FAST FOOD NEWS: KFC Chicken & Rice Bowls

KFC Chicken Rice Bowls

When it came to KFC bowls, you were guaranteed the KFC trifecta of mashed potatoes, gravy, and, of course, fried chicken. But KFC’s new Chicken & Rice Bowls have broken away from that.

KFC’s Chicken & Rice Bowls are available in two varieties. Sweet n’ Spicy BBQ features hand pulled honey BBQ chicken, cheese, green onions, and rice. Zesty Tex Mex has crispy chicken, pico de gallo, cheese, green onions, and rice. The Chicken & Rice Bowls are also available as KFC’s $5 Fill Ups which include a chocolate chip cookie and medium beverage.

KFC’s Chicken & Rice Bowls look healthier than anything else KFC has offered in a bowl before, but are they? I can’t prove anything since there’s no nutritional info on the KFC website.

If you’ve tried either one, let us know what you think of it in the comments.

  1. Hopefully the rice is seasoned somehow, similar to Taco Bell’s latin-rice.

  2. i doubt they’re healthy. i’m sure they are filled with an overwhelming amount of rice. also, why are they both spicy?! i don’t get it. i feel like that limits their appeal to many consumers.

    1. I agree, I ordered the BBQ one last night, and I couldn’t eat it, it was covered with a very spicy cheese sauce that had my mouth burning for hours.

  3. I’d estimate that they have about a cup of white rice, and I was pleasantly surprised that the sauce was a bit spicer than expected. If you’re in some sort of position where you HAVE to eat at KFC I would guess it’s not too terrible compared to the regular famous bowl. They make it in back, so you can also ask for them to skip the cheese and add more of the pico de gallo but there’s still fried chicken in it.

  4. just had the BBQ one and I found it to be quite delicious! Yes very familiar to a Taco Bell style menu item. It did not look very good when I opened it up, & I was worried at first. But when I took a bite I found myself craving the next bite, as every blend of rice, barbecue, green onion, and sauce, on the fork was a delicious flavor. I literally just now finished my bowl, and was looking up calorie information. There is No burning sensation after eating the bowl. Its not like it’s even as hot as putting hot sauce on a Taco. that’s funny the article mentions anything about the bowl looking healthy at all. I can’t say thats anything that ever entered my mind. this thing does not look healthy. This thing does not look like a real food at all. Because it’s not. I imagine it has around 800 calories. also yes it was smaller than I thought it would be. But I was fine with that. The ratio between all the ingredients was perfect. I thought it was going to be a bunch of bland rice.

  5. I tried the Spicy BBQ one yesterday and LOVED it! Yes, it was spicy, but very good taste-wise. 🙂
