SPOTTED ON SHELVES: Awake Energy Granola Bars

Awake Energy Granola Bars (Dark Chocolate Caramel and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter)

Awake Energy Granola Bars (Cinnamon Bun and Coconut Apricot)

There have been many times when I look at all the Quaker and Nature Valley granola bars and think, “You know what those could use? Caffeine.” Then I look at all the cereals and think, “You know what those could use? Caffeine.” Then I look at all the chips and think, “You know what those could use? Dips.” (Spotted by Carla at Walmart.)

If you’re out shopping and see an interesting new product on the shelf, snap a picture of it, and send us an email ([email protected]) with where you found it and “Spotted” in the subject line. Or reply to us (@theimpulsivebuy) on Twitter with the photo, where you spotted it, and the hashtag #spotted. If you’ve tried the product, share your thoughts about it in the comments.

  1. As a distance road cyclist & a congregant of the Church of Everlasting Caffeine Betrothal, I swear by Awake Caffeinated Milk Chocolate bars. Each bar contains 101mg of caffeine and can easily be portioned out as I’m riding. These bars have saved me on numerous occasions from the dreaded endurance bonk. Lack of sufficient nutrition after a time of steady endurance activity can lead to a depletion of glycogen. It causes the muscles to shut down, and the body nopes its way on a nonstop trip to Screwthatistan.

I like Awake Chocolate because it tastes like any other bar of smooth milk chocolate and can be split into 4 easy to manage pieces of caffeine and carby goodness. It helps me keep pedaling so I can shift my focus to what really matters — trying not to get run over by a 4 wheeled 2000lb death machine.

My only qualm with Awake is that the chocolate can get really melty in my pack in the warmer seasons. That’s usually when I pack a Peanut Toffee Buzz Clif Bar instead. I’ll have to keep my eyes out for these Awake caffeinated granola bars. The big deciding factor for me is the caffeine content. Anything <50mg per bar just isn't worth it to me.

    1. Actually, there were four people who sent in photos of these Awake bars. Carla was the first one and she sent all the flavors in one photo, which I cropped down and turned into two photos. Here’s the original photo she sent.

So, sorry, these aren’t your photos.

      1. Didn’t doubt that she did, just a very odd coincidence that the pictures were cropped to the exact cut with the exact amounts of other boxes on each side.

  2. Are these on shelves in the United States or also Canada in Walmart?
    Thank you.

  3. Is it just me or do these bars taste good until you bite into little parts throughout it that taste a bit funny…like you can taste the added caffeine, or something…??! I feel like I had some bites that were very good (the flavor it was supposed to be)…and then when I got to the different tasting ‘POCKETS’ in the bar…it put a bad taste in my mouth…:( really like the effects of the caffeine though…not super jolty and no crash at the end of the day. Love that! Normally I have been very sensitive to certain caffenated things, but this did the job for me. just don’t like the part about some gross bites, unfortunately…anyone else experience this? ( boxes I bought were cinn. Bun and coconut apricot)
