There\u2019s something strange in my neighborhood. Unfortunately I didn\u2019t know who to call. I couldn\u2019t find one store that carried Ecto Cooler. Half of the places I called didn\u2019t even know what I was talking about!<\/p>\n

(That sound you hear is the collective gasps of every 90’s baby reading this blog.)<\/p>\n

Then a little ghost told me that Cinemark Theater chains were selling cans. So while you may not go see the new Ghostbusters<\/i> at the theater, you may have to go there to get your Ecto Cooler.<\/p>\n

You remember Ecto Cooler, right?<\/p>\n

Hi-C\u2019s popular green \u201cCitrus Cooler\u201d flavor is back for the first time since 1997! I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s been that long since we\u2019ve seen this school lunch staple. You\u2019re probably wondering if it\u2019s as good as you remember. I\u2019m gonna try my best to not let sentimentality cloud my judgment. What exactly does nostalgia taste like?<\/p>\n

It tastes like a sugar loaded tangerine orange drink. From what I recall, it\u2019s the same, but it\u2019s really not that good.<\/p>\n

\"Hi-C<\/a><\/p>\n

I made a Vigo the Carpathian face when I took my first sip. It was such a jolt, I couldn\u2019t even register if it was sweet or sour. How can something citrus be so cloyingly sweet? The sugar was so pronounced, it left a film on my tongue.<\/p>\n

Everyone remembers Ecto Cooler fondly. I don\u2019t blame you one bit, but your adult taste buds may no longer love the taste.<\/p>\n

Ecto Cooler has basically always been a marketing gimmick and we all know it. It\u2019s just orange drink dyed slime green. Was the flavor ever the main appeal?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m an adult now (debatable), and frankly, juice isn\u2019t my go-to beverage. I don\u2019t drink actual juice often, let alone Hi-C \u201cjuice,\u201d so while I\u2019ll admit it\u2019s cool to reminisce for a minute or two, I didn\u2019t even want to finish this.<\/p>\n

That aside, the taste wasn\u2019t my biggest problem with this new incarnation of Ecto Cooler.<\/p>\n

So far, the marketing for this Ghostbusters<\/i> movie is a mess. Where the heck is Slimer on this can? I can look past some subpar trailers, but that\u2019s the most egregious misstep imaginable!<\/p>\n

In my opinion most of Ecto Cooler\u2019s appeal was seeing Slimer on the box\/can. No Slimer is crazier than female Ghostbusters!!!<\/p>\n

Relax, I\u2019m kidding. I really don\u2019t care about that \u201ccontroversy\u201d one bit. I mean, by all accounts the new movie is something weird and it don\u2019t look good, but this is a food blog, not some clickbait, \u201chot take\u201d movie site using beloved favorites from your past to conjure up more views. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

\"Hi-C<\/a><\/p>\n

So, there\u2019s no Slimer, but slime is well accounted for. The can looks like it said \u201cI don\u2019t know\u201d on Nickelodeon\u2019s You Can\u2019t Do That on Television<\/i>. (Whoa, super nostalgia! Click. Click.) They used a special thermal ink that glows when the drink is cold. The \u201cHi-C\u201d and borders changed from yellowish to green. That\u2019s basically it. I guess that\u2019s kinda cool, just not Slimer cool.<\/p>\n

There are two things I ain\u2019t afraid of \u2013 no ghosts and telling it like it is. Ecto Cooler just doesn\u2019t do it for me anymore. I understand I\u2019m probably in the minority.<\/p>\n

The can has its gimmick. The color is awesome. The name is really awesome, but the actual drink is about as good as that Ghostbusters cartoon with the gorilla<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So rejoice, 90\u2019s kids. We may not be getting the movie we wanted, but we did get Ecto Cooler back on (some) shelves. It\u2019s too bad we couldn\u2019t somehow swing some Hostess Ninja Turtles Pies.<\/p>\n
