FAST FOOD NEWS: KFC Smoky Mountain BBQ Chicken

KFC Smoky Mountain BBQ

KFC now has a third southern-inspired friend chicken flavor — Smoky Mountain BBQ. It joins the spicy and smoky Nashville Hot Chicken and the sweet and tangy Georgia Gold Honey Mustard BBQ in what KFC calls the Taste of the South menu.

The new flavor combines barbecue recipes from Memphis and the Carolinas. According to the press release, it has a touch of vinegar to please North Carolinians, a little bit of sweetness for the Kansas City-style faithful and a crispiness that even Memphis dry rub fans will appreciate. The flavor is available with Extra Crispy Tenders, Chicken Littles, and Extra Crispy Chicken.

KFC’s Smoky Mountain BBQ Chicken is available for a limited time at participating locations.

  1. I had the 3 tender combo today (includes mashed+gravy and a biscuit). Including a large drink, total came to $8.06.

I will echo what many of the YouTube commenters have said about it concerning the chicken quality: It’s good. Sauce is very flavorable, as well, although I think I like the Nashville Hot and Georgia Gold ones a little better. I’m surprised because I’m actually a fan of Carolinas vinegar based BBQ sauce.

    Would definitely get it again.

  2. I got the tenders, biscuit, and substituted wedges for the mash potatoes without drink for $5+tax. I was pleasantly surprised by the sauce which mixed the vinegar, sweet BBQ, and general BBQ spices well. It could have had some spicy heat and mine was separated into oil and dry spices in the tray. For the other two, I like the Nashville hot but didn’t care for the Georgia gold. The tenders we’re good quality but pretty thin. Overall a good addition.
