FAST FOOD NEWS: McDonald’s Mac Trio

McDonald s Mac Trio

Out of the billions of burgers McDonald’s has sold over the years, many of them have been the classic Big Mac. And almost 30,000 of those Big Macs have been sold to Don Gorske. But all these years he’s never had to decide which Big Mac he should eat because there was just one.

But with McDonald’s new Mac Trio, he now has options. Along with the original Big Mac, the fast food chain is also offering for a limited time the Grand Mac and Mac Jr.

The Grand Mac features 1/3 lb of 100 percent real beef in two patties, two slices of American cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, and special sauce on a larger sesame seed bun. The Mac Jr has just one of those beef patties that’s in the Grand Mac, a slice of American cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, and special sauce on the same sesame seed bun as the Big Mac.

The Mac Jr has 460 calories, 27 grams of fat, 9 grams of saturated fat, 1 gram of trans fat, 70 milligrams of cholesterol, 830 milligrams of sodium, 36 grams of carbohydrates, 7 grams of sugar, 3 grams of fiber, and 21 grams of protein.

The Grand Mac has 860 calories, 52 grams of fat, 18 grams of saturated fat, 2 grams of trans fat, 140 milligrams of cholesterol, 1470 milligrams of sodium, 62 grams of carbohydrates, 13 grams of sugar, 5 grams of fiber, 41 grams of protein.

And to compare, here are the nutrition facts for the original Big Mac has 540 calories, 28 grams of fat, 10 grams of saturated fat, 1 gram of trans fat, 80 milligrams of cholesterol, 950 milligrams of sodium, 46 grams of carbohydrates, 9 grams of sugar, 3 grams of fiber, and 25 grams of protein.

  1. As a calorie and macro counter, how can the original have only 1g more fat, and 4g more protein than the Junior, when it has a whole other patty (which looks the same size) and bun? I think they are fudging the numbers.

  2. I had the Mac Jr and wished they used a 1/4 lb patty instead of small burger. It tasted fine but would taste great with more meat. Stick with a regular Big Mac.

  3. We’ve had these for about 2-3 months in the Pittsburgh area. I would say I enjoy the Grand Mac the most. The thicker patty add’s a little more meat flavor than the traditional big mac. The Mac Jr is good if you enjoy the big mac taste but you’re just not that hungry. I’m a borderline fat slob so I have been going Grand Mac since they started.

  4. I kinda hated the Grandmaster Big Mac. The patties were a tiny bit bigger and the buns were huge. It was super messy too. It’s just a slightly bigger Mac, and by slightly I mean SLIGHTLY. I did not want to pay an extra two bucks for it.
