REVIEW: Little Caesars Soft Pretzel Crust Pepperoni Pizza

Little Caesars Soft Pretzel Crust Pepperoni Pizza

Little Caesars’ Soft Pretzel Crust Pepperoni Pizza is a pepperoni pizza with a soft pretzel crust. It’s that simple.

The meeting at Little Caesars for this pizza had one visual aid. It was a photo of a soft pretzel and a plus sign and then a photo of a pepperoni pizza and then an equals sign, and then a soft pretzel pizza.

Q: “But, Marshall, do you think we need to somehow optimize the flavors to each other?”

A: “Larry, do you or do you not want to go eat lunch?”

The meeting was six minutes long and they definitely did not eat Little Caesars for their meal.

Eating a slice of this pizza is like rummaging through boardwalk garbage. It’s a straight up soft pretzel stretched out into pizza form and had pepperoni and cheese put on it. It’s what the pawn seagulls probably bring to the queen seagull. Pretty sure Templeton from Charlotte’s Web has a slice of one of these things during his smorgasbord. I wouldn’t describe the pizza as “terrific” and probably not “humble,” but it absolutely had “some pig” in it.

Yo, Little Caesars, have you ever tried your own Hot-N-Ready pizzas? Thems salty. So what did you do? You added a pretzel bread, which is saltier, and then on top of that you sprinkled that rock salt that clears New England sidewalks in the winter.

After the first few bites, I had a salt wince duck face like it was selfie time. The pepperoni was not bad. But in the context of the entire pie, it was a little much having meat discs of sodium to surf on the waves of high blood pressure. Quiz: “I’m really looking forward to more Salt.” Is that a quote from me eating this pizza or Kurt Wimmer, writer of the Angelina Jolie film Salt? Find the answer hidden in this review somewhere! (It’s Kurt Wimmer)

Of course, our taste buds adapt to change, but it was disconcerting when a couple slices in I started to get used to it. Could I ever eat anything without salt again? What if this was my new normal? I looked up from my thoughts and realized I had eaten the entire pie.

I spent weeks wandering the street as a salt junkie until I went through the twelve step salt program. I’m now a salt-free, productive member of society but every once in a while when I’m at a mid-low caliber restaurant, the shaker with the white rocks calls my name. I ignore her pleas but she knows one day I’ll crumble. She knows.

Moreover, Lil’ Caesar, I like the way you run your store. I was in and out in about four minutes and there were two people in front of me in line. Handed over payment and received my product. Someone get the guy who thought that system up to help out with hospital emergency room triage. In and out. In and out. Easy. Everybody leaving the ER has a slice of pizza in their hand. Beautiful.

Since LiCa did such a good job with replicating a pretzel for the bread, there are a couple things to consider here. First is the texture. The soft pretzel bread was very similar to what we all know as soft pretzel bread, but the question is: Do we want that chewy, chewy texture for pizza? The answer for me is that it’s fine, but ultimately I like a crispy exterior and a chewy interior. It works for the novelty, but I don’t want it for my every day pizza.

Second is the cheese. There is some “real” cheese sprinkled on top but I noticed a cheddar cheese sauce that is also present, more the consistency of a thick nacho cheese. This was a cheese that tasted and felt like a dipping sauce that you might stick a soft pretzel into. It had a bit of zest and all the smoothness of Cheez Wiz. Again, fine for the novelty, but the more I think about it, it’s kind of gross. Like kissing!

It’s all a bit of an unbalanced affair and I’m not sure my hypertension can take another one, but the Soft Pretzel Crust Pizza is an interesting novelty, and a cheap one at that. If you’re ever pressed for time like those executives who thought up this pizza, and you really, really need to eat a soft pretzel and a pizza at once, the Little C got your back. Pizza pizza? Salty salty.

  1. Thank you for mentioning the nacho cheese type sauce on the pizza. Everybody seems to forget to mention it. When I tried the pizza, I immediately thought why didn’t people say their was a nacho cheese sauce on here? True story.

I really liked it. I didn’t think it was too salty. But to each their own. Everybody mentions the saltiness of it, Made me think it tasted like a salt lick. I think I would get this pizza again just one time.

  2. I like this pizza better than their original pizza and am a little surprised at your rating. I have had saltier versions (my family has purchased it a couple times) and to me the crust tastes like a soft pretzel. It is pretty flavorful, eating more than two pieces would be excessive IMO lol…

  3. I usually don’t like Little Caesars pizza but was curious about this one, even though I was sure I wouldn’t like it. I was surprised to find that I did like it, a lot. It IS salty, but I love salty foods.

  4. Shockingly to some, I’d never had Little Caesar’s before but when my friend and I saw this new pretzel pizza, we just had to try it. I’m pretty obsessed with pretzel buns and rolls, etc, which are popular with burger places. It was just… okay. I thought the crust seemed really greasy and almost more like a fried soft pretzel than regular pretzel texture. The toppings were so so. I liked the idea of a cheese sauce instead of red sauce, but the pizza just failed to deliver for me. And I agree about it being so salty. To be honest, when I get soft pretzels, I often brush the salt off because it’s too much for me. We also had a dipping cup of the nacho cheese sauce and I thought it was disgusting.. it just tasted so weird. But for comparison, my fav cheese sauce dip for fast food pizza is Papa John’s.

  5. We had read descriptions of it being a “salt explosion” or like taking a gulp of ocean water but we didn’t find it any more salty than regular pizza is. Or Chinese food for that matter. I wouldn’t say it was delicious but it was decent, mainly for the price. I ate most of the crust, which I made a dip for, while my husband ate most of the pizza portion. I think it’s something we could live with eating once or twice a year.

  6. Entertaining review. Funny how even though you got the pizza for free and weren’t exactly thrilled with it, within a few minutes you had “looked up from (your) thoughts and realized (you) had eaten the entire pie.” Couldn’t have been that horrible.

  7. Ya. This is even worse than the usual disgusting cheap kids party cheap pizza they usually sell that no adult would ever serve to another adult. I would never buy this again, or recommend this to anyone, even for a kids party, let alone any other LC product. Even the cheese bread was disgusting!

  8. Great review. I actually really like it and buy two jalapeno cheese dipping sauces to dip the crust in. I would agree it is really salty and would probably have serious health issues if I eat too much of it.

    1. I have no issues with the pizza, I love it!! But we all have different taste, it taste great to me but to someone else it may taste nasty.

  9. Worst pizza ever. False advertisement about crust. It was the same crust but with salt on it. Threw mine in the trash after two bites when I got home. I call it fat salty pizza. Would never buy again.

  10. Had the pretzel pizza and it was horrible! Nothing like what the commercial makes it look and sound like! Bland, very little cheese, and the crust didn’t even taste like a pretzel! Not worth your time or money!

  11. TOO MUCH SALT!!!

If you like extreme salty food then go and drink sea water with this pizza. ewwww

  12. I lovvveeddd this pizza. Haha. Everything about it. Especially the nacho cheese sauce. The saltiness makes you slow down and really taste all the flavours. Not something you wanna eat a lot of in one sitting though….. If Ya got leftovers and microwave it. The crust turns into the toughest thing you’ve ever eaten haha. Overall my fav pizza!

  13. What part of the crust was pretzel-related? The crust I had tasted, and looked like, a regular $5 LC pizza crust with giant rocks of salt on it. There was nothing “pretzel” about it. And the salt wasn’t isolated to the outside rim.. it somehow made it all over the pizza. It was so sickening & disgusting. This pizza went in the trash.

  14. The pretzel pizza I bought was disappointing. It looked nothing like the commercials. It looked like regular white crust with a cup of salt piled on top. Oh and the bread that was supposedly pretzel was deflated and appeared soggy. Sad sad sad. Could have just my order but it was a let down.

  15. Do not buy this pizza. The pictures make it look like a normal pizza with pretzel crust. The pizza has nacho sauce all over it. Never thrown a pizza away in my life till today.

  16. I agree with most of the reviewers: Don’t buy Pretzel Pizza!! It is more then discussing!!!

I like soft pretzels and pizza so I wanted to try one of your Pretzel Pizza’s. Bad mistake!
I went to the pizza store in Point Place, Ohio, nest to Krogers on 2-16-19. It smelt good and went down from there. When I got home and looked at it, it was totally unappealing. The crust was flat and hard and two shades of brown. The pepperoni was dried out and very greasy. The crust was very hard and hard to seperate. The cheese just looked bad and came off in chunks not stringy. I tried to eat two pieces but couldn’t. I made a cheese sandwich for supper. I threw one piece out for the opussum that lives under my barn and it is still there and they will eat anything.

When I finished as was throwing out the box I noted that it was soaked through with grease. I even had to clean my counter!

Me: I’m 77 years old and have been around the world 10.5 times and you now have the number one WORST PIZZA on the face of the earth. I thought that Asian pizza was bad but you far surpass them. I’ve had pizza in so many places it would be hard to just list.

Just stop selling Pretzel Pizza it is just PP!!!!!

  17. The …wayy to much salt is not an issue because one does not like the huge amount of salt on this pizza …
how ever …that is way more salt than one should eat …that is if we wish to stay healthy .
Believe me …foods like this are the reason why a lot of people end up having a lot of serious health issues .
So because of that …after buying this pizza for the first time today …i will stay away from it in the future .

  18. I consider myself someone who enjoys salty things. Fries, crackers, soft pretzels, etc. I don’t mind the gimmick and was looking forward to trying the cheese sauce and the pretzel crust. It delivered on the pretzel-tasting crust. However, there was soooo much salt on the entire pizza, salt was all I could taste. I made it through one piece and was sure I was going to die of hypertension. So much salt that EVERY bite was crunchy. Perhaps this particular pizza had been made by a bitter employee who was out for murder. I will never again put myself at risk with salt as the weapon. The pizza was basically inedible.
