99, but this was pretty tasty and didn’t make 8 ramekins ( I used 5 full le creuset ramekins and 1 tiny, tiny bowl),but I am not counting! And would buy again. I am a pretty good baker/cook, but if there is a tasty easy way out, sign me up. Don’t tell y secret!!!
