SPOTTED ON SHELVES: Silk Cashewmilk

Silk Cashew Milk

What non-peanut nut do you think Silk will turn into a milk next? Will it be Pecanmilk? Walmnutmilk? Brazilnutmilk? Macadamianutmilk? (Spotted by Nicolas at Walmart.)

  1. I’ve only had the unsweetened variety and I love it. Almond milk tends to taste more neutral but this stuff definitely tastes like liquefied cashews. Texture is creamier too. If you like cashews, get this.

  2. Ok… but where is the unsweetened vanilla almond cashew coconut soy milk? I’m starting to think the milk aisle of the future is going to look like a Coca Cola Freestyle machine.

I like the peanut milk idea, though. Give the dairy allergy people yet another milk option, and give the peanut allergy people yet another food they need to avoid.

  3. Walnut milk!!! I am a huge walnut fan and find they are underrepresented in nut butters, candy bars, etc.

  4. Cashew cream (not really hard to make) is a very old substitute for dairy cream in recipes and is allegedly very creamy and delicious. I saw a recipe for it in an old vegan cookbook decades ago that looked do-able even by kitchen-challenged me. Not sure about how well Silk does cashew milk, but I might be tempted to try it sometime to find out.

  5. I have to admit I’ve never tried any milk alternatives, be they soy, coconut, almond, or whatever. I’m tempted to give this a try, though (the unsweetened version). I wish it came in a smaller size; I’m guessing it will be over $4 up here in Alaska, which is a lot if it turns out I don’t like it.

  6. Thought Cashew milk was another fad, until you look a little deeper. Did you know than an 1oz of raw Cashew nuts has 31% DV Copper which is an excellent anti aging mineral. It also has 23% DV Magnesium and 20% DV Manganese both of which are extremely good for controlling your blood sugar (Type 2 diabetes). Shockingly it even has 11% Saturated fats (the good stuff apparently) and 10% DV of protein.
