REVIEW: Panda Express Black Pepper Angus Steak

Panda Express Black Pepper Angus Steak

What is Panda Express’ Black Pepper Angus Steak?

The premium entree with a premium price features Angus steak with baby broccoli, onions, red bell peppers, and mushrooms in a savory black pepper sauce.

I got it as part of the $20 Family Meal online promotion that Panda Express is offering, which is $25 here on this rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

I also got it delivered through DoorDash, tipped the Dasher $5, and, because it’s a premium entree, the Black Pepper Angus Steak added another $4.50. So it was less of a deal for me. But if you do takeout, this $20 deal is THE BEST (even at $25), and I think it should stick around for longer than April 17.

How is it?

I’ve consumed a lot of different black pepper-flavored products over the years, and every single one of them had a bold black pepper flavor, which is what I was expecting with this. So I’m surprised by the mild usage of the seasoning in the sauce.

Panda Express Black Pepper Angus Steak Meat

While chewing on forkfuls of tender Angus steak pieces, veggies, and savory sauce, there was one word I couldn’t get out of my head: pizza.

Yes, that’s an odd word to put in a Panda Express review and the taste isn’t always there. Maybe it’s my subconscious telling me I should eat pizza instead of Panda. I dunno. But the combination of the savory sauce and tender Angus steak pieces starts off a little peppery and then it morphs into a flavor that’s like the Italian sausage on a pizza. Also, I feel the crunchy bell peppers and onions maybe help push the flavor in my mind.

Look, the whole pizza thing is weird, but despite that, I love it. It’s my new favorite Panda Express Angus steak entree, and I hope it sticks around.

Is there anything else you need to know?

Panda Express Black Pepper Angus Steak Baby Broccoli

I didn’t know baby broccoli was a thing. Baby carrots? Yes. Baby corn? Yes. Baby bok choy? Yes. Also, while I’m on a baby vegetable tangent, I think Brussels sprouts should be renamed to baby cabbages.

The baby broccoli’s size varies from infant to toddler. The thin infant ones are adorable, but the thicker ones look as if some watercress walked into the wok somehow.

Conclusion:

Although its flavor reminds me of Italian sausage and pizza, I think Panda Express’ Black Pepper Angus Steak that doesn’t taste like it has a lot of black pepper is worth the premium price.

  1. Aloha, you from Hawai’I? Or you mean another rock in the Pacific?

This makes wonder whether your reviews are so great because you’re just a foodie…

Or if you’re a foodie stuck on a rock in the middle of the Pacific and half your mainland food options no longer exist, there are no Dollar Stores, no budget grocers, and the food options you do have are at least $2 more expensive on top of the plastic/aluminum charges… haha

But seriously, this is my favorite food blog/review website! Panda is the one “fast food” place I can get my wife to eat. Gotta try this out cause it it tastes like pizza… I will buy it, buy a pizza, and dump it on my pizza and go straight Little Caesars with some pizza pizza!! Keep it up!

      1. Nice! I love Hawaii, save the food situation! What’s your favorite shave ice and poke here? Your food recommendation basically carries the power of the Pope to me.

        1. I’m on Oahu, so I don’t have recommendations for the other islands. But for shave ice, I’d have to go with either Shimazu Shave Ice or Waiola Shave Ice. Both have multiple locations and offer a wide variety of syrup flavors. I’ve never had shave ice on the North Shore, but that’s where a couple of the popular locations with tourist are, like Matsumoto Shave Ice.

As for poke, I’m not picky about it. But I’ve read that Ahi Assassins is good. Then there’s a place near me called Ono Seafood that’s good, but the parking situation is horrible.

Fortunately, there’s a place on Oahu that has both Shimazu Shave Ice and Ahi Assassins under the same roof. The location is called Hawaii’s Favorite Kitchens and it’s just right outside Waikiki and it shares the same area as Rainbow Drive In.

  2. Actually, that looks like “broccolini”. Often mistakenly called “baby broccoli”. It’s technically a cross between broccoli and chinese broccoli (gai-lan).

    1. I, too, thought it was broccilini, but the danged stuff I got was tough as nails. I couldn’t chew it.
Sorry, but I will never again order that dish!

  3. Not much of a peppery bite but man is this stuff salty. The meat is super tender though, I’ll give them that much! 🙂

  4. What a HUGE disappointment fr pAnDa eXpReSs, especially after having to paying the extra $3 since I decided to get my two entrees of their angus beef. It was nothing but a tarry like mush. It looked ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like the images. In the 2 servings were hardly no mushrooms & the broccoli looked like dormant trees. The beef was cut in small pieces & covered in a very dark brownish/black mush. Considering my bill was over $50 I was DISGUSTED as well w/ the fried rice. There was huge pieces of egg! I could NOT believe it. If I wanted egg for dinner, I would of had eggs. Panda Express is one of my family’s favorite restaurants but due to this experience, I’m definitely BOYCOTTING Panda Express!!!! NEVER HAVE I EVER HAD THIS BAD OF QUALITY OF FOOD??!!!! The cooks should have known better to serve this crap! To bad I can’t upload the pic!!! At this time restaurants are depending on US to keep them afloat but w/ meals who wants that kind of service!!!!
