FAST FOOD NEWS: Checkers-Rally’s Steakzilla

Checkers Rally s Steakzilla

King Steakong. Steakthra. Steaktimus Prime. Steakatron.

Nope. Couldn’t come up with a better name than Steakzilla, another steak-topped burger introduced by Checkers and Rally’s at the same time as the Buttery Steak Burger.

The Steakzilla has two large 100 percent beef patties topped with seasoned shaved steak, Swiss cheese, crispy onion tanglers (my autocorrect hates this word), and mayonnaise on a toasted Kaiser bun. The burger is available for a limited time.

The menu items has 810 calories, 52 grams of fat, 23 grams of saturated fat, 2 grams of trans fat, 140 milligrams of cholesterol, 2000 milligrams of sodium, 40 grams of carbohydrates, 9 grams of sugar, 1 gram of fiber, and 46 grams of protein.

  1. I tried the Steakzilla today with high hopes. I do love meat and there was LOTS of meat. Two large butter-flavored hamburger patties plus a good amount of delisliced beef. Two slices of Swiss (?) cheese and lots of onion tangles on top, plus mayo. Sounded really delish.
UNFORTUNATELY, it was dry and single-note in flavor. The Philly styled steak was so dry it was crumbled all around the sandwich. The patties were very butter “Flavored” but dry. The cheese didn’t add to much because its flavor was overwhelmed by the beef. Ditto for the mayo. The mayonnaise/cheese tried to make it juicy. The kaiser roll was great! If you want about half a pound of meat and not much other, this is your burger.
HOW TO RESCUE: Add a sauce! 1] A Carolina style vinegar-based barbecue would be awesome. This would relieve the heavy meatiness and give a bright complimentary flavor note. 2] Try a Spanish red sauce with roasted red peppers, onions and paprika. 3] an Italian marinara style would compliment the beef…or you can just add lots of ketchup!
