FAST FOOD NEWS: Burger King’s BK Joe is Back

BK Joe

Well, the name BK Joe is back. The coffee is different than what was offered back in 2007.

If you’re one of those people keeping track of Burger King’s coffee offerings, you’ll know they have seen a number of changes over the past decade. First, it was BK Joe. Then it was Smooth Roast Coffee from Seattle’s Best Coffee. Then it was just Smooth Roast Coffee. And now we’re back to BK Joe.

According to Burger King, the new BK Joe is made with 100 percent Arabica beans and has “a bright taste and aroma with a new brewing method that results in hot, fresh coffee that hits the spot throughout the day.”

It’s available hot in 12-, 16-, and 20-ounce sizes and can be ordered with half & half and/or a variety of sweeteners. BK Joe Iced Coffee is mixed with cream, lightly sweetened or flavored with vanilla or mocha, and is available in a 16-ounce serving.

To celebrate the new BK Joe, Burger King is running a 99 cent any size coffee promotion at participating restaurants for a limited time.

If you’ve tried the new coffee, let us know what you think of it in the comments.

  1. Its not bad, but I just like my coffee black. Worth trying for the price even when its not on sale its under 2 bucks for a large in Chicago. I had a coupon for .99 cents any size and got a medium which is big enough for me. I would get a small for .99 if I wanted coffee over spending double at Starbucks.

  2. I used to loving getting Mocha Joe’s from BK. I hope they are still the same. I recall it tasting almost like an iced coffee/chocolate milk combo.

    1. YES! My 2009 teenage self would buy two at a time. I loved those gloriously sweet things and was so disappointed when they got rid of them. I haven’t eaten Burger King since 2012, but I really want to try the new iced mocha to see if it resembles the old one.

  3. Fast food Ice Coffee sweeteners always taste like death. If BK can do a “light” sweetener this might be nice.

  4. Terribly curious about what the new brewing method could be. So many jokes, so little time…

  5. Does anyone know if the so-called ‘proprietary blend’ is actually un-credited ‘Tim Hortons’ coffee? Makes sense since BK is now Tim’s parent company. Tastes pretty good, but I’m just wondering??

  6. The old bk turbo is the best coffee they ever served/sold. Wish they would bring it back. I will try the new but doubt it will meet expectations.

  7. I was so excited BK Joe was back! Quit going to Burger King when they switched to that God awful Seattle crap. Just bought my “new” BK Joe: Not even close to the original. Oh well….life has been fine without Burger King. 🙂

    1. I drank nothing but BK Joe after my first cup, until the switch to Starbucks…YUK!! Can’t believe anyone actually likes that stuff!! I stopped going to Burger King after that, no reason to. If they bring back the old BK Joe with the mellow, satisfying flavor, THEN I’ll start going back. Anyone know where to get the “OLD” stuff?

      1. I loved the original BK Joe. I asked at the local Burger King back when they still sold it and they told me it was made by Douwe-Egberts, in a liquid concentrate version that they could make faster. Douwe -Egberts isn’t sold in US supermarkets. I found ground D-E coffee on Amazon and ordered some in both medium and dark roast, but it wasn’t the same. So I did some searching for the liquid concentrate version and found places online to buy it, but even making it yourself at home in a mug of hot water, it’s about $1 for a 16 oz mug of coffee. I’m thinking about it, but the cheapest containers I’ve found so far are about $110. That’s a lot to spend without knowing if it will turn out the same.

  8. If it’s available up here in Canada, I’ll try it. I met my gf at the city bus station where we lived that had a BK in it, and got to know her over many cups of the original BK Joe back in February 2007.

  9. The new BK Joe is crap. The old BK Joe, I would buy 1-2 cups per day! Douwe Egbert coffee is good. Seattle Best is garbage
