REVIEW: Dark Chocolate Oreo Cookies

Dark Chocolate Oreo Cookies

What is Dark Chocolate Oreo?

A chocolate sandwich cookie filled with a dark chocolate creme — otherwise known as the Oreo you would have been excited for had Oreo not concurrently released a Carrot Cake flavor.

How is it?

Chocolatey in every sense of an adjective that is not strictly governed by the FDA. There is definitely an extra level of cocoa satisfaction in the creme, which is thicker than most Oreo fillings and almost ganache-like in body.

However, even though the creme makes you go, hmm, that’s almost artisanal for about 0.7 seconds, any notion of sophistication is quickly dispelled due to the overwhelming sweetness of the creme.

Is there anything else you need to know?

Even though Oreo missed a chance to capitalize on the dark chocolate flavor by swapping out the standard wafers for dark cocoa ones, the entire cookie is still better and more chocolatey than the standard chocolate version.

Although, to be honest, that isn’t saying a lot. Also, sugar is the first ingredient. Why? Because it’s always the first ingredient in Oreo cookies, that’s why. And it absolutely kills any of that deep dark cocoa aftertaste you might expect.

Conclusion:

An 82 percent fair trade organic cocoa bean inspired cookie, this is not. Still, considering some of Oreo’s clear misses in the chocolate category, the Dark Chocolate Oreo is respectable enough for those of us who tend to be a little less picky in our cookie binges.

  1. I will never be thin. As a recovering Oreoaholic I find this development to be disturbing. I fear for my waistline.

  2. One week into the New Year’s Diet Resolutions and then Oreo hits our cravings with both barrels….Carrot Cake and Dark Chocolate. Well played, Oreo…well played.

  3. The label says “Made in Canada” but I can’t find them for sale in Canada. This is disturbing.

  4. I only eat dark chocolate. these dont taste like anything , even after I dip one in the jar of creamy skippy p b

  5. Spot on review. I was searching for the bittery goodness of dark chocolate and couldn’t find it. However, it’s still an oreo, so the minute I feel the need to break my diet and binge, I’ll pull these out of the freezer.

  6. This Oreo is the best one yet! I know the calories and sugar are probably not my best friends! But I am hoping that these will be in heaven!!! I love love the dark chocolate ?? above all others!!!

  7. I’ve been eating Oreo cookies since before their old competitor Hydrox cookies went out of business. Some of their new variations are pretty good. I love dark chocolate but the Dark Chocolate Oreo’s are awful. I can’t even force myself to eat them. Does Oreo actually do taste testing research??

  8. I am a fan of Oreos and of course a fan of peanut butter so naturally the peanut butter or Reese’s would be my favorite. But oh no not since yesterday when I was at Walmart and I saw the dark chocolate Oreos. I bought them for my boyfriend cause he’s the dark chocolate lover, but one cookie and I was in LOVE… The filling is more like a creamy fudge. They are good with or without milk. I feel like a hog right now cause I ate 6 at one time. And for me the best way to eat a Oreo is to eat the cookie on top then take another cookie and eat that cookie on top then stack the filling on top of each other and repeat. Untill you have the bottom cookie and a bunch of the filling stack on top of each other. Yes, you just gained 20 pounds reading this. Lol ??? but it’s so good. To bad I already had my limit for today.
