FAST FOOD NEWS: Mtn Dew Sweet Lightning at KFC

Mtn Dew Sweet Lightning

Update: We tried it! Click here to read our review.

Yum Brands’ Taco Bell has had a couple of exclusive Mtn Dew flavors — Baja Blast and Sangria Blast. Now its sister brand, KFC, has its own Mtn Dew — Sweet Lightning.

The photo above was sent in by reader Jason G and according to the dispenser the yellow-orange-colored Dew is “charged with natural & artificial sweet peach & smooth honey.” The KFC-exclusive flavor started popping up about a month ago according to this post on Reddit.

If you’ve tried it or seen it at your local KFC, let us know in the comments.

  1. Didn’t get to try it but it was at my local KFC in North Olmsted, OH yesterday. It was on tap. Can’t imagine I’ll make it back to KFC anytime soon to try it. 🙁

    1. It is delicious, I have tried to buy it but I can’t find it in the stores

  2. Mountain Dew also has an exclusive flavor at Speedway, citrus-punch flavored Cyclone. I think it came out in April.

I find it extremely annoying that Mountain Dew can come out with 37,000 flavors and yet only the original one is offered in diet.

      1. Kroger sells a Code Red knockoff that comes in diet, if you’re in their area. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that, because I loved Diet Code Red when it came out and then it disappeared.

Also the Baja Blast seemed to exist in diet at my local Taco Bell.

      2. I’ve seen on the Mountain Dew website that Diet Code Red exists, but I’ve never found it anywhere ever. If it’s out in the wild, it must be limited to some limited geographic region and nowhere else. “Mountain Dew Diet Code Red…the drink of western Ohio, northeast Arkansas and certain swaths of Nebraska!”

  3. Just had it from KFC today for the first time and it was delicious. I hope it makes its way into stores in the future.

  4. It was REALLY good. I’m not a fan of regular Mtn Dew, but this was quite tasty. No aftertaste, very peachy.
