NEWS: Dunkin’ Donuts Introduces a Waffle Breakfast Sandwich That Makes Me Weep

There used to be two Dunkin’ Donuts within close driving distance from my apartment about 2-3 years ago, but both are now gone. One was knocked down to make way for a Safeway and the other was in a horrible location, which caused it to close and it is now occupied by a Chinese seafood restaurant. If they were still around, I would be able to taste the new Dunkin’ Donuts Waffle Breakfast Sandwich.

Instead, I’m forced to only dream about its cherrywood smoked bacon, scrambled eggs and American cheese in between two maple-infused waffles. Actually, because I can never taste that goodness, I wouldn’t be dreaming. I would be having a nightmare, which would force me to try to Frankenstein it by build one using Eggo waffles, Oscar Mayer turkey bacon, Egg Beaters, generic pancake syrup and Velveeta slices.

The Dunkin’ Donuts Waffle Breakfast Sandwich contains 390 calories, 23 grams of fat, 8 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 1000 milligrams of sodium, 28 grams of carbs, 1 grams of dietary fiber, 6 grams of sugar, and 16 grams of protein. It will be available through March 17 in states that have a Dunkin’ Donuts at a suggested retail price of $2.99.

  1. I actually came up with the idea for a breakfast sandwich between two waffles in a dream several months ago.

I had ordered it in the dream, from McDonalds, by mistake but it ended up being delicious (at least in my mind).

  2. Oddly enough, my own local Dunkin’ Donuts was also shut down and replaced by a Chinese place! It’s about an hour-and-a-half’s drive to the nearest one, but I’m in that area a lot anyway, so I’ll make sure to get a snapshot for your… continued jealousy, I guess.

  3. They don’t have a Dunkin’ Donuts over here, either… 🙁 My boss is from Jersey and he weeps about not being able to go to Dunkin’ Donuts like he can back east. I just kind of sit there and nod and think about how it doesn’t really matter to me because I don’t drink coffee, though they had some good donuts and now I’m missing out because I live in California where these things don’t exist anymore and I type out run-on sentences, though that really doesn’t have anything to do with anything.

  4. Wow, that does look good. And those nutrition numbers – no trans fat and less than 400 calories – almost qualify it as healthy (relative to what I would expect it to be)!

  5. Nah, I’ll pass on that. I tried the McGriddle a long time ago too, and didn’t think that was all that great either.

For savory-meets-sweet breakfast sandwiches, I’ll take Zippy’s most excellent Portuguese Omelet Sandwich, which is made with a FRESH Portuguese Sweet Bread roll, filled with a Portuguese Sausage and (melted) Cheddar Cheese Omelet. SOOOO ono! The ham version is pretty good too.

  6. We don’t have many Dunkin’ Donuts where I live, but this might be worth driving five miles for. (Last summer, when gas was $4 a gallon, it probably wouldn’t have been.)

  7. I live right next to a DD. By right next to I mean I could pee on the building from my couch. Been there once for a cookie
    nothing great.

  8. Oooh, Pomai, thanks for reminding me about the Zippy’s breakfast sandwich; that’ll be my breakfast tomorrow. Looking forward to it now.

Marvo, since McDonald’s already has a very similar product, that Dunkin Donuts sandwich looks kind of unimpressive.

  9. I am eating one right now. No sweetness in the waffle like at McDonalds, and it is terribly dry. And of course, barely any bacon.

I would like to say DD ripped me off, but I’m the idiot who ordered this crap.

  10. I’ve never been able to compare the taste of American cheese to anything other than American cheese. It’s some sort of reflexive conundrum, I think. I still think I’d prefer a two-slice American cheese grilled cheese on Wonderbread over say.. a fromage blanc grilled cheese on sliced brioche with caramelized pears and a drizzle of raw honey.

Both are delicious, the latter probably more delicious, but I can’t trust a person who doesn’t love a good Wonderbread American cheese grilled sandwich.

  11. OhMyFGod, i had one of these over the weekend on my way snowboarding. They are awesome, better than macgriddles HANDS DOWN – it kept me not hungry forever

  12. I tried one of theses today and was disappointed. Waaaaay too salty and too sweet at the same time… I didn’t think this was possible until I tasted this sandwich. I was also expecting the waffles to have a bit of a crisp, but they were soggy. Would not recommend.

  13. You really don’t have any near you?? Holy shit, I can’t even imagine that considering I live in New England and there’s at least one in every town. But usually at least five.
