FAST FOOD NEWS: Chick-fil-A Testing Mac & Cheese and Bacon Baked Beans

Chick fil A Mac Cheese and Bacon Baked Beans

Chick-fil-A is testing two new sides — Mac & Cheese and Bacon Baked Beans. The photo above was sent in by Impulsive Buy reader Robbie, who took it at a location in San Antonio.

The Mac & Cheese is a classic macaroni and cheese recipe featuring a blend of Cheddar, Parmesan, and Romano cheeses. The Bacon Baked Beans are kettle-cooked with bacon and brown sugar.

The new sides are only available in Greensboro, N.C., Phoenix, and San Antonio restaurants for a limited time. They’re also an option with the chain’s new Family Style Meals that are also being tested at the same locations.

Chick-fil-A’s Family Style Meals serve four people and include one entree, two sides, and eight mini rolls. There are options to add additional entrees, sides, and beverages. Plates, utensils and condiments are also included. Meals start at $29.99

If you’ve tried the new sides, let us know what you think of them in the comments.

  1. I’m in Southern AZ – we have them too. The mac &a cheese is awesome! The baked beans are unique. Sweet but not BBQ-y like you want them to be with bacon and brown sugar. I hope the mac makes it out of testing!!!

  2. Add Forest Hill, Maryland to that list of participating locations! They’ve been serving them for about a month now. That being said, there’s nothing special about mac & cheese or baked beans that would make me choose them over the waffle fries or another side. I’ll be more excited if they ever decide to sell old fashioned chicken and dumplings!

  3. This is odd to me. Chick-Fil-A appears to be going the KFC route with the “Family Style” meal. They were beating out KFC in the chicken competition. KFC is struggling so why bother doing something which is clearly not working? It is smart that they created Gluten Free options but this meal I do not understand.

  4. Thirty bucks seems a little steep, no? That doesn’t even look like a lot of food, so I’d probably have to add on…at that price I’d be better off going out for an actual meal.

  5. The real news is: Are those the rolls from the Chicken Minis they have during breakfast?! Those things are amazing.

    1. You can buy Sister Schuberts Parkerhouse style rolls in the frozen section at the grocery store. They taste the same. If you buy a nugget tray and have leftovers, you can have chicken minis for breakfast. We do this every Christmas.

  6. I was skeptical about the new sides but excited to try them as well. The mac n cheese is excellent. I sure hope it makes it out of testing! The baked beans are on the sweet side and while the first bite I didn’t care for, I found myself eating the rest of hr portion. And then I ordered it a second time upon return.

As far as the meal goes, they are the same rolls you get with the chicken minis at breakfast, so yummy! But for $30 I don’t think it’s a lot of food, especially if you have teenagers in the house. But I’m content ordering the sides on their own.

  7. I was excited to see the new sides and tried the baked beans today for the first time. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. They were a little too mushy for me and the taste was not a good bacon and brown sugar taste and the juice itself was way too thick. I don’t think I have read any comments about them being very good so I will definitely not try them again. I did not try the mac and cheese but based on the reviews, I will give it a shot next time. Not sure why Chick Fil A is even going this route.
