  1. Sounds like a concoction Jack In The Box would make. Four times the heat? I imagine it’ll be a fourth hotter than your average spicy fast food.

    1. They already do actually, the hellapeno burger is part of the munchie meal line up and quite delicious. Guilty pleasure!!

  2. Sodium is one of those things that everyone “knows” is unhealthy… kind of like saturated fat.

The government has been warning us about it for decades and has spent a massive amount of resources warning us about the “dangers” of it.

The reason they do so, is that sodium is believed to increase blood pressure, a common risk factor for heart disease and stroke.

These are the two most common sources of death in middle- and high income countries.

The major health organizations recommend that we cut back on sodium:

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA): 2300 mg
American Heart Association (AHA): 1500 mg
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND): 1500 to 2300 mg
American Diabetes Association (ADA): 1500 to 2300 mg

    1. I thought “holy moly” when I saw the sodium. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but their website is showing less sodium, I think this is an error.

      1. The Hardee’s website says the following:

A Thickburger El Diablo with a 1/4 lb patty has 2800 milligrams of sodium
A Thickburger El Diablo with a 1/3 lb patty has 3190 milligrams of sodium
A Thickburger El Diablo with a 1/2 lb patty has 3830 milligrams of sodium

The Carl’s Jr. website says the following:

A Thickburger El Diablo with a 1/3 lb patty has 2440 milligrams of sodium
A Thickburger El Diablo with a 1/2 lb patty has 2630 milligrams of sodium

I’ve made changes to the post to reflect the different numbers.

        1. Why not just call it a “Heart attack”? Unfortunately, people would still buy it!?!

    2. While you’re busy worrying about how long you’re going to live, if you consume too much sodium, why not try some living? Put down the calculator, and try something wild and crazy!

I’m not saying eat one of these every day…..but once in a while isn’t going to kill you.

    3. Funny they just released a report this year saying there in so decernable link between sodium and blood pressure… but thanks for the “health update” Captain Medical Journal

Now can somebody tell Hardee’s we need the Diablo back

  3. It’s not bad, and it’s definitely spicy, but you actually forget there’s a burger there. Just eat a jalapeno popper filed with pepper jack. Basically all the flavor in it.

  4. They put all they’re effort into making a spicy burger and forgot to make it taste good too. Still loves me some Hardees though

  5. Ok, I went crazy today and thought I’d try this. It’s not bad…I took the “bacon” off since it was too smoky and took away from the burger. Half way through, the sogginess really started to take over. It was a real turnoff for me. Overall, it was spicy, but not like a four alarm fire.

  6. THIS BURGER IS 10 OUT OF 10 !!!! MY NEW FAV.

    ITS REALY SPICY AS WELL!!

I WOULD COMPAIR THE LEVEL OF SPICYNESS TO THE HOT WINGS FROM PIZZA HUT THIER HOTEST FLAVOR

I FINISHED EATING MY BURGER AT 4:40 AND IT IS NOW 4:57 AND I CAN STILL FEEL THE SPICE IN MY MOUTH

OVERALL GREAT BURGER AND GREAT SPICE !!

  7. I tried it from Carl’s today. Absolutely deliscious.

Remember, your sense of taste is inhibited if you are sensitive to spicy food. Once you’re used to it though you’re sense of taste will improve.

I got the 1/2 lb patty.

It’s messy, and full of flavor. I can taste the patty, the bacon, the jalapeño. The cheeses and sauces tend to mesh together with the occasional bit of crunchy popper breading.

The heat comes on quick and sticks, but peaks if you keep eating. It burned just a little but it actually had me working up a sweat.

For a fast food burger I give it 10/10. I’d expect this kind of burger from a high end BBQ joint with twice the price tag.

  8. I tried the burger and am sorry to inform but this burger did not live up to my expectations. Though tasty, was not as spicy as i had imagined it to be. In my opinion it didn’t even live up to its rating of 36,000 SHU as stated on the back of the cup.

  9. I bought a 1/3 lb Thickburger El Diablo burger at Hardees yesterday. Absolutely marvelous! The jalepeno poppers were especially great. The poppers were cooked enough to crisp the breading, but not so much to flatten the jalepeno flavor. Great. Just perfectly spicy hot. I loved it. I have a new place to eat lunch!

  10. My son and I had one yesterday. The warnings are all bogus.
It was slightly hotter than mild jalapeno Tabasco hot sauce. Much less than a fresh green jalapeno off the bush.

We expected to be sweating and breathing hard while making faces and laughing at each other.
The best part was the TASTE of the jalapeno poppers even though they were way overdone to the point of being hard to chew. The burger was, well, tasteless, even at 1/2 pound it had no charbroiled character and no natural fat taste enhancement. The only time the meat presented a flavor was when it had nothing on it.

The flavor was also destroyed by the use of paper thin bacon that totally detracted from the burger. The jalapenos and habanero hot sauce was all heaped dead center of the bun on the bottom so it had to be disassembled and rebuilt pushing the flavor and sauce to the edges of the bun. The Pepper Jack cheese though visible was tasteless. I did not notice it’s flavor presence even though I could see it.

Mind you for me and my son this was supposed to be a challenge, it ended up as an extreme disappointment.

All in all while some of the flavor of the peppers were good the burger itself was a huge let down.

On a scale of 1 to 10 we rate it a 3. As we discussed if we would eat it again we decided we would choose a different restaurant assuming that it just may be the way it was prepared.

36,000 Scoville Units seemed promised our taste buds give it a 1,500 rating. The drink cup provided with a warning in small print states “These facts may or may not be true.” Uh pardon me but a fact is a fact and is always true. What we witnessed was bullshit hype and resounding disappointment.

    1. And the commercial image is nothing like the purchased product in size, shape or dimension.
The advertisement shows a large 4 inch thick burger adorned with visible jalapenos and visible poppers. Only the barest edge of a popper was visible, no jalapenos were visible (heaped in the center of the bun) and the thickness was just at 2 inches. I have had bigger whoppers.
The image on the cup shows thick bacon and not the paper thin tripe we received.
I can only guess as to how many are on the image 3 can be seen on one side of the bun giving the impression there would be more. There were only 3 on the actual sandwich.
      False advertising!

  11. Tried it. It was o.k. but definitely not nearly as spicy as u would think it would be.

  12. I was driving to hardys and was going to get the el diablo but i dident see it that was the best fast food burger ive ever had can someone tell me what happend to it and if it will come back
