Product Poll: Japanese Product Edition

A few weeks ago, a Japanese grocery store popped up in my neighborhood. I was excited about this because I love exploring unusual Japanese products that have labels I can’t read, despite the 2 1/2 years of Japanese language I took in college. When I walked through its aisles for the first time and saw all the possible products to review, I almost blew a load, which would’ve needed a cleanup in aisle number five.

Over the past few weeks I’ve bought several products from the store, intending to review them. But I’ve bought too many products and can’t decide which to review, so I’m going to let TIB’s readers decide for me. I’ve chosen three of the products for you to vote on:

1. JT Super Haioku

2. Glico Beer Pretz

3. JT Senoby

The Japanese product with the most votes will be declared the winner. The winner will be eaten and reviewed, while the others will just have the pleasure of going through my digestive system.

To vote, just leave a comment with this post with your choice. Only one choice and vote per person.

I’ll be accepting votes until Friday, October 17th (11:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time).

Now go and vote!

  1. Definitely JT Super Haioku.

I need to know if it’s good, ’cause I have a little asian market down the street from me too.

  2. Ditto.

But Marvo, why not just buy one of them monster D&D dice and just roll it instead?

  3. either Super Haioku or Senoby. if there was a description of them, i could pick better. whichever is a weirder color or smell.

definitely not the Glico beer pretz. those will taste exactly how they look- pretzel/cracker sticks that would be a good snack with beer. or the Haioku or Senoby!

  4. Hmmm… I like the Senoby bottle better, but Super Haioku sounds more exciting, so I gotta go with that.

  5. I’m voting for JT Super Haioku because I need to know what’s going on with the sad dude at the gas pump. Does this yet you so bombed that you don’t care what you pay for gas? Or are you pissed that you spent your money on this instead of gas? Inquiring minds need to know!

  6. JT Super Haioku because I want to know what is going on in the picture on the bottle. Is the guy sad about has prices? Did he spill gas on his pants? Does the sight of gas give him a boner? Also are any of those things super? Please review this product and answer my pressing questions.

  7. JT Super Haioku because the other drink just looks like Calpis.
And because I’m following the crowd.

  8. Gotta go with JT Super Haioku because it looks like the guy on the bottle has a gas pump nozzle stuck up his ass. Cant wait to hear what THAT tastes like. 🙂

  9. where does it say jt super haioku, marv? are we all just voting for it because it has absolutely no english characters on the label? if so, i guess i vote for it to!

  10. From squinting my eyes and reading the katakana on the packaging, I have an idea of what each thing will taste like. I think you might be pleasantly surprised by the Beer Pretz. (Hint: it’s not beer flavored, though.)

  11. I also go with Super Haioku because it looks scarier than the Beer Pretz Spicy Chicken flavor. In fact, I’d love to find the Spicy Chicken Pretz and review them myself, but I’ve never seen that particular variety in any of the local shops in Tokyo.

  12. JT Super Haioku with art analysis, please. I also misread it as Super Haiku, and I was going to write one in support of you reviewing Super Haioku, but I have no idea how many syllables that has (guessing 5?).

  13. Tsukini kawatte, JT Super Haioku!!…. oshiyoki yo?

    (thanks sailor moon!)

Glico snacks are too predictable as are opaque nondescript Japanese drinks. They’re probably both, definitely 100% good sources of sodium and frowns.

  14. Beer pretz ~ da buggah says it’s spicy…I like spicy! Hopefully it’s spicy enough that you will have to drink the 2 bottles?

  15. JT Super Haioku. The Beer pretz will probably just taste like your usual bar mix fare, and the other stuff looks like it either tastes like nothing or gatorade.

  16. JT Super Haioku for its superior name and mysterious appearance.

And for having what appears to be a relative of Bubs from homestarrunner.com on the bottle.

  17. wow, first time sending you an email… although here in israel we don’t have almost anything that you review, i still enjoy to read your blog.
    second – JT Super Haioku.

if you want me to send israeli stuff for you to review – drop a line.

  18. I think the beer pretz look kind of interesting. Not a big fan on sweet beverages, so I’ll go for the pretz.

  19. JT Super Haioku! I need to know if the gas pump means it’s an energy drink or if it gives you gas . . .

  20. I vote for “SENOBY” because it’s got the least votes so far, and I usually root for the underdog. A Google search shows it’s made from… “plant-lactic acid using pure water and milk beverages with calcium”… which sounds interesting.

  21. Another vote for Super Haioku. It’s the gasoline pump that gives it the edge. Petrol flavored energy drink, perhaps?

  22. On the other hand, a little search reveals this intriguing factoid about Senoby: “Japan Tobacco is in the fray with Senoby, a beverage featuring “lactoferrin, which the label describes as “a protein contained in mother’s milk.”

  23. Forget any of these. Review Pocori Sweat, if your store has it.

If they don’t, well…find a new Japanese store.

How can anyone resist a drink called Sweat that looks just like bottled sweat? (milky white, yet translucent. Yum!)

P.S. It’s delicious. Like Gatorade minus any kind of retardedly XTREME flavor.

  24. Beer Pretz, as I am afraid one of the bottles might be unagi flavored soda or something else equally weird.
