Burger King\u2019s latest answer to the McGriddle \u2013 a breakfast sandwich with maple laced waffle cakes as buns.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s almost<\/em> there. I wanted this to be great, but it\u2019s ultimately just good. Good is good, though, right? Good.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s the thing about fast food breakfast \u2013 the bread element is the most crucial part. I\u2019m sure you\u2019re familiar with BK\u2019s eggs and meat. I\u2019ve always liked BK\u2019s fluffy folded egg, and its sausage patties are fine if not indistinguishable from anyone else\u2019s. They do their part.<\/p>\n The waffles are the big-ticket item here, but I think that might turn some people off of this sandwich.<\/p>\n I liked them, but they\u2019re not without its flaws.<\/p>\n The waffles were a little too fried for my tastes, giving them an almost \u201cfunnel cakey\u201d texture. I love that, but not sure I want it on a breakfast sandwich.<\/p>\n There are little maple spots speckled on the waffles, but they weren\u2019t sweet enough. Again, it was alllllmost<\/em> there. Getting subtle hints of sweetness was nice, but I was hoping for more.<\/p>\n I got the savory sausage because it\u2019s the best option. Let\u2019s be real. The thing is, Burger King probably should\u2019ve gone with a maple sausage patty. This could have benefitted from more maple, and that would\u2019ve been a good place to inject it.<\/p>\n Oh, and skip the cheese. It could just be me, but these savory\/sweet breakfast sandwiches absolutely do not need a slice of cheese. In fact, I\u2019d argue it knocks the sandwich down a peg as a whole.<\/p>\n It ain\u2019t great for ya, but you probably won\u2019t be mad you ate this. It\u2019s about 75% as good as a McGriddle.
