REVIEW: McDonald’s Chicken & Ranch Premium McWrap

McDonald's Crispy Chicken & Ranch Premium McWrap

I can’t help but feel inadequate when I look at the McDonald’s Chicken & Ranch Premium McWrap. Look at its length. Look at its girth. If you compare it to one of my body parts, the McWrap makes it look pathetic.

I’m talking about my arm wresting arm. If somehow a McDonald’s Chicken & Ranch Premium McWrap came to life and I had to beat it at an arm wrestling match to prevent it from taking over the world, I’m going to lose and we’re going to have to call it Supreme Ruler McDonald’s Chicken & Ranch Premium McWrap.

When Apple’s iPad was first introduced, many people said it was just a big iPod touch or iPhone. And when I first heard about McDonald’s new McWraps, I thought they were just larger McDonald’s Snack Wraps. However, McDonald’s McWraps are much more than larger Snack Wraps.

McDonald's Grilled Chicken & Ranch Premium McWrap

A Chicken & Ranch McWrap can be made with either crispy or grilled chicken. I decided to try both varieties. (To be honest, I really wish McDonald’s would stuff these McWraps with McNuggets.) When the McCrew Member handed me the bag with my McWraps, I was McSurprised by how McHeavy it was. How McHeavy? I believe with a regime that involves several sets of wrist and bicep curls with a bag filled with two McWraps, I could take on and beat an animated McDonald’s Chicken & Ranch Premium McWrap intent on taking over the Earth.

Along with your choice of chicken, the 9-inch McWraps are stuffed with half slices of tomatoes, cucumber slices, shredded lettuce, cheddar jack cheese, spring greens, seasoned rice vinegar, and buttermilk ranch sauce. I’d list the plants that make up the spring greens, but it’s filled with names you’re probably unfamiliar with, so instead I’m just going to tell you it consists of greens from the Asteraceae, Brassicaceae, Amaranthaceae families.

The McWraps come in sleeves that work a lot like convertible pants. But because of my muscle memory from eating a lot of Taco Bell burritos, I took the McWrap out of its sleeve and grabbed it like I was fighting a snake.

McDonald's Crispy Chicken & Ranch Premium McWrap Innards

The crispy version is better tasting than the grilled one, thanks to the chicken’s breading, but I would buy either one again. I haven’t tried the other McWraps yet, so I can’t compare it with them, but these Chicken & Ranch versions are quite tasty. The buttermilk ranch sauce was spread evenly throughout the McWrap, ensuring flavor in every bite (and preventing ingredients from falling out), and the seasoned rice vinegar was ever so slightly noticeable but I think most people won’t realize it’s there.

Another ingredient eaters probably won’t notice is the cheese, which got lost in the buttermilk ranch sauce’s flavor. Since it doesn’t add any flavor, might I recommend asking to leave it out, which will knock off a good amount of fat and around 100 milligrams of sodium.

Thanks to the farmer’s market level of vegetables in each McWrap, its innards were filled with orange, dark green, light green, and dark purple colors. The veggies were also spread evenly within the flour tortilla as if they were placed there by a Subway Sandwich Artist.

While the McDonald’s Chicken & Ranch Premium McWrap makes my forearms look inadequate, it adequately fills my stomach and gratifies my taste buds.

Rating: 8 out of 10 (Grilled)
Pros: Nice flavor. Filling. Crispy is better tasting than grilled. Stuffed with, um, stuff, giving them a nice heft. Nice variety of veggies. They’ve got cucumbers. Dropping in plant family references to make me look smarter than I really am.
Cons: Cheese was unnecessary. Makes my arms look weak. Fast food trying to take over the planet. Awesome source of sodium. A McWrap probably doesn’t contain every green listed under “spring greens.”

*Because I live on a rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, things are a bit pricier here. You’ll probably pay less than I did.

  1. For five bucks those wraps had better damn well be large. We’re getting into the Chipotle burrito price range and everyone knows how inadequate those can make a man feel.

    1. Pricing is for Hawaii and presumably here in Alaska too. Which if Chipotle were to open a place here their prices would probably be close to $10.

    2. there not, would need 2 with fries to feel you ate enough, but that would hit around 15 bucks

    3. I thought the same thing but OH WOW, are they big – and GOOD!! I don’t say that often about Mickey D’s!

  2. Didn’t pay either $3.99 or $4.99. They wanted $4.39 for it here in Wisconsin, before tax. Kind of an odd price. Go figure… Chicken & Ranch… It was OK. Nothing special if you ask me.

  3. i ordered one of these in a hurry. instead of a grilled chicken ranch mcwrap i got a mac [snack] wrap. my disappointment when i got home was immense. $3.99 on the east coast

  4. these are WEAK. i paid $3.99 IMO not even as good as the regular snack wraps, the ones i got had very little chicken, lots of “fancy” lettuce. two of the grilled ranch snack wraps kill one of these.

  5. I tried this exact wrap when they had the two dollar promo and thought it was really good! I would not pay five dollars for one, though.

  6. Pretty much just like it sounds. I don’t want hot lettuce and tomato in my wrap, sorry. Not buying again.

  7. I bought one grill chicken and bacon two days ago here in GA and it was $3. It was delicious. I went back today and ordered two and paid
2 for $4. They were good, only problem was the two I bought today were missing the cheese on both.

  8. I bought three of them here in Rhode Island and they were only a dollar each…Pretty Pretty Pretty Good

  9. I just wanted to know what kind of greens were in it. I had the grilled chicken and bacon mcwrap and it had some sort of tangy orange thing in it. We were passing it around the table and everyone was nibbling on it since it was so different.

And South GA was $3.99 for the premium wrap, but that is the same as a large burger and i couldn’t eat it all. Also, mine was missing the cheese so I just put some on it when I got home.

  10. Brutal, paid 5.69, was barely bigger than the snack rap, had two snack wrap chicken strips in it, 1 piece of bacon and was rolled loose to appear big, sticking with subway and don’t eat the killer mcmuffin sandwiches anymore, again brutal. Gladd I did not buy the combo which would have been over 8 bucks

  11. Louisburg NC loacation
The promotion for the new McWrap was confusing. The nenue board plainly said fries and drink included. I paid the price but only got the wrap. I asked about the fries and drink and the cashier said they were not included. So I purchased a drink separately. Wound up paying $4.50(appx.?) for the wrap and drink. I took one bite of the wrap but did not like what I tasted so I just threw it along with the drink in the trash and went somewhere else to eat. Note: The cashier did a great job trying to explain

  12. I just bought one in oregon for 399. Got the grilled chicken with ranch. So awesome. …. and huge with lots of healthy greens. I highly recommend. .. I really dislike fast food in general. But have a 8 year old that loves Macdonalds. I must say it was awsome..

  13. I hate hate HATE McDonalds, but it’s the only place open late. I literally could not put another cheeseburger from there in my mouth with out getting a bit sick. Same goes for their chemical tasting fries and bland McNuggets. So when I realized they had chicken wraps (I wished they were as good as Wendy’s) I got one. I ordered the wrong one and got this massive chicken burrito type thing that you guys are talking about. I was shocked to find out that it was actually really good. There was a lot of fried chicken in it, I loved the veggies, and the ranch wasn’t over powering. It is now the ONLY thing at McDonald’s I’ll eat. 7/10 and yes I’d get it again and likely will. But I’ll pass on the fries fried in silicon to keep them from clumping. You can taste it and it’s disgusting!

    1. I agree, there is waaaay too much confusion regarding McD’s “chicken wraps”. Last week they handed me two small-ish sized chicken wraps. They were perfect and just enough for my lunch. (did not come with fries or drink and that was fine for me too!) Just now I ordered the exact same thing and, when I opened the bag, it contained one small chicken wrap (which is NOT enough lunch) I went back in and asked “what’s up with this?!” and I was told ” you must have ordered the MEAL last week”. Gee, that’s funny, they didn’t give me a drink or fries so what do they consider to be a “meal”?

  14. 3.49 in the midwest and this ranch wrap is ridiculously delicious. Pretty huge too I’m stuffed after eating one. This is all I get at Mc-D’s anymore. So good, I think it’s the rice wine vinegar. I LOVE that stuff. And yea get it fried going to Mc-D’s for healthy food is like going to a hooker for a hug, fried or get out.
