FAST FOOD NEWS: Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s Redhook Beer Battered Cod Fish Sandwich

Carls Jr Hardees Redhook Beer Battered Cod Fish Sandwich

This fast food fish sandwich season, Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s are collaborating with Seattle-based Redhook Brewery to offer the Redhook Beer Battered Cod Fish Sandwich.

Some of you are probably wondering if you can get wasted eating this fish sandwich or multiple servings of this sandwich. The answer is no. According to the press release, there’s no residual alcohol. All the beer provides is a hoppy, malty beer flavor.

The sandwich is made up of a crispy, beer-battered premium cod fillet, topped with lettuce and tartar sauce on a sesame seed bun. The Carl’s Jr. version of the sandwich also includes tomato while the Hardee’s one has American cheese.

For those of you near Carl’s Jr./Green Burrito and Hardee’s/Red Burrito restaurants, the dual-chain locations will also offer Redhook Beer-Battered Cod Fish Tacos. The tacos feature the beer-battered cod, spicy Santa Fe sauce, shredded jack and cheddar cheeses, lettuce, and salsa, wrapped in a soft tortilla.

The Redhook Beer-Battered Cod Fish Sandwich is available at participating locations beginning at $3.69 or in a combo meal for $5.69. Two Redhook Beer-Battered Cod Fish Tacos are available for $3.99 or in a combo meal for $5.99.

The Carl’s Jr. version of the sandwich has 550 calories, 19 grams of fat, 3.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 1140 milligrams of sodium, 74 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, 12 grams of sugar, and 21 grams of protein. 1. Something seems off….if the Carl’s version has a tomato and the Hardee’s version has cheese, how can the Carl’s version have MORE calories and MORE sodium than Hardee’s version? Leaves me scratching my head….

  2. After seeing the commercial, and going to several local resturants that have beer-battered fish on their menu, and liking them, I couldn’t wait to try this sandwich…so I went to my local Hardee’s today try out the new Red Hood battered fish sandwich. Here are my initial impressions:

First…I noted there were no beautiful women, wearing midriff-bearing vests, in the restaurant at all. I was a little disappointed there.

Second, the model in the Hardees/Carl’s Jr. ads must be a very small person…as the sandwich she was eating in the commercial looked huge…the one I got was about 1/2 that size.

Third, when I got my sandwich, I opened it up to look at it and it was you basic sandwich form a fast food restaurant…nothing special…and it looked like a formed piece of fish. It may be a %100 all cod, but it really could be anything…hard to tell.

Fourth, I bit into the sandwich, the fish was crispy on the outside, hot and mostly white-looking fish flesh. I could taste the tarter sauce that was nothing special, the cheese that was OK, and the lettuce which was a bit wilted. It was good as far as fast food fish sandwiches go…It tasted just like a fish sandwich. No special tastes from the Red Hood beer…no malty-ness, no hoppy flavor, nothing special at all.

So, while I like Red Hook beer, and the woman in the commercial is absolutely beautiful, the Red Hook fish sandwich at Hardees is nothing special. I walked away unimpressed.
