REVIEW: Crest Be Adventurous Mint Chocolate Trek Toothpaste

Crest Be Adventurous Mint Chocolate Trek Toothpaste

Hey, partner! Are you ready for an adventure? Let’s go! Jump on the back of this train! Shhh, we’re stowaways! Avoid the lions! Climb a mountain! Keep hydrated! Crack a whip! Look, our trusty sidekick Short Round is here! (Holy Moly! Hi, it’s me!) Down the waterfall! Oh no, snakes! We hate snakes. We’re at the secret cave! The treasure is behind this rock. Let’s push it! Help us out, Short Round! (Okie!) Whoa! The treasure is … a tube of toothpaste! The treasure is a tube of toothpaste? The treasure is a tube of toothpaste.

Oh hell no. (My teeth clean already! How ‘bout yours?)

This is the “adventure”? (Look! It’s mint chocolate!) Hmmm. All right, Crest Be Adventurous Mint Chocolate Trek. Chocolate toothpaste is maybe a little bit of an adventure if you squint. Let’s check this toothpaste out.

The first question is: Who is this for? The packaging is crafted, muted, and detailed. The colors used are tasteful. Adventurous is one of three in the Crest Be line of toothpastes. The others are Inspired and Dynamic. These aren’t child words. I suppose you don’t want to confuse kids by throwing them into the deep end of mint chocolate toothpaste, lest end up having them cake their teeth with Nutella before bed and thinking that’s hygiene when the babysitter is on watch. Crest Be Adventurous Mint Chocolate Trek is for adults. Adults who know about toothpaste rules and want to deny toothpaste rules. It’s a way to start your day or your night with a kick of fake “rebellion.”

Crest Be Adventurous Mint Chocolate Trek Toothpaste Closeup

It looks like mint chocolate chip ice cream, with a light green base specked with bits of brown. (Tastes like ice cream too!) Oh, Short Round is still here. Yes, it tastes a little bit like it too, at least like the mass produced Baskin-Robbins version of the flavor. Maybe that says more about the state of ice cream than it does this toothpaste. But most of all it smells like it. It smells like what mint chocolate chip ice cream smells like in my memory, like some Willy Wonka monstrosity. Oh, here come the Oompa Loompas. They’re carrying away Short Round. Strange…he’s going willingly. (Bye bye!) Okay, have fun, kid.

It’s not that bad tasting. The toothpaste is a cool mint, less sharp than other mentholated toothpastes. This is probably for the ability to showcase the hint of chocolate, which can be compared to the dulled chocolate taste of an Oreo wafer. Actually, the entire brushing experience can be sort of compared to grinding up a bunch of holiday Oreos and sticking them in your mouth and then spitting them back out.

It does feel a little strange/exciting to smear what tastes like chocolate all over my teeth. The weirdest part is the cognitive dissonance. My instincts say to consume some cookies, but my brain reminds me to eject it, resulting in feeling both teased and unsatisfied. A little bit like cookies ‘n cream methadone. The chocolate taste pairs pretty well with the mint, dissipating quickly, and less than five minutes after brushing, the mouth feels like it was brushed with any ol’ mint toothpaste.

It costs almost six bucks for a smallish tube, which is not a lot if you consider it an “adventure” as Crest does. (I do not!) Short Round is back! What’s up, dude? (I stab orange boy and he just lay there. I cut green hair off and make wig!) Oh, you did. We’ll have to dump that body later. Did you try the toothpaste, Short Round? (Oh yeah!) What did you think? (Taste okay but seems silly. You want chocolate, eat chocolate. Don’t be stupid. Novelty is novelty!)

Sounds about right. (Real “adventure.” Yeah right, Crest.) Haha. (You want to explore unknown? Go explore true unknown. Death!) Oh, boy. I think I’m off board on that one. (Why? We all going to die. Accept it. Sweet release!) Okay. Well, that’s all for us. And for the record Crest Be Adventurous Mint Chocolate Trek Toothpaste is better than death. (That opinion!)

Item: Crest Be Adventurous Mint Chocolate Trek Toothpaste

Pros: Pretty smooth, balanced flavoring. Is reminiscent of Oreo cookies. Smearing chocolate on your teeth without guilt.

  1. There was a line of Japanese toothpastes called Breathe Palette, wee little 25-mL tubes that came in 31 flavours (scents, actually: they didn’t taste much like anything). I think they’re discontinued now, but I bought ten when I was in Japan in 2012: Tropical Pineapple, Monkey Banana, Rose, Caramel, Espresso, Cafe au Lait, Blueberry, Darjeeling Tea, Honey, and Cola. And those weren’t even the weirdest: you could also get Fresh Yogurt, Pumpkin Pudding, Bitter Chocolate, and Curry. Makes chocolate-mint toothpaste seem kind of tame in comparison, although I will definitely be buying this when I see it.

  2. Who’d have guessed that the first MST3k Invention Exchange to become a reality would be one from the Mads?

  3. I can understand the cognitive dissonance. I have the opposite problem with bubble gum flavored food. Just doesn’t seem right to swallow it.

  4. My 11-year-old really wanted this so I bought it and it isn’t bad. I can even say that I am enjoying using it. It reminds me of a sugar free chocolate flavor gum that was around a few years back. And my daughter loves it! A great way to encourage brushing.

  5. This toothpaste is sooo nice, especially loving the vanilla flavour and also the choc flavour. Takes the boredom out of brushing. I’m guessing Crest have spent a lot getting this flavour exactly right.

    A W S O M E

  6. I don’t know. I used it a few times and afterwards it feels like my mouth is full of glass and its painful… Maybe its an allergic reaction, but the taste isn’t worth the pain.
    Did anyone else experience this?

    1. I had the same problem! When I was done brushing, I noticed that I had several painful raised taste buds that weren’t like that before. The taste is great though, so I’m torn.

    2. I thought my teeth had suddenly become razor blades or something… it hurt to bad to run my tongue against my teeth.. I rinsed my mouth with cold water and my daughter’s Barbie mouth wash and it went away but OW

    3. I had the exact same thing. my gums are super sore and im not sure what it is. How long did you have it?

    4. Yes, pain under my tongue after using this paste. My kids wanted it but after one try refused to use it again. The price tag is making me try to use it but the weird fleeting pain is concerning.

    5. I love the flavour of this toothpaste, but same thing. The first time I used it, part way through brushing it felt like there were tiny glass shards inside my mouth, right down where the gums meet the insides of the lips. I thought it might just be a fluke so tried it again, and exact same thing happened. I don’t know if it’s an allergic thing as it went away after rinsing, and I’ve had other allergic reactions that caused peeling in my mouth and this hasn’t. (I’ve only used it twice as I’m really put off by the whole discomfort part.) It’s a cruel tease, because it really is an awesome flavour, but got knows what they put in it to make it have that effect on this many people.

    6. I got the same feeling as well. I couldn’t rinse my mouth fast enough. What ingredient would cause that reaction??

    7. I agree! When I’m done brushing with this toothpaste it feels as those I’ve just brushed my gums with shards of glass! Very painful!

  7. They have this toothpaste at Walgreens on clearance, there is also a coupon for 75 cents off…
    I love it!

  8. I tried the LimeMint! loved the taste and fel so fresh, but had a burning in back of the tongue. After three uses I had sores and blisters on my tongue and had no taste buds. It has taken a week to heal. I figured out it was the toothpaste. Stopped using it.

  9. Love it ! Chcolate mint, tastes like Andes mints. Where was this 30 years ago ?

  10. Same thing with my tongue. I thought I was having an allergic reaction. The only ingredient that is different than their other flavors is polyethylene. It is weird so many people have had this problems. After one use I cannot taste as well and have raised bumps on my tongue now that the burning has stopped.

  11. Intial taste was great but than after done brushing had very flat taste in mouth and felt like glass on gums..weird.

  12. I fell in love with this toothpaste. So did my son. It is indeed like brushing your teeth with junior mints or andes de mints. It is so awesome! However, the toothpaste quickly disapeared. My son and I went looking for a reason. He found one. I should have made note of the site but didn’t think to. It was about how many toothpastes in the Crest line, including our fav, has been discontinued due to the little specs within it. They are not good and are getting imbedded within our gums. Crest has been around forever, I am sure they did not do this to harm anyone. However, I am hoping that they come back with this toothpaste and take the beady things out that are the problem. I had finally came to a point of not getting grief from my son about brushing his teeth. I do agree that it was a bit pricey. I always watched for coupons with this.

  13. My son, now 19, has a real disdain for mint. These toothpastes, all 4 flavors were a very mild mind and he would use them without gagging. Wish they were still around. Loved the vanilla myself.
