SPOTTED ON SHELVES – 11/25/2013

Here are some interesting new and limited edition products found on store shelves by us and your fellow readers. If you’ve tried any of the products, share your thoughts about them in the comments.

Dean's Sriracha Dip

Yeah, I don’t care about the buffalo ranch dip. That flavor has been overdone. I’m more interested in the sriracha one, which is a flavor that hasn’t been overdone yet…but is close. (Spotted by Emily at Pick N Save.)

Archer Farms Fruit Syrups

I think it’s pretty safe to say nutritionists will think this is one of the worst ways to consume fruit. (Spotted by Erin at Target.)

Quaker Warm & Crunchy Granola

Oh, Quaker. May thou never stop feeding us warm breakfasts. (Spotted by Charmi at Walmart.)

Del Monte FruitBurst Squeezers

I probably looked weird standing in the aisle and taking a panoramic photo of these Del Monte FruitBurst Squeezers. (Spotted by Marvo at Safeway.)

Limited Edition Honeycrisp Apple Slices

Hey! Remember when fruits were just “in season.” Now they’re “limited edition.” (Spotted by Joshua at Publix.)

  1. Marvo, I found out that the company that makes Taro Brand poi here also processes the fresh apples for the dippers and oatmeal for McDonald’s in Hawaii. As well as the lettuce and other fresh vegetables that need to be washed and cut up. FYI At least we know it’s a little fresher.

    1. I think the pies are made locally as well. Our pies are different than those on the mainland. Theirs are baked and I think our are fried.

  2. I just had the sriracha dip this weekend. It’s pretty good and has some of the sweetness of the sauce, though it’s toned down by the creaminess of the dip. You have to eat bigger globs of it to get the heat. At times I thought it had a strangely subtle dill taste profile, almost like they mixed hot sauce with a mild ranch dip, but then the next bite didn’t taste like that. Weird.

    1. Being a Sriracha addict (I will literally eat it on virtually everything), my interest is piqued. However, I find a lot of times that the sriracha flavored products are very watered down and perhaps I would have been better off just mixing sriracha into something for a better version of the effect. For example, I think the Subway sriracha sauce is nasty because it tastes like they mixed it with mayo and it isn’t really spicy. So I wanna try this dip but I feel like I’m setting myself up to be disappointed.. and maybe I should just buy my own ranch dip and mix sriracha in myself.

  3. Honey Crisp apples really are limited edition, short season, whether sliced in a bag or whole. Expensive usually but magnificent. The first year they showed up in my local- I kept waiting for a sale, which didn’t happen until near the end of their season. After finally tasting them, I vowed to not let the price put me off the next year. They are that good. I wouldn’t pay full price for any other kind.
