REVIEW: Ben & Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurt (Blueberry Vanilla Graham & Banana Peanut Butter)

Ben & Jerry's Greek Frozen Yogurt (Banana Peanut Butter and Blueberry Vanilla Graham)

Thanks to the inundation of Greek yogurt products over the past couple of years, I don’t remember what else Greeks are known for. When I try to think of something Greek, all that pops into my head is either Yoplait Greek Yogurt, Chobani Greek Yogurt, Stonyfield Farm’s Oikos Greek Yogurt, Dannon Greek Yogurt, Fage Greek Yogurt, Safeway Lucerne Greek Yogurt, Activia Greek Yogurt, and Tina Fey.

Unfortunately, these new Ben & Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurts aren’t helping. Is Julius Caesar Greek? What about Socrates? Damn. I can’t recall. Oh, thank goodness I’m not playing Trivial Pursuit right now. I don’t think I could earn the yellow wedge.

Ben & Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurt comes in four flavors: Blueberry Vanilla Graham, Banana Peanut Butter, Strawberry Shortcake, and Raspberry Fudge Chunk. Oh, there’s a Fifth Beatle, but Vanilla Greek Frozen Yogurt is only available at Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops. Sadly, I was only able to find the Blueberry Vanilla Graham and Banana Peanut Butter.

Ben & Jerry's Greek Frozen Yogurt Banana Peanut Butter

Like a man who walks around in public in nothing but his tighty whiteys, there’s something not quite right about Ben & Jerry’s Banana Peanut Butter Greek Frozen Yogurt. Ben & Jerry’s says their Greek frozen yogurts are “really Greekin’ good,” but this particular flavor is kind of Greekin’ weird.

To be honest, I’ve never had the pleasure of eating a banana with peanut butter, but it sounds yummy and I’m pretty sure Elvis ate more than enough of it for me. However, the combination of banana Greek frozen yogurt with peanut buttery swirls tastes like a not-quite-ripe banana, which I do not have any affinity for. I’ve had many banana splits ruined by not-quite-ripe bananas, so this Greek frozen yogurt’s flavor hits a sore spot. The flavor doesn’t disgust me, but I can’t see myself buying another pint of it.

Ben & Jerry's Greek Frozen Yogurt Blueberry Vanilla Graham

However, I may buy another pint of Ben & Jerry’s Blueberry Vanilla Graham Greek Frozen Yogurt, which combines blueberry and vanilla Greek frozen yogurt with a graham cracker swirl. The blueberry and vanilla Greek frozen yogurt have a pleasant tanginess, but the graham cracker swirl is what makes this Greek frozen yogurt tasty. It’s sweetness helps counterbalance the yogurt’s tanginess. However, I gotta have more graham cracker swirl. I got a fever. And the only prescription is more graham cracker swirl. Although, the graham cracker swirl did make everything a little gritty.

I can’t believe I’m about to type this, but I have to say I’m not sure if Aristotle was Greek and I’m slightly disappointed with these two flavors of Ben & Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurt. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever put “disappointed” and “Ben & Jerry’s” in the same sentence until now. Again, the Blueberry Vanilla Graham is good, but both flavors don’t weaken my willpower and make me want to eat an entire pint in one sitting like Ben & Jerry’s ice cream does.

Rating: 5 out of 10 (Banana Peanut Butter)
Pros: Blueberry Vanilla Graham is good. Doesn’t use milk from cows treated with rBGH. Yogurt cultures. Has fewer calories and fat than Ben & Jerry’s ice creams. Decent source of protein. More cowbell.
Cons: Banana Peanut Butter is Greekin’ weird because it tastes like not-quite-ripe bananas. I gotta have more graham cracker swirls. Has as much sugar as Ben & Jerry’s ice creams. Not as additive as Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

  1. Yeah, I hear you with the ripe bananas. Ever had Mokey Dip, those frozen chocolate dipped actual bananas? Break your teeth off – yikes.

      1. How much more clearly could I stay it! The walls of the banana stand are lined with 200 grand in cash you idiot!

  2. I completely agree with you on the Banana Peanut Butter flavor. It’s one of my favorite combinations, but I couldn’t even finish a small dish of it from the scoop shop. Very sad as I love B&Js and frozen yogurt!
I currently have the Raspberry in my freezer, which is much better.

  3. I also agree about the Banana Peanut Butter yogurt. I thought the weird flavor was just an overly strong yogurt flavor, which I hate, and would thus be in all the different varieties. But it sounds like maybe that’s not the case.

  4. You’re crazy. The peanut banana yogurt is possibly the best ice cream-type desert ever foisted upon the planet. My wife and I took one bite and just stared at each other, speechless. It’s genius.

    1. I was beginning to think I was the only one who loved the Banana Peanut Butter flavor! It is literally the BEST flavor Ben & Jerry’s have ever come out with, Frozen Yogurt or Ice Cream. Understandably it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’ll be damned if it’s not the best ice cream/frozen yogurt flavor in existence. And that’s saying a LOT because I have tried every B&J’s flavor I could find and the amount of flavors I dislike I can count on one hand. I didn’t think so many people would dislike the Banana Peanut Butter, but I guess I can understand that. But it won’t stop me from buying 2 or 3 pints at a time!

  5. This stuff does sound weird – healthy Ben & Jerry’s? I’ll probably skip it and go for the regular unhealthy kinds.

  6. I got a little excited seeing this especially the blueberry vanilla graham cracker one. However for it to be healthy, it has a little bit more calories than most regular ice cream that has the same 1/2 serving size.. But I would like to try anyway..

  7. I have to agree the peanut butter and banana is a little off. I love peanut butter and banana’s but this is tangy, not like a real banana. I’m not sure that I will bother with any other flavor.

  8. I agree on the Blueberry Vanilla Graham flavor. It really wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t like the rest of Ben & Jerry’s flavors. Those, you can eat in one sitting (with the guilt trip afterwards.) This one, I took a taste off the top of the container and had the willpower to scoop out 2 scoops (which is probably the 1/2 cup serving anyway) and put it back in the freezer. It satisfied my sweet tooth, but I’m hoping my sister will finish this pint for me.

  9. This healthy version of ice cream not only tastes incredibly delicious(both flavors mentioned). But it also is the staple in my chiseled 6 pack abs diet and I am eating ice cream on the couch while I have girls texting me wanting to lick my abs everynight. How good can life get?? Thanks Ben And Jerrys!

  10. Julius caeser was a roman dictator. Senates killed him so he wouldn’t be dictator for life. Socrates is a Greek myth. He is punished in the underworld forever. I’m in 7th grade you should know this.

    1. 1. It’s Julius Caesar.

      2. The senators killed him.

      3. Socrates is a Greek philosopher, not a Greek myth. If he was a Greek myth, he wouldn’t exist, but he most certainly did.

      4. It appears we both don’t know things.

  11. The blueberry vanilla graham is my new addiction. I can eat it in one setting. Better than the Oct cream to me.

  12. The banana peanut butter tastes too much like mild banana candy(the gross banana candy that nobody ever wanted to eat in the Runts pack!) with peanut butter. I actually like banana and this was a let down.
The blueberry vanilla graham is DELICIOUS.
The raspeberry fudge chunk is good but nothing special because it tastes just like Perry’s Raspberry chocolate chip ice cream.
The strawberry shortcake just sounds disgusting so I didn’t try it.
These are all available at Wegman’s, that’s where I found ’em.

  13. Add bits of freshly made bacon to the banana peanut butter one. Trust me. I’m the King.

    1. Seriously though, it balances the tang and the sweetness. I Can’t Help Falling in Love with that combo.

  14. I have tried everything but the banana peanut butter, and was greatly looking forward to tasting it, but the stores are always sold out. After checking with the managers, they get it and it lasts for LESS THAN A DAY before they sell out of it. Despite the negative comments, I am still anxious to try it, thanks to my grandmother who used to make me all those PB & banana sandwiches as a child, the combo is incredibly delicious. I have to agree with the grittyness of the blueberry flavor. In fact, I can’t get past it, the creamy texture of the yogurt is forever lost. The chocolate raspberry chunk is also tasty, especially for chocolate lovers. My favorite, hands down, is the strawberry shortcake, zomg! I can’t get enough! The shortbread swirls compliment the flavors and do so without changing the textures. I’m a shortcake fanatic and I look forward to this lovely dessert treat at least once a week.

On another frozen greek yogurt note, for those who are insulin resistant (like I am), or diabetic, and have to watch the protein vs. carb ratio….. you have to have a supply of ADONIA FROZEN GREEK YOGURT by Ciao Bella! Not only does the ratio fall within the nutritional ranges for diabetics, but it is also FAT FREE!! You don’t need to let it sit out on the counter for 20 minutes before you can it, unlike the Healthy Choice, or freezing the tubs purchased out of the dairy case. This is a true life saver for me, as I LOVE ice cream and frozen yogurts. To have one that fits every parameter of “HEALTHY” is monumental! Oh, by the way… it doesn’t taste fat free, is very creamy, and comes in the flavors of: Mango, Blueberry, Raspberry, and Vanilla. In my opinion, the only one to have a noticeable tartness is the vanilla and that is easily remedied by some sugar free chocolate syrup. 😉

  15. Are you serious??? Greeks are known only for their yogurt??? You have to be really ignorant to say something like that(I am not a Greek).
Except of their long history, Greece has one of the best and most famous cuisines in the world. Their food is so tasty and beloved to people. They produce too the greek cheese feta which is one of the most delicious cheeses I have ever tasted and then the drink ouzo what is quite strong but really nice. Greece has too amazing and famous variety of wines due to the nice, warm mediterranean climate. And of course don’t forget to mention their olive oil that is by far the best.
As for the frozen yogurts, I have to agree that the banana and peanut butter combination wasn’t the best but I loved those with the raspberry flavor and the blueberry flavor.
