PRIZE DRAWING: Because It’s About Time You Stepped Into a Kmart Again

Updated Kmart logo

Last month, I was a little mean to Kmart, suggesting Kmart stores dream about being Target stores. To be honest, I haven’t stepped into a Kmart in at least two years, so maybe they’ve improved and stores aren’t depressing anymore.

So to make it up to Kmart, The Impulsive Buy will be giving away a $25 Kmart gift card to one lucky reader, forcing him or her to go to Kmart. Although, I guess the winner could also sell the gift card on eBay or give it to a relative for Christmas.

To enter The Impulsive Buy’s Kmart gift card drawing, leave a comment with THIS post. I don’t care what you say in your comment, but it would be nice if you take a few moments to come up with something nice to say about Kmart, even if you don’t mean it. For example, shopping at Kmart brings a joy to my soul that I thought could only be achieved by riding a unicorn up a rainbow.

Please don’t forget to fill out the email field because I’ll be emailing the winner for his or her mailing address. The Impulsive Buy will stop accepting entries on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time. Only one comment allowed per person, and it’s only open to U.S. residents who are at least 18 years old.

For those of you who have a Twitter account, you can get an additional entry by tweeting the following by Wednesday, November 30, 2011 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time:

@theimpulsivebuy Kmart is the greatest store ever and I’ll punch you in the face if you say otherwise. #kmartrules

So just copy, paste, and tweet. Only one tweet per Twitter account.

Good luck!

Fine Print: Kmart is not affiliated with this prize drawing. The Impulsive Buy promises your email address will not be used to send you emails about business opportunities in third world countries. The Impulsive Buy also promises your mailing address will not be used to send you Kmart circulars. Bribes will not be accepted. The Impulsive Buy will not be responsible for lost mail, damaged mail, or you being seen stepping into Kmart.

  1. haha I would love to win this because it would be epic (yup, I still say that word!) to have it posted on twitter and Facebook that I won a kmart giftcard. I can rub it into everyone’s faces. 🙂

  2. Having a $25 gift card would make stepping into a Kmart less depressing.

(Also, I’ll bet the Kmart gift card dreams about being a Target gift card.)

  3. I worked at Kmart in high school. That pretty much scarred me for life, but I’d go back for a $25 gift certificate.

  4. This would definitely inspire me to trek on over to Kmart! I like that they have coupons in their ads.

  5. Oh Kmart. Land of discounted paper towels, last I went. 🙂 I wouldn’t mind going back, though! It’s definitely been a while.

  6. Kmart’s about as low-tier as it gets, but I give them credit for occasionally carrying some hard-to-find cereals and ice creams.

  7. Kmart has these really great men’s tshirts that I buy and wear when it is 98 degrees and 100% humidity. They are all cotton thin. Other than that, that is the only reason I go to Kmart.

  8. Hmm a good thing to say about kmart? Well they’re still in business so there’s a positive.

  9. The Kmart that is the closest to my house recently closed due to flooding after Hurricane Lee. Gimme a gift card so I can help them with their lost business 😉

  10. I actually really like their Route 66 (store brand) blue jeans; they’re some of the best-fitting jeans I’ve had, and a heck of a lot cheaper than department stores.

  11. KMART is the only “department” store left in my grandma’s home town. So.. yay for being there for my grandma!

  12. Kmart used to be the cheapest place to buy cigarettes back in the day when I was an evil smoker!

  13. When I was a kid, the only store in town was Kmart, and we thought the blue light specials were a blast. Now, I walk in and can’t quite figure out how they’re still around. Maybe it’s the Sears stuff?

  14. Poor K-Mart…I have one right by my house. Used to go there all the time when I was younger. I’ll gladly go visit my old friend again.

  15. I still shop at K-Mart because with the “Gamer Rewards” program they have great deals in which if you buy a new game you get a $15-20 coupon for a purchase for a future game. 🙂 Great deals!

  16. Having a $25 gift card to K Mart will let me buy the same lovely food processor my mom has that I’ve only seen available at kmart.com

  17. I am from the Detroit area, where KMart is headquartered, but do not usually shop there. I do know that I enjoyed visiting the KMart in Maui to stock up on beach essentials for our vacation!

  18. Went to Kmart last month and saw one of those super sturdy, heavy duty umbrellas. It was twice as big as me, and so heavy. One of those where if I were in a crowd I’d clear a 10 feet radius around me. And it was rainbow colored. No wind would flip that umbrella out! But I couldn’t justify spending $20 on an umbrella, even if it was awesome. You can help make my dreams come true. Just sayin.

  19. The Kmart in my town has very little selection but I often shop there because it’s a lot closer than the Walmart. Not exactly kudos for Kmart but I would put the gift card to good use.

  20. Me lovey me Kmart. I would USE this card, as I deplore Walmart and only go if I truly can’t get something elsewhere or have taken Xanax. Hey there is a reason there is NOT a PeopleofKmart website. I prefer Kmart but they could improve there selection a bit more.

  21. i keep forgetting about Kmart. It’s behind the Arby’s and I don’t go there either.

We recently had a Super Walmart open up in town. The parking lot where the old and dead plain Walmart used to be often has more vehicles in it than the open Kmart store behind the Arby’s.

  22. I only like KMart because they were one of the few places I could get school supplies and clothes when I was a kid back in the 80’s

  23. Kmart is great because I know at any given time, I can count on being the only customer in the store! 🙂

  24. I love our local KMart – clean and easy to get in and out – right on the way home from work and the prices are right!

  25. Don’t be mean to KMart. So they are not Target, big woo. When Wal-Mart and Target creep you out, there is always a KMart handy, with plenty of parking spaces.

  26. yay! I actually do kinda like Kmart! theres no Target near my current living situation, so it’s the next best thing!
I love it because…they sell stuff WAY cheaper than other stores by me! ex) cereal at one store? 7 dollars. K mart? only 3-4! WOO

  27. Kmart met someone at the bar and asked him what’s his name. He replied “Cool” and Kmart replied, “Stop calling me names.”

  28. I like Kmart! The nearest one is about a 20-25 minute drive though… but I LOVE any chance I get to not spend money at Walmart!

  29. I haven’t been to a Kmart in years! There wasn’t any where I lived, but now that we moved to CO I’m very close to one. Thanks for the giveaway!

  30. The thing I like about Kmart is, despite them having the slowest checkout lines of any store I go to, they make up for it with there’s always humerus clientele to watch while your waiting.

In all seriousness though, they do occasionally have hard to find products.

  31. Love Kmart, where else can you get underwear, a convection oven, furniture and bacon all in one place and one low price? Well I guess Target and Walmart have that too, but Kmart is the OG of retail superstores!

  32. The thing I like best about KMart is the fact that I haven’t gotten shot in the parking lot on my way from the car to the store EVER. And that’s gotta be like, a record for Los Angeles.

  33. The K-Mart I went to as a kid in the 80’s had a full blown cafeteria in the back. G.C. Murphy’s, Kaufmann’s (FU Macy’s), Hill’s, Horne’s, Gimbel’s, Woolworth’s etc were all good places.

The Kaufmann’s in downtown Pittsburgh is like 10 stories tall, and the upper floors have wooden escalators!

  34. I actually love Kmart because going there makes me feel less trashtastically mainstream than going to Walmart. Same prices, no website devoted to the weird people who shop there. Win. (Plus, really cute scarfs this year).

  35. When I collected figures, Kmart always had a great selection. I haven’t been to one in a long while though, I should look into it.

  36. I like K-Mart, although it depends on the store on how much I like them. The one I go to the most often often has nice deals on clothes and toys.

  37. I bought a nice pair of Lee jeans at Kmart a month ago for about $22. I’d sure love another pair.

  38. I worked in a K Cafe when they still had such things (at least in Michigan), in the early 90’s. The baked apples and cookies were good. I only burned myself on the waffle cone maker once. There were breakfast regulars (it was the only place to eat in the mall) who made my life a living K Hell (see also: December weekends).

Kmart is the only department store in the town where I live now, so I have no choice but to return often and have flashbacks every time I see the Icee machine at the front of the store.

  39. That’s funny, I haven’t been in a KMart in years either. I don’t remember anything negative about the store though, it’s just a bit out of the way.

  40. Kmart, you might not be Target but at least you’re not Walmart*

*Statement based on the quality (cleanliness, location, parking lot, helpful employees, ect.) of the stores in my area, your area may vary.

  41. We had a super Kmart in my hometown before Walmart became super. Being able to buy pizza rolls and school supplies at one place was awesome.

Also, we don’t have one in Alaska but I’m visiting home in January and I always make a trip to the extremely rundown Kmart by my house to something.

  42. I don’t expect to win, would be cool though.

    About K’Mart.
You have a ton of commercials on TV. It is just too bad there isn’t a single store within 50 miles of me. Either you like to taunt with your commercials, or you need a better marketting team.

Wait that last part wasn’t nice.

  43. As a poor, recent college graduate, Kmart is starting to look a lot better than it used to…. ; ) But honestly, I have some vaguely fond memories of the place as one of only two major stores in the mountain-town where I used to go every summer.

  44. I like K-mart. They have stuff that Walmart and Target doesnt have. Their candy selection is so much better sometimes. They have snacks you cant hardly find at some places.

  45. Over the course of a couple of years I watched a K-Mart convert into a Sears Essentials and now back to a K-Mart. I am curious to see what has changed.

  46. Something nice? Okay. K-Mart ALWAYS has the item that they advertised in the newspaper for an awesome price in stock and ready for me to purchase when I decide to give K-Mart another chance. Okay, that’s really the opposite of the truth. Sometimes I think they’re just making up some of their sale items, because they never exist when I try to purchase them.

At least it’s nice of K-Mart to be located really close to the Target in my area, so when I don’t find what I need at K-Mart, I’m only a mile away from Target, making my life easier. Thanks K-Mart!

  47. The last time I was in a k-mart they wouldn’t let me carry around a fake dog from a Christmas display. I need to go back and rectify this.

  48. Well, shopping at Kmart is nice in that it means not having to fight the crowds and navigating a full parking lot! There’s one right next to my Target and the differences in crowding is unbelievable!

  49. My first real job was third shift stocker at K-mart. The disruption to my sleep cycle combined with a slight drinking problem, caused me to enter a deep depression. But the discount was nice.

  50. I can’t think of a single instance that I didn’t say, “UGH! I wish I was at Walmart!” while inside a Kmart, which is terribly sad. I mean, Target is the way to go. If you are wishing for Walmart, things are bad. If I had to say something nice about my local Kmart it is that they have a Dino (of Flintstones fame) ride out front. How’s that for retro?

  51. Nearest Kmart is about a half-hour away. I collect shopping bags and don’t have a Kmart one, and god knows how long the chain will be around, so I figure this might be a good time to grab one.

  52. Actually, I do love Kmart. We’re rural, so it’s either Kmart or Walmart for us here. And Kmart has a rewards card that accrues free money. My broke ass likes free money. 🙂

  53. I don’t know the last time I went to a Kmart (the closest one is 40 min away), but this would make me do it! 😀

  54. K-Mart started Martha Stewart’s line of products for the masses, right? So that is a plus. Also, I won some gold jewelry there one time in a drawing.

  55. I still go to Kmart periodically to buy shoes. They have shoe deals unmatched by other stores, I tell you

  56. I was actually in Kmart today. Their sales are pretty good, and I can distract my toddler with the toy aisle before grocery shopping.

  57. My friend swears he was busted for shoplifting there back in the 80’s, and the security guard flashed a badge ans said “Come with me- Kay em aye are tee pee dee”. Sounds like bullshit to me.

  58. I miss the old Kmart next to me. It had a little Cesars that had AMAZING crazy bread.. The standalone Little Cesar’s we have now sucks..

  59. I worked there for 2 years. Awful place, aside from the in-house brands. Less trustworthy workers would often “accidentally” slash a product so we could eat it. Herrs’ were tops.

  60. Well KMart…you got me hooked on Little Caesar’s back in the day, and you you still have Lay-away. So you have that going for you. That was also unintentionally rhymy…

  61. kmart always made “back to school” time slightly more tolerable by providing some awess school supplies, like markers and cool colored pencils that I’d barely use in school.

  62. My mom used to work for American Greetings and had to keep the cards at the locale K-Mart stocked and in order. She took me and my brother to work with her instead of paying for a babysitter. Instead of being boring this actually led to the tow of us pretty much having the run of the store! I have many fond memories of the two of us cutting up in the clothes department, playing hide and seek, spying on customers in the camera room and taking the stone garden animals from the outdoor sections and putting them in sexual positions in through out the store. It’s a wonder mom didn’t get fired!

Anyway, basically I am grateful to K-Mart for putting up with us hellions and keeping mom employed. We had a good time and they must have thought we were cute or something to let us get away our behavior.

  63. I love kmart..I bought the best pack of snaps there! They were so fresh and so clean clean!

  64. I remember when Kmart wasn’t so bad…but that was way before Walmart came to town (we didn’t get a Target around these parts until the late 90’s and Walmart opened in the early 90’s), so e had to get our crap somewhere. I still go from time to time just to check it out.

  65. Ya know that site People Of Walmart? They should really make a People Of Kmart. I was in there the other day and it was like I was in a whole new world. But not the one from Aladdin.

  66. I would totally go to K-Mart with a gift card. I’d only buy things that begin with the letter “K”, just to make it especially interesting. . .

  67. I live in a small, defunct coal-mining town of about 8,000 and the only non-grocery store we have is the ol Big K. Depressed enough to let me win yet?

  68. I love wandering around the Kmart where the train ends and I have 45 minutes to wait for the next bus.

  69. I’ve personally never been to kmart since forever either! Maybe it’s about time I do so 🙂

  70. Kmart was my first and probably favorite job. I havent been to one in forever bc they’re on the wrong side of town..

  71. I actually pass a K-Mart daily (not a fancy Super K-Mart, mind you, just the old-school “Big K”) and it’s definitely no Target, but less scummy than what I remember from my youth. Great deals on some hardware/household type stuff. My sister’s first job was at K-Mart and she loved it!

  72. There isn’t a K-Mart within 50 miles of where I live in Texas. Most of them closed down and left the Texas Market. But I would be happy to peruse their website for giftcard purchasing.

  73. We have a KMart not too far from our house, and the people who work there are actually pretty friendly. The store has worked with our community association for a few events as well.

  74. I haven’t been in a Kmart in EONS and would be glad to have an excuse to rediscover the magic of the blue light special!
