REVIEW: Carl’s Jr. Guacamole Bacon Burger

When I looked at the Carl’s Jr. Guacamole Bacon Burger, which consisted of a beef patty, guacamole, two strips of bacon, melted pepper jack cheese, red onions, tomatoes, and lettuce on a toasted sesame seed bun, it reminded of three things: my hardening arteries, the movie Ghostbusters, and Christmas.

This avocado lovin’ burger reminded me of the movie Ghostbusters because the guacamole is the same color as the ectoplasmic goo that made up the green gluttonous ghost, Slimer, and just like the ectoplasmic goo, the guacamole is messy and ends up everywhere. The Guacamole Bacon Burger also reminded me of Christmas because of its excessive use of red and green ingredients. It was like walking through the Christmas decoration aisles at Wal-Mart. The red strips of bacon were like red strips of ribbon, the leaves of green lettuce were like leaves of green wrapping paper, the red onions were like the red tinsel wrapped around the a Christmas tree, and the green guacamole was like the puke from Santa’s overworked, sweatshop elves.

Although the burger did remind me that there are only a little more than ten weeks until Christmas and it used an excessive amount of holiday colors that made me wish I was colorblind, it was one of the tastiest burgers I’ve had in a while and if the Grinch tries to steal it from me, not even Dr. Seuss will be able to save his ass from the beating I would give him. The burger was quite tasty, thanks to the guacamole, which wasn’t too avocado-y and didn’t overpower the other ingredients, like Kim Kardashian’s ass does to other riders in an elevator. The green topping also surprisingly brought a little heat to the burger. The strips of bacon were decent-sized and had a smoky flavor that complemented well with everything else.

The only major thing I didn’t like about the Carl’s Jr. Guacamole Bacon Burger was that there were too many cold ingredients in it. The patty was well cooked, but the vegetables and the guacamole brought down the overall temperature of the burger, which was kind of weird when you’re expecting a hot sandwich.

Beyond its taste, what I also liked about this burger was Carl’s Jr.’s willingness to add ingredients that other fast food places wouldn’t have the balls…I mean, cojones to use. They’ve added a pineapple to their Teriyaki Burger and I think they were the first ones to add jalapeno peppers to a burger.

I just hope the next burger they try to make will remind me of Halloween, perhaps orange tomatoes, black mushrooms, and purple eggplant?

Get on it, Carl’s Jr!

  1. I don’t like guacamole or avocado so I wouldn’t like this burger..but I work at a restaurant and we do have avocado and guacamole as topping options and a lot of people order it and really like it. So good for Carl’s Jr for taking fast food burgers to a new level with special ingredients.

    That said, I totally understand what you mean about the cooler parts cooling down the warm burger. I actually don’t really like cold toppings on my burger, I only eat cheese and grilled/steamed onions (not raw..ick) I’m not a fan of adding lettuce, tomato etc.

    I don’t know why I write paragraphs for comments on this blog..but whatever. It gives people more to read and more time to waste.

  2. Only 55 grams of fat, huh? Hell, my arteries were hardening just READING about that burger. But it does look fairly tasty, albeit rather messy.

  3. I no longer live in the land of Carl’s Jr., but when I did that was my favorite fast-food burger ever. Reading this was like a glimpse back into my days in California.

    You know… back when I could have one of these burgers without wondering how much time it was snipping off of my total lifespan, or exactly where on my ass it was landing.

  4. Oh man, I love avocado and I love guacamole. On the plus side, the avocado is chock full of healthy fat that will help scour away a tiny bit of the unhealthy fat this burger is delivering to your arteries.

  5. i had this the other day
    i’m not a real fan of guacomole, but the commercials made it look really good

    it had the perfect amount of guacomole as far as taste goes and mine wasn’t cold at all

    the only problem was towards the end everything was sliding around

  6. Sounds durn tasty, wish I had a Carl’s Jr. around here.

    I don’t really like guacomole that much, but I have a feeling I’d like it on a burger, since I like most anything on a burger.

    I figure the coldness of the ingredients wouldn’t be a constant thing either, they probably just put some fresh ones out.

  7. That is one of the nastiest looking burgers I have ever seen. Looks like somebody threw up a breakfast of scrambles eggs and partially chewed bacon on a bun.

    I couldn’t eat that. The look and texture of food is important.

  8. I actually tried this the other day… I was a little confused by them marketing it as a “new” product, though. Didn’t they have a similar guacamole burger before this?

  9. I think it actually looks pretty good. It might even encourage me to eat at a Hardees for the first time in like..2 years.

  10. I do love bacon cheeseburgers of all varieties, so I prolly would try this thing. But seriously, 1430mg of sodium! I’d have to drink a lake of water to recover my body’s normal sodium distribution.

  11. Looked about 600x better in the fake restaurant commercial, but I’d gladly scarf this down if you gave me a roll of paper towels.

  12. The look of food is only important if you’re a cannibal. Um. Or so they tell angry bob. Texture can be important, but if you have a quality woodchipper, it’s all good.

  13. Holy crap. This burger is worth 21 points in Weight Watchers (in case anyone cares). I only get 25 a day. Freaking disgusting.

  14. @ angry bob

    You would have to run a really fat person to get the calorie/sodium count of this burger. Still would have to pick the bones out.

  15. I rarely like Carls Jr. commericals but I love the one for this one. The guy trying to make guac in his blender just pleases me. (Mostly because guac isn’t that hard to make, but the noise that the avocados make in the blender just tickle me.)

  16. If this is the tastiest burger in some time, how come it’s only a 7/10? Are you waiting to man up and try the $6 version and give it a 9 like it deserves?

    Try the Prime Rib Burger from Carl’s instead. It’s the best burger, hands down.

  17. @Natalie – I usually enjoy vegetables on my burger — it’s the only way I get veggies — but I think the combination of vegetables and the cold guacamole was too much.

    @Chuck – Yeah, only…and this was the smaller version of the burger. There’s the double size and the Six Dollar version.

    @Reprobate – Oooh. Oooh. I’ll take the physical challenge!

    @Mir – With all the fast food I’ve eaten I estimate that my lifespan will end right about…

    @armauld – I wished they added the amount of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats in it.

    @Shannon – I would eat it because I enjoy living on the edge. WOOOO!!!

    @sean – I think all of Carl’s Jr.’s burgers are messy.

    @Gumboman – I wish Carl’s Jr. was cheaper though.

    @luckinflux – If that was the case, I’d put a paper bag over it.

    @Heidi – They did, but it was only the Six Dollar burger.

    @Nevis – I don’t know if Hardee’s has it. I’m sure they do, but much bigger.

    @TV Revival – Don’t most bacon cheeseburgers have over 1,000 milligrams of sodium?

  18. @Lucas – Had.

    @Neil – My head is still intact. Wait, lemme check. Yup, it’s all there.

    @Ace – I wish I was in a fake restaurant commercial so that way I’d look 600x better.

    @angry bob – I guess if it has more meat, the more appealing it would be to a cannibal. I’m going to go lose some weight right now.

    @DeborahB – I wouldn’t think this would even be on Weight Watchers radar. It just seems like one of those things that has a giant red X over it that should obviously be avoided by those on Weight Watchers.

    @luckinflux – The bones of a human are easy to take out. It’s not like we’re fish.

    @cybele – Sadly, I would do the exact same thing to make guacamole.

    @Bunny – Ugh…I forgot to use my coupon!

    @E – I wish I had a Whataburger here.

    @donkey – The last burger I enjoyed was probably the Carl’s Jr. Teriyaki Burger. I would try the $6 version, but with this economy, I can’t afford $6.
