REVIEW: McDonald’s “New” Chicken McNuggets Sauces (Creamy Ranch, Honey Mustard, Spicy Buffalo, and Sweet Chili)

"New" Chicken McNuggets Sauces (Creamy Ranch, Honey Mustard, Spicy Buffalo, and Sweet Chili)

McDonald’s didn’t put much effort into creating their “new” Chicken McNugget sauces, because they’re mostly the same dipping sauces from their Chicken Selects Premium Breast Strips line. Since they’re not putting much effort into their sauces, I’m not going to put much effort into this review of their sauces.

How much work am I going to put into reviewing these sauces? Significantly less than what I put into playing this McNuggets dipping sauce memory game that McDonald’s is using to promote the sauces on their website.

By the way, my high score was 712 points.

For starters, to show how little effort I’m going to put into this review, I’m just going to list all the “new” flavors, but not take the time to put them in alphabetical order: Spicy Buffalo, Honey Mustard, Sweet Chili, and Creamy Ranch. Then, I’m just going to link to my Sweet Chili sauce review from last year and then not mention Sweet Chili anymore.

I’m also going to link to my my Chicken Selects review from 2004 which included my thoughts on the Spicy Buffalo sauce. Although, the sauce might’ve changed over the years, so I will say the “new” Spicy Buffalo sauce was tasty, spicy, and orange. It tasted like other buffalo sauces I’ve had, but it had a bit more kick than my beloved Hot Mustard Sauce and it was definitely my favorite of the four “new” flavors.

Geez, that was more effort than I wanted to exert for the Spicy Buffalo Sauce. I’ll do better with the last two sauces.

"New" Chicken McNuggets Sauces Upskirt (Creamy Ranch, Honey Mustard, Spicy Buffalo, and Sweet Chili)

Honey Mustard tasted like a sweet weak dijon mustard and Creamy Ranch tasted like the salad dressing you’d find in the middle of a barely-touched vegetable platter at a barbeque.

How’s that for little effort?

Overall, McDonald’s “new” Chicken McNuggets Sauces range from decent to good, but none of them can compete with my beloved Hot Mustard Sauce. Besides that, it’s hard to get excited about sauces that we could’ve dipped our McNuggets into for years if we either asked nicely, paid 10 to 20 cents, or flirted with the right cashier for the McDonald’s Chicken Selects sauces.

(Nutrition Facts – Not available at McDonald’s website or I didn’t want to put any effort into finding out what they are.)

Pros: More sauces for you to choose from. Spicy Buffalo had good flavor and a decent kick. Hot Mustard Sauce. Flirting with McDonald’s employees to get Chicken Selects sauces.
Cons: McDonald’s didn’t put much effort into the “new” sauces. Sweet Chili sauce is still mediocre. Honey Mustard tasted like a sweet weak dijon mustard. McDonald’s calling these sauces “new.” Not putting much effort into this review.

  1. These seem very pointless. How about something spicy, or something with ginger.

Honey will always be my go to followed by hot Mustard and Sweet and Sour.

  2. also, dislike all the disposable single-serving plastic packaging that will end up inside the stomachs of unknowing albatrosses who mistake it for food and die, or else become part of yet another giant island of floating plastic garbage in the sea. on the other hand, i guess the faster all that happens, the faster a selfish uncaring mankind destroys the planet and finds its rightful fate in total extinction. either way, i shall not support mcdonald’s OR its crappy sauces.

    1. How else are the supposed to server single-serve dipping sauces?

      1. Into your bare hands. Just a big dispenser pump. And for the antibacterial freaks, one that works hands free.

    2. Although harmful for the environment, those single serve packages are quite possibly remarkably more hygenic than not having single serve packages.

  3. I bet if you ask them for a hotcake syrup packet in place of a mcnugget sauce they’ll give you one – customer satisfaction.

  4. I’ve been getting honey mustard with my mcnuggets forever and have never been charged extra. None of these are new at all

  5. I’ve always asked for the Spicy Buffalo sauce ever since they came out with the Chicken Selects… Then one day, they were like “We don’t have that kind anymore” and I fell out of love with Chicken McNuggets because I couldn’t any longer have the one sauce I loved (although I found out this wasn’t true).

But the buffalo sauce is different. Like it has more of the milk in it this time, but it has the same taste, just a little bit creamier. I’ve fallen in love with McNuggets again now that I can have my favorite sauce.

But I still laugh that they tried to pass these off as new.

  6. I read somewhere that McDonald’s is taking the chicken selects off the menu this year…rebranding the sauces for nuggets is probably a part of this move…I guess they’re going with the slow fade.

  7. Smug, self righteous people love to wag their finger at anybody who patronizes McD’s or Walmart.

  8. I think this ranch is not the same as the old one. The new one taste like some kind of watery ranch sauce. I wish they hadn’t changed it >.<

  9. First of all, I’d like to say I have been a fan of McDonalds for many years. I enjoy their french fries and nuggets the most. Recently, I’ve noticed the french fries and nuggets I have been ordering have not been up to par. I then figured out it was the “new” ranch sauce that was making my food taste awful. This “new” ranch tastes like someone sprinkled that powdery stuff they put in latex gloves in it. I am thoroughly disgusted and disappointed in McDonalds for doing this. I am currently on a road trip and will not be eating at McDonalds because of this catastrophe.

  10. I’ve been getting a side of ranch dressing for my chicken nuggets and fries for years. stupid mcdonalds.

  11. Until they changed their sauces, I used to “treat” myself to McNuggets and fries from McDonald’s on an occassional basis. I have LOVED the Hot Mustard sauce since it came out. I would pass over chicken strips and “nuggets” at competition fast food places (that are actually much better) just to have the Hot Mustard sauce. Now McD’s is just like any other fast food joint! Jeez, I can get better Honey Mustard and Buffalo Sauce at the grocery store. So while I’m there, I’ll just get some chicken too! They got rid of the Hot Mustard “due to lack of interest? That’s what kept it around for 25 years, huh? Instead of me biting a McDonald’s treat, they can just “bite me”.

  12. Why did you discontinue the spicy mustard. This was very dissapointing to find out that this sauce is no longer available. I do not like the other sauces and wish that you will bring back the spicy mustard sauce. My husband feels the same way.

    1. Everyone loves Buffalo sauce. Your husband just won’t admit it…and that’s not very nice at all.

  13. Well it is just ranch sauce and it is what it is nothing much else.
Unless you expect it to be bloody magical and have Extra cracked pepper and gold flakes in it. Its fast food not a dinner at chez Pierre’s.
