Sonic Drive-In has found a new use for the bun its Footlong Chili Cheese Coney comes with — Footlong Philly Cheesesteaks. Yes, they are Philly Cheesesteaks in a hot dog bun.

Two varieties are available — Classic and Spicy.

The Classic version features grilled steak, onions, cheese sauce, and, um, mayo? Is mayonnaise a standard cheesesteak condiment? The Spicy version comes with grilled steak, onion, cheese sauce, zesty Baja sauce, and spicy jalapenos.

The Philly Cheesesteaks in hot dog buns have an advertised price of $3.99. They’re available for a limited time at participating Sonic locations.

  1. The use of Mayo is highly debated here in Philly, ketchup is the standard condiment but it’s not unheard of.

  2. not gonna lie………mayo on a steak sub is amazing. I am a purist when it comes to food and with cheesesteaks (Steak, onions and wiz). A few years ago I was with someone who got theres with mayo and the thought of it made me want to throw up. She INSISTED I try it. One bit was all it took……now I get mayo on my cheesesteaks every time with no shame……well…maybe a little shame.

  3. ok, i tried the regular (not spicy) and I found it disgusting. The mayo and meat are ok but on a hot dog bun? The cheese looked like cheese whiz out of a can. Revolting.
