REVIEW: Hershey’s White with Whole Almonds

Hershey s White with Whole Almonds

What is Hershey’s White with Whole Almonds?

Let’s start with what it’s not -— white chocolate.

That caught me off guard a little, especially with this being from Hershey’s, but this candy bar contains no chocolate at all and instead is white creme with whole almonds.

How is it?

It’s just OK. Maybe my expectations were too high because this product kind of gives off the aura of being a high-end candy bar, but I wasn’t impressed. The white creme reminded me of hardened cupcake frosting, and I’m not talking the decadent type like you get at those fancy $5-a-cupcake places. I’m talking overly sweet frosting on a cupcake you get a superstore that rhymes with Malwart. As for the almonds, they were fine and whole, as promised. They were also lined up nicely down the center of the bar.

Is there anything else you need to know?

No, you don’t need to know the following information, but I’m going to give it to you anyway. I spent nearly two minutes researching what creme was, and I learned it could be a sweet liqueur or a type of cream.

But, of course, I got distracted during my extensive inquisition and focused on the accent in crème, and more specifically, why the Hershey’s wrapper didn’t have said accent. I found no answer to that question, and I didn’t really care that much to begin with, so I gave up.

But I learned that the particular accent mark in crème is called a grave accent. That sent me down a rabbit hole of punctuation names that are just fun to say and even sound a little dirty, like rough breathing (look it up, I’m not lying), retroflex hook, inverted breve, and perispomene. So have fun with those.

Conclusion:

Hershey s White with Whole Almonds Side

This is certainly worth a try if you like almonds; it is a candy bar after all, and it will definitely hit the spot if you have a hankering for something sweet. But if you are looking for an indulgent treat that will give you the weird, pleasure-filled expression you see on commercials when people are trying some fancy candy, then this one misses the mark.

  1. I am laughing so hard over your aside about the grave accent. Thank you for reporting your research!

  2. I think maybe adding some chopped almonds would be better too. Having both whole & chopped in the bar.

    1. The money of course. Years ago Hershey’s tried using fake milk chocolate in products like Mr. Goodbar also.

  3. Your review is spot-on…this “white creme” candy bar’s best attributes were the almonds. The white creme was virtually tasteless. Zero of the creaminess one expects from chocolate. If one prefers candy with a vegetable oil base to those made with cocoa butter and chocolate, this bar is for you.

  4. How does this compare to the Nestle Alpine White bars sold in the mid-1980’s? I see that these have whole almonds vs pieces, but any other info is appreciated. (Of course I was a kid then, and remember that the Planters cheese snacks tasted alot better than they do now. I threw away most of my ‘modern container since it tasted rancid.’)

  5. Denis, why did this catch you off guard? Literally every “white” product Hershey’s makes is fake white chocolate.

It’s a shame they are tarnishing even their mainline brand now, first with the “Gold” that appears to be a flop, and now this.

Meanwhile, the competition gives you real white chocolate in Twix for example.

  6. I am literally f*cking obsessed with this candy bar. I definitely do not agree that it missed its mark. Its delicious and I cant get enough. I really just wish they weren’t so bad for you. I love creme anything though and I am obsessed with nuts of any kind but, almonds are of my favorite. I had no idea that this wasn’t actually white chocolate though… but thats okay with me. I hope they dont discontinue these.

  7. There really is no much thing as white chocolate. There never has been. The mixture in this is mostly traditional for so called “white chocolate. I love it, I am allergic to Chocolate and I have never been able to stop in the candy isle and get a sweet. I do not like hard candy, so that made life harder. This is really and I can eat it as long as I do not eat too much. P.S. I make white chocolate fudge with rum flavor that’s better but this is really good.
