SPOTTED ON SHELVES – 8/8/2014

Here are some interesting new and limited edition products found on store shelves by us and your fellow readers. If you’ve tried any of the products, share your thoughts about them in the comments.

Stouffer's Morning Classics

I’m disappointed Stouffer’s Morning Classics did not include breakfast mac & cheese or breakfast lasagna. (Spotted by Heather at Schnucks.)

Nature Valley Coconut Crunchy Granola Bars

Yawn. Another granola bar flavor. It now feels as if they’ve come up with every possible granola bar flavor. (Spotted by Aaron W. at Target.)

Arbor Mist Arborita

Lime Margarita and Strawberry Margarita Arborita? Look at what you’ve done Bud Light Lime! (Spotted by Lindsay at Family Fare.)

Blue Hill Vegetable Yogurt 1

Blue Hill Vegetable Yogurt 2

After doing some research, I learned these have been around since late last year. Usually, I wouldn’t post a product that’s been around for so long, but these vegetable yogurts are fascinating. Did any of you try them? (Spotted by Erin at Target.)

  1. I just bought the Coconut Nature Valley granola bars this week and love them! They taste exactly like coconut macaroons!

  2. the Beat yogurt was absolutely appalling. I eat yogurt every day and pretty much can tolerate eating anything.. but this was too terrible

  3. Breakfast mac ‘n’ cheese would have bacon in it! Breakfast lasagna… somebody needs to invent this. Maybe I will. It will give meaning to my life.

    1. I think the only issue you’d have is what would you use for the lasagna noodles? I can’t see using actual lasagna noodles with eggs and such….toast would be the obvious breakfast connection but it would get soggy

      1. You could use tortillas and make it a southwestern breakfast lasagna, a la huevos rancheros.

      2. Use sheets of fried egg for the noodles (like an unrolled omlette), then build it like a regular lasagne.

Another option, make a southern sausage gravy, make it using lasagna noodles, so that it resembles a white lasagne.

A third option, make the white sausage gravy and a ragu (maybe vegetable with lots of zucchini and mushrooms), then make it like you would a standard lasagna, adding slightly undercooked scrambled eggs in the center (so they cook all the way without overcooking, but are still scrambled). This one might be my favorite idea.

    2. I used to routinely heat up a can of Chef Boyardee lasagna or ravioli for breakfast. My college friends got their fun asking me what I had for breakfast. If I was in a hurry, though, it would be a peanut butter and pickle sandwich. I still eat real food for breakfast rather than breakfast food. Cereal is for late night (dry, of course).

  4. Speaking of Bud Light Lime… Bud now has Apple-Rita. Just in time for back-to-school, I guess.

    1. Can’t for Pumpkin-Rita. Every company has to release some sort of pumpkin flavored nonsense at some point.

  5. I tried the sweet potato and butternut squash yogurts. Both were too salty for me at first but were actually quite tasty once I added raisins or maple syrup (the package actually recommended these additions).

  6. Years ago, in Italy, I saw packaged yogurts in savory vegetable flavors- dill, scallion, basil, tomato, pea and zucchini are ones I recall but there were several more. I adored them and predicted this would be the next big thing in America. I can not wait for those yogurts to have national exposure so I can try them.

  7. $2.99for a single 6 oz. yog? Who in their right mind would buy such an overpriced absurdity?
