SPOTTED ON SHELVES – Lay’s Pico de Gallo Potato Chips

Pico de Gallo Lay's Potato Chips

Maybe it’s just me, but Tostitos Pico de Gallo Tortilla Chips make more sense than Lay’s Pico de Gallo Potato Chips. But what do I know. I don’t own a multi-billion dollar snack conglomerate. Here’s Chip Review’s thoughts. (Spotted by James at Jay C Foods.)

If you’re out shopping and see an interesting new or limited edition product on the shelf, snap a picture of it, and send us an email ([email protected]) with where you found it and “Spotted” in the subject line. If you do so, you might see your picture in our next Spotted on Shelves post.

  1. They’re similar in flavor to the Garden Tomato & Basil but a little more intense. Really good.

  2. Thanks for the mention!! We agree, pico de gallo is meant to go with a corn tortilla chip of some sort.

@Chris – you are right, they do taste quite similar to tomato & basil, but that’s not what they are supposed to taste like.

  3. These were good, but not salsa-y at all. With the mention of cilantro I hoped to taste cilantro, and that was completely missing!

  4. We found them disgusting and they tasted of dried tomatoes and overwhelmingly of cilantro. We threw them out.

  5. Guests brought these chips to a sail outing this weekend. No one onboard liked them. I say they tasted just like BBQ chips. I tasted no cilantro. But what I am extremely curious about is this: in the middle of a million $$ contest they bring out a new chip “chosen for production” by an employee?? Because I know I suggested Pic de Gallo as a new flavor as did others. And I would hope my flavor profile is better than this. W/o corn I still believe it has possibilities.

  6. i am a mexican and just tried these chips and im sorry, but i did not finished eating a chip… it tasted nothing like “pico de gallo”. IT WAS A TOTAL FAIL. theyre disgusting

  7. I thought these chips were AMAZING. I’ve only tried them once in a small bag, from a gas station and have not been able to find them since. While pico de gallo makes sense on a tortilla chip, it doesn’t mean that it has to stay on one. I personally hate tortilla chips, or any kind of thick cut chip. I usually never purchase those kinds of chips. Some people of mentioned it doesn’t even taste like pico de gallo – my husband brought up a good point: I don’t care WHAT it’s called, I like the flavor.

PS. We did not think they tasted like BBQ chips at ALL.
