REVIEW: Nabisco Limited Edition Cookie Dough Oreo Cookies

Nabisco Limited Edition Cookie Dough Oreo Cookies

It’s safer to lick the creme of these Limited Edition Cookie Dough Oreo Cookies than a wooden spoon covered in chocolate chip cookie dough, because, you know, E. coli, salmonella, and splinters.

Although, after eating these new Oreo cookies, you’ll probably wish you had a spoon coated in raw cookie dough and a phone with 9-1-1 already dialed and your finger above the send button instead because these Oreo cookies have a flavor that no blindfolded person would describe as “cookie dough.”

During an episode of The Nosh Show, I wondered if the creme would taste similar to the cookie dough chunks in Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream. After buying a pint, digging out almost all the cookie dough, and turning it into a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Vanilla Ice Cream, I discovered the creme also tastes nothing like the Ben & Jerry’s cookie dough, which has a strong chocolate flavor.

Instead, the creme filling tastes more like caramel with a slight coffee aftertaste. To be honest, it was a little off-putting at first lick, but after the initial shock, my tongue enjoyed the flavor. Maybe Nabisco was trying to capture the vanilla extract or maybe Nabisco’s food scientists didn’t taste actual cookie dough because, you know, E. coli, salmonella, and they’re scientists who know bodily fluid stains are the worst.

Nabisco Limited Edition Cookie Dough Oreo Cookies Closeup

The chocolatey chips in the creme couldn’t cut through the caramel flavor, because, with most of the cookies I ate, there weren’t many of them. To be honest, I think they were included just for looks so that the creme could look cookie dough-ish. They don’t add flavor or a chocolate chip-like texture. All the chocolate flavor comes from the crunchy chocolate wafers, which do a wonderful job of cutting through the sweet, tan-colored creme’s flavor.

It’s disappointing the chocolatey chips didn’t add flavor or a different texture because I’m all for Oreo cookies with a little something in the creme. One of my favorite Oreo flavors is the Limited Edition Candy Cane Oreo which has crunchy candy bits. They enhance the flavor of the peppermint-flavored filling and give the entire cookie a distinct crunchy texture beyond what the chocolate wafers provide.

While I think they taste more like a caramel Oreo and the chocolatey chips didn’t really add anything, Limited Edition Cookie Dough Oreo Cookies make my taste buds happy. So if you happen to see them, I say pick them up. And if you miss the opportunity to try them, do not cut up a log of refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough and place the slices between two Oreo chocolate wafers.

Note: I received a free sample of these cookies from Nabisco for this review.

Pros: Makes my taste buds happy. Creme has a sweet caramel flavor with a coffee aftertaste. Crunchy chocolate wafers work well with the sweet creme. Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream.
Cons: Tastes more like caramel or coffee. Doesn’t even taste like the cookie dough chunks in Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream. 1. Yea they don’t capture a true cookie dough taste…sad to say I was disappointed. The marshmallow crispy treat version is where its at!

  2. I can’t wait to get my hands on these. Even if they don’t exactly invoke a cookie dough flavor, the notes of caramel and coffee are right up my alley, so I’m pretty certain I’ll enjoy these.

  3. It was like a countdown from the spotted on shelves segment as to when this would be reviewed, lol. Anyway, that’s disappointing to hear. Although I’m little impartial to the Cookie Dough myself, the idea of a “Coffee” taste kinda turns me away. Glad you could review these, Marvo!

    1. Pauline that is a most excellent idea!

The idea of a coffee taste makes me want to try these even more. Got my Lemon Oreos last week, now I need to track down these and the marshmallow ones. No luck so far!

  4. Let us know if you have any insider info on which stores will be carrying them… I drove around for the Candycorn Oreos and never could find them, so I am hoping not to get my hopes up for these if they are going to be just as elusive.

  5. Meh … I like the peanut butter ones, this doesn’t look like it’s any better. Looks like I’ll have to find a new reason to live.

  6. I don’t know, sounds like one of those flavors that is interesting in theory but that they really shouldn’t have tried.

  7. I found some “cookie dough” like flavor in them. It lies in that brown sugar-y type taste. I think texture to the creme would have aided the cause on this cookie.

    1. Walgreens had them here, sacramento,ca. They should be in the bigger stores TARGET, WALMART by now. Happy hunting.

  8. Yeah I agree but to tell you I think it was the brown sugar that they used the after taste was something odd but it did have that sugar crystal effect to it Waiting for the Marshmallow crispy to come around my area i would love to try that one
P.S. How did you ever get a free sample of cookies I love tasting food out and giving my opinion out.

  9. Please someone tell me where I can get cookie dough and marshmellow crispy I have looked all over we are very big fans of the limeted edition love bannana split birthday cake sherbet and many more we enjoy trying the new ones but cannot find them help in michigan

  10. This is the nastiest oreo I have ever tasted. If I wanted coffee tasting cookies, I would have bought some! Doesn’t even taste like cookie dough! On another note, I get more cookies in the original oreo and the doubled stuffed oreo. Waste of my money. My kid doesn’t even like them and that is saying something!

  11. Was looking forward to these when I found them in the grocery and they ended up being a disappointment. Thinking vanilla wafer’s rather than Oreo’s traditional chocolate would taste better.

  12. The smokey molasses flavor is nauseating. I thought maybe it was the dark chocolate cracker, but scraping the creme only, there isn’t anything familiar or joyful, delighting , craveable, or wanting me to buy more about these. Good thing they are Limited. They should limit them more and just not put them in my store. I was really looking forward to this type of idea . My kids said OoooGross !

  13. I actually enjoyed these more than regular Oreos! I loved the taste of brown sugar and found the chocolate in the cookie halves to be more than enough to make up for any lack in the filling. I didn’t detect any hint of coffee flavor.

  14. Any idea where I can find Oreo Cookie Dough here in NYC? There are packs of Oreo Marshmallow Crispies here in Walgreens Times Square by the way, for those who are searching for them.

  15. i agree at first i taste a little coffee…but after the SECOND box, i freaking love coffee, thick fluffy filling recalls the lightness of a double stuffed oreo and the diabetic sweetness of molasses. And as i mournfully down my last cookie, i reminisce over the days when an oreo was just milks favorite cookie, now i regret the times that passed, the times we could have had. You are no longer Americas favorite cookie but mine as well.

    1. I too love these. They are excellent with coffee. I got a free sample and now I want more. hope I can find them.

  16. I just bought these from Target tonight and I couldn’t stand them. They have distinct coffee flavor and worse yet with the grainy texture of the cream if licked off. I would never have given these more than a 5. Meanwhile the Marshmallow Treat Oreos are one of the best cookies I’ve had.

  17. I have to disagree with you a little bit there because the first time I tried these I thought they were gonna be gross like all the reviews I have watched so far say but it is the most delicious Oreo I have ever had. I can’t even decide if I like it better than the original or not. The thing is that it does taste like cookie dough to me, most similar to the Breyers Cookie Dough Ice Cream try that and you will see the similarity. If I had to rate it I would give it a solid 9/10.

  18. I bought the cookie dough oreos yesterday and they are horrible! They taste like maple syrup, not caramel or coffee. I want a refund, I feel ripped off. I won’t be able to eat these.

  19. I am not a huge fan of the original oreo and would not bother to purchase a container of them because I don’t think they are worth the calories. I tried the cookie dough and they I thought they were delicious, a thousand times better than anything else oreo has to offer. I love caramel and coffee, but I wouldn’t say these oreos taste like caramel or coffee at all. They don’t taste like real cookie dough, but they do taste like something that is cookie dough flavored (this is like distinguishing between certain fruits and fruit flavored things).

  20. I have both packages and the cookie dough is terrible and the marshmellow isn’t that far off in taste. They need to fire the people who thought these abomonations up.

  21. I liked these cookies. I like to eat raw cookie dough, and well it didn’t taste like cookie dough at all. I do appreciate that they made the filling gritty like real cookie dough. But I did like the flavor.

  22. Check them first… Had a new container of minis and when the top removed an any was in it ugh ugh ugh… beware what’s really between the cookie..

  23. Finally got my hands on them. These cookie dough ones are disgusting. The marshmallow flavor though is pretty good! Makes me think we need more rice krispy treat things like rice krispie treat ice cream??!

  24. these are fine, a little sweeter than traditional oreos, but definitely just taste like mocha flavor oreo. the cream texture is no different and the chips don’t add anything. its a shame because cookie dough texture is so easy to recreate!

  25. Think you should come out with a variety pack so people can try different kinds and then choose our favorites to buy.

  26. What the hell bring these back to New England please. I can’t buy these anywhere and I would really like to.
