REVIEW: Jif Omega-3 Creamy Peanut Butter

When I have a child, it’s good to know they will be surrounded by items that will give them the advantages and protections I didn’t have, like Baby Einstein or Baby Genius CDs, parental controlled iPods, helmets, the depreciation of spanking as a form of discipline and Jif Omega-3 Creamy Peanut Butter.

I want my child to excel, succeed and, perhaps someday, rule over your children with an iron fist. In order to make that happen, my child has to physically and mentally develop into a superior homo sapien and I believe the Omega-3 fatty acids in this new Jif Peanut Butter has the ability to make some of this happen.

Omega-3 has been shown to help with brain function, so if I give my future child/everyone’s future overlord the daily recommended amounts of Omega-3 DHA and EPA, which is 160 milligrams, he/she will have a healthy brain and hopefully become intelligent enough to rule to Earth. And along the way perpetuate the stereotype that Asians are good at math.

The Jif Omega-3 Creamy Peanut Butter gets its Omega-3 fatty acids from anchovy and sardine oils, both of which are thankfully odorless and tasteless, but still freaks me out they’re in the ingredients list, along with something called tilapia gelatin. Mmm…anchovies, sardines and tilapia, now that’s an ingredients list a baleen whale can love.

A two tablespoon serving contains 32 milligrams of DHA & EPA Omega-3 fatty acids, which is around 20 percent of the daily recommended intake for Omega-3s.

Despite the weird ingredients this product contains, it tastes like peanut butter. It smells very much like regular Jif, but I thought it wasn’t as creamy or as nutty as the normal stuff. When I ate it on a piece of bread, the flavor of the peanut butter wasn’t as strong as regular Jif. But now that I think about it, does it really matter how well it tastes? Because I’m trying to create a being that will be feared by all, not a peanut butter taste tester.

They say choosy moms choose Jif and I say overzealous dads who want to live vicariously through their child’s rise to world domination choose Jif Omega-3 Creamy Peanut Butter. Of course, my plan won’t work if my child ends up like many kids today and becomes allergic to peanuts.

Pros: A good source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Tastes like peanut butter, despite weird ingredients. High in polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. Easier way of getting Omega-3s than eating fish. Being the father of an overlord.
Cons: I thought it wasn’t as creamy or nutty as regular Jif. Packed with calories. Contains weird ingredients, like anchovy and sardine oils and tilapia gelatin. Peanut allergies.

  1. I love peanut butter. If that could be one thing I could eat all the time with no calories in, my world would be complete. ha ha With that being said I would rather eat fish to get my Omega 3. Also give me super chunky peanut butter. Yummmm

  2. Why is the packaging green? What does green have to do with anything?
Why not pink, or Omega-3 colored? I’m sure crayola has developed colors for acids and proteins by now.

  3. aw goddammit. you peanut-eaters have all the luck. they don’t put any extra love and care or vitamins and world domination-inducing additives in almond butter. i am forced to pout now.

  4. I’ve heard that overlords don’t eat peanut butter but just straight anchovies, sardines and tilapia, so you don’t have to worry about the lack of nutty flavor. It’s all good for Kid Marvo.

  5. JIF peanut butter makes my son break out in a rash all over his face and neck no other peanut butter does that it is evil

  6. angry bob jr. prefers to eat the brains of children who eat these things. mrs angry bob jr. doesn’t like brains so she eats their souls.

  7. Fishy peanut butter — how disgusting. I’m vegetarian, but I think my cats might really like this product.

  8. I love this peanut butter. It’s the only peanut butter I eat now. It’s not fishy tasting because the fish oils are encapsulated in the tiny gelatin capsules. This means it goes down smooth, then in the digestion process the gelatin dissolves and the omega 3 fatty acids are released. Hope this helps clear up some of the confusion. As a new mom I did a lot of research on this subject because I’m always worried about weird ingredients on a label and what they do.

But yes, if you can get your kids to eat actual fish (sardines, salmon, limited amounts of canned tuna), that would be optimal, since the amount of omega 3 in this peanut butter is very small. Better than eating normal peanut butter yes, but it shouldn’t be your kids’ only source of omega 3 throughout the day. Another great source is farm fresh eggs, if you can get a hold of any. They are packed with omega 3, unlike store-bought eggs.

  9. I’m so surprised you didn’t list or mention the one ingredient they want to keep hidden but is in full view on the ingredient list… Way, way way before you see the omega-3 fish on the tail end of the ingredient list you’ll find FULLY HYDROGENATED OIL.

You’d actually think this stuff was healthy for you the way they advertise OMEGA-3 on the front label in a big green placard. They should have a big red placard twice the size telling you about the nasty artery clogging, heart attack and stroke causing FULLY HYDROGENATED OILS.

This Jif peanut butter is a scam and a fraud and Jif should be ashamed at themselves by trying to deceive the public like this.

Ingredients should be: Roasted Peanuts, peanut oil.

  10. Todd:

I am not sure if you know what you’re talking about. “Fully hydrogenated” oils and “hydrogenated” oils are not the same thing. The main culprits that cause arterial disease have been shown to be trans fats. Fully hydrogenated oils contain minimal amounts of trans fats. You seem to have made up some conspiracy about this Jif product on misinformation.

  11. Once you try this you will never eat any other kind. Those other “creamy” peanut butters have nothing on this!
It DOES NOT have a fishy taste at all. I HATE FISH.

  12. Yeah sounds like a great idea until you also think about all of the people who are also allergic to FISH out there… When eating peanut butter, one doesn’t think to true check the ingredients and might end up going into anaphylactic shock. Not to mention that the ingredients do not specify at the bottom that this contains fish, the anchovies and tilapia are only bolded… I think they should write this in 24 pt font on the front and back of the container.
