\"Sour<\/p>\n

First, they\u2019re sour, then they\u2019re sweet, now they\u2019re hot?<\/p>\n

I guess that \u201csweet and spicy\u201d candy trend continues to roll along. In fact, it\u2019s already evolved on the premise by adding sour to the equation. What\u2019s next, umami?! Am I gonna have to pretend to understand what umami is?!<\/p>\n

Ya know what, don\u2019t let me get off track. I\u2019m not here to talk about \u201cmamis,\u201d I\u2019m here to talk about kids \u2013 kids of the sour patch variety! <\/p>\n

I\u2019m also here to make awkward transitions.<\/p>\n

I have a hard time believing there are people who don\u2019t like Sour Patch Kids. I\u2019m sure there are, I just won\u2019t entertain the notion. A giant bag of SPK\u2019s and a buttery $16 movie popcorn is in the running for my desert island meal, and the one thing you need on a desert island is fire.<\/p>\n

SPK Fire chews smell like normal SPKs, but feature a duller color profile than normal.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m gonna \u201crapid fire\u201d review each flavor:<\/p>\n

\"Sour<\/p>\n

Berry Blaze<\/strong> \u2013 Pretty sour to start with an unripe berry flavor \u2013 blue, straw, black is my guess. There\u2019s a very brief window of sweetness followed by decent little burn on the end.<\/p>\n

Tropical Flame<\/strong> \u2013 Pineapple with a splash of citrus. It transitions from super sour to brief sweet, right into \u201coh yeah, I think I can kinda feel the heat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apple Fever<\/strong> \u2013 You\u2019re gonna pucker on this one. Think of the sourest Granny Smith you\u2019ve ever eaten. The burn was almost completely masked because of that.<\/p>\n

Angry Watermelon<\/strong> \u2013 Sweetest flavor in the bag. It\u2019s hard to hype these too much because Sour Patch Watermelons might be my favorite candy of all time. Imagine those except 25 percent less sweet, and with a little numbing taste at the end. These pale in comparison, but they\u2019re still good.<\/p>\n

        My heat impressions might be skewed by the order I ate them. I only had three of each flavor, so while Apple had no heat, I imagine it would\u2019ve if I started with it. That make sense? Either way, the heat is dull.<\/p>\n

        I\u2019m not sure the sour and hot combination works. That flavor progression \u2013 with the tiny pitstop in sweet-ville \u2013 almost acts as a numbing agent. Sour overwhelms your mouth, so heat doesn\u2019t have room to shine.<\/p>\n

        These tasted sourer than normal SPK\u2019s which seems dumb if \u201cFire\u201d was supposed to be the star. You could probably convince yourself the taste at the end is just a remnant of the extreme sour start, as it almost immediately starts to suck your mouth dry of saliva anyway.<\/p>\n

        So, if you\u2019re looking to tip the Scoville Scale, you may be disappointed. These are really good Sour Patch Kids, but they won\u2019t have you running for the milk. They\u2019re definitely worth a try, but I have a hard time believing they\u2019ll be mainstays on candy racks, so get ’em while they\u2019re hot.<\/p>\n
