QUICK ENERGY DRINK REVIEW: Rockstar Pure Zero Watermelon Energy Drink

Rockstar Pure Zero Watermelon Energy Drink

Rockstar’s Pure Zero Watermelon Energy Drink has 240 milligrams of caffeine, so this review will have 240 words.

When I think of large fruits with lots of seeds that are popular this time of year, I think of pumpkin. But it appears Rockstar Energy thinks of watermelon. Of course, a pumpkin-flavored energy drink sounds gross, so I think Rockstar picked the right fruit for their new energy drink.

The Pure Zero line gets its name because it has zero calories and sugar. It also has zero fat, zero protein, and lots of zeroes in the 100 percent values of B vitamins it has. And, of course, there’s the zero in the 240 milligrams of caffeine it has (play Motley Crue’s “Jumpstart My Heart” intro here).

As for its flavor, imagine a watermelon slice that’s not quite ripe. Then imagine taking a bite from that slice from the side and getting a bit too much of the melon’s white part. Now imagine an artificial and candified version of that flavor and you’ll get an idea of what this energy drink tastes like. There are also moments when it has an artificial sour apple flavor.

I know my description doesn’t make it sound that good, and I didn’t care for the first few sips, but its flavor grew on me. Maybe my tastebuds are weird. Or maybe it’s the huge jolt of caffeine making me type this, but I enjoyed its flavor.

  1. I love this drink. I think it tastes like a candy version of watermelon. It’s a lot better than Amp’s watermelon drink, which tastes over ripe and even slightly rotten sometimes.

  2. This drink is amazing! There is no gross aftertaste, and I actually like the flavor. There is kind of a tang, but it adds to the flavor.

  3. This is my new favorite energy drink. It has been nearly impossible to find a low carb drink that I could remotely tolerate… but now I found this…and I LOVE it! It’s like eating candy.

  4. Best energy drink so far – it has made all other energy drinks taste watered-down though, so be aware!

  5. I tried it for the first time this morning & initially thought something was wrong with my drink. To me, it tasted & smelled rancid (for lack of a better word). It just seemed off & I didn’t dare (neither did I want to) finish it. I dumped about 90% of it down the drain. I guess your description matches what I tasted, so if that’s the case, I think the stuff is absolutely disgusting; certainly not the way I ever want to wake up.

    1. I have had a few of these watermelon zeros and I got one the other day that tasted rotten/fermented. I’m wondering if it’s the equivalent to skunky beer. It got warmed up and cooled off to many times. The others tasted fine but I prefer the fruit punch zero but will settle for these when the store is out of the fruit punch.

  6. I have has this flavor before and loved it. But the one I just bought tastes rancid and gross like you described. Is there a recall or a bad batch out?
