REVIEW: Jack in the Box Jumbo Breakfast Platter with Sausage

Jack in the Box Jumbo Breakfast Platter

For me, breakfast for dinner means serving myself a bowl of some cereal that’s either rainbow-colored or chocolate brown and watching on my computer, and in my pajamas, old episodes of Spongebob Squarepants I bought via iTunes. But now I can enjoy the new Jack in the Box Jumbo Breakfast Platter while I watch Spongebob Squarepants in my PJs.

Just look at the conglomeration of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in the picture above. If that doesn’t fill you up, remind me to never treat you to self-serve frozen yogurt at places that charge by the ounce. The items in a Jumbo Breakfast Platter sound like they could replace some of the gifts in the song, “Twelve Days of Christmas.”

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
What looks like 12 scrambled eggs
11 Pipers Piping
10 Lords-a-Leaping
9 Ladies Dancing
8 Mini Pancakes
7 Swans-a-Swimming
6 Geese-a-Laying
5 Hash Brown Sticks
4 Colly Birds
3 French Hens
2 Pancake Condiments
And a greasy sausage patty.

Of course, this changes slightly if you order the Jumbo Breakfast Platter with Bacon, which I instantly decided against, because I have yet to find a fast food place that fries up decent bacon slices.

Now some of you might be thinking that this conglomeration of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins is unhealthy. But, I believe everything is fine in moderation, and the Jumbo Breakfast Platter isn’t as bad as what Burger King and McDonald’s offers. A Jumbo Jack Breakfast Platter has 747 calories, 47 grams of fat, 10 grams of saturated fat, 1,168 milligrams of sodium. However, a McDonald’s Big Breakfast with Hotcakes has 1090 calories, 56 grams of fat, 19 grams of saturated fat, and 2,150 milligrams of sodium, while a BK Ultimate Breakfast Platter has 1310 calories, 72 grams of fat, 26 grams of saturated fat, and 2,490 milligrams of sodium. But, again, everything is fine in moderation, even the BK Ultimate Breakfast Platter.

As you can see in the photo above, someone at Jack in the Box doesn’t know how to make good scrambled eggs, but they tasted fine. And so did everything else. The mini pancakes were soft; the sausage patty had a wider circumference than other fast food sausage patties; and the hash browns, being in stick form, were easy to dip in ketchup. Overall, the Jumbo Breakfast Platter is a tasty, filling, and inexpensive meal. I paid $3.99 for it, but most participating locations not on this rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean sell it for $2.99. At either price, the Jack in the Box Jumbo Breakfast Platter is a bargain.

However, there’s a way to make it better.

Using the mini pancakes as buns, I stacked half of a hash brown stick, some of the scrambled eggs, and a fourth of the breakfast sausage patty to make a mini breakfast sandwich, which I dipped into the container of Log Cabin syrup. It was damn good and it was as if sugar and salt were consummating their marriage in my mouth.

Sadly, I won’t be able to enjoy it for very long, since Jack in the Box’s Jumbo Breakfast Platter is around for a limited time.

  1. The JIB platter is better than sMcD’s in my opinion.

Wendy’s makes a darn fine applewood smoked bacon strip. They use that bacon both in their breakfasts and on their burgers. I can’t figure out why they an do it well and no one else can. It’s a mystery.

  2. Hey, did you eat one mini pancake before taking the picture?
Cause there’re only seven of ’em there, not eight.

And I agree, the whole platter looks damn good.
Too bad there ain’t no Jack in the Box around here in the no man’s land.

    1. I don’t know if I ate it or if it’s hiding underneath something but there were eight pancakes. Oh, who am I kidding? I probably ate it.

    1. This may sound blasphemous, but I like McDonald’s scrambled eggs. Even though they have a somewhat unnatural yellow color to them.

  3. Platter was good the first time i had it, 2nd was just ok , 3rd time i went out & bought jimmy deans precooked links to add with my platter & by the time i got home platter was cold so i decided to throw the links, hash brown sticks & their patty in the toaster oven, wow i said my links were grat, the patty came out smaller & tasted like a piece of cardboard, it was tasteless & dried out like all the grease had been baked out of it, unlike my links, glad i added them to the platter, tossed the filler patty like a frisbee right in the trash, yuk! hash browns were not potatoes, can’t even describe them. pancakes were chewy, don’t know what dough these used! the really big chicken burger was pretty nast too! patties againg tasted like crap! think purina has been suppling jack with dog food! GROOOOSSSSSS!

  4. SORRY ABOUT THE TYPO IN WORDS, WAS EXCITED & KEYBOARD HAS BEEN STICKING! REMEMBER PICTURES ARE ALWAYS DOCTORED, NEVER TRUST PICTURES OF ANYTHING!

  5. I went into Jacks just to get a cup of coffee, then I seen the breakfast menu, It looked good so I tried it, took it home sat open the lid, by surprise I saw 2 slices of bacon (whole) MaxD. only gives you 1 slice cut in half. what a ripe off from them. anyway I did like it, it was warm. I might try it again, also I like quarter size hot cakes anyway. When looking at your menu, the product is not like the picture, that is a shame. that is what I expect when I buy from a fast food. the proper lettuce, I hate Ice Burg, use the same lettuce as the picture, make the burger look inviting, so I could come back again. I also was going to inter the guest survey, but I could hardly see the No.code Ithink200518121002980 date 12/2/11 Oakdale Ca. #180 .

    1. The Impulsive Buy isn’t a website endorsed or run by anyone from JIB, it’s just a review site. You’ll need to take your store #, code and comments to the prescribed site to make sure they have a chance to see them. Good luck, and I hope JIB listens to you and improves the menu in your area!

  6. I like your review on jumbo platter. I feel the same way with the bacon, so i tend to just get the sausage. I also like how its mini pancake very easy to consume. the only thing different is that I tend to throw in the syrup with my eggs, sausage, pancakes, and harsh brown. Call me crazt, but I never thought breakfast can taste so great with syrup in it. haha I usually get the jumbo platter when I am not in the mood for a burger. My cholesterol isnt so great, so a jumbo platter will make up for it.
