Well, folks, I\u2019m thrilled to tell you that Red Bull says it\u2019s summer.<\/p>\n

(NOTE: That theme music is \u201cRebel Rebel\u201d by David Bowie, but instead of \u201cRebel,\u201d it\u2019s \u201cRed Bull,\u201d and it\u2019s just that line, over and over, for four minutes. I won\u2019t lie, it gets old pretty quickly.)<\/em><\/p>\n I\u2019ll tell you what doesn\u2019t get old pretty quickly, the flavor of this year\u2019s Red Bull Summer Edition – Strawberry Apricot.<\/p>\n This has gotta be one of the more exciting energy drink flavor profiles I\u2019ve seen in a while, and that\u2019s because apricot is a criminally underutilized fruit.<\/p>\n I wracked my brain and couldn\u2019t think of a single drink featuring apricot. I guess Red Bull has gotten so far down the fruit list that it decided to finally dip its toe in uncharted waters, although I do think they wussed out a bit by cutting apricot with the way more familiar strawberry.<\/p>\n Upon cracking the can, the scent of sour strawberry candy smacked me in the face. That was kinda what I feared would happen. I had very little faith that the apricot would rise above or even run parallel to the strawberry.<\/p>\n Well, unfortunately (but not really\u2026), I was right, and the strawberry flavor popped right out of the gate. That\u2019s not to say I didn\u2019t get a hint of apricot.<\/p>\n The fruit has a distinctive aftertaste to it. When they\u2019re ripe, they start sweet and finish with a little sour kick. That was pretty much what happened with this drink.<\/p>\n I think apricot pushed through in another way because I don\u2019t know how to describe this flavor as anything other than \u201csoft.\u201d Perhaps I\u2019m being influenced by the texture of the fruit itself, but this was one of the more delicate Red Bull varieties I can ever remember drinking, and I think I\u2019m gonna give credit to the apricot there. It wasn\u2019t harsh at all, and that supporting flavor did its best to mute the more dominant strawberry in a way I found super light and refreshing.<\/p>\n Actually, I\u2019ll tell you what this ultimately reminded me of \u2013 Strawberry Fruit Roll-ups.<\/p>\n After a little while, that\u2019s all I could think of, but it wasn\u2019t just Strawberry Fruit Roll-up, it was also apricot fruit leather. I guess that makes sense because when I think of the more \u201cupscale\u201d fruit leathers, three flavors come to mind – strawberry, raspberry, and apricot. I always enjoyed those as a kid, and I rode a little nostalgia wave with each additional sip.<\/p>\n As for the \u201cenergy\u201d aspect, this could\u2019ve just hit me on the right day at the right time because man<\/strong>, it gave me a serious energy boost. That rarely happens anymore, so I considered it a huge bonus. I feel like the electric orange can also had a hand in hyping me up.<\/p>\n Overall, I think most loyal Red Bull drinkers will dig this year\u2019s summer edition, even you weirdos who call apricots, \u201cApe-ricots.\u201d There\u2019s a lot to like here.<\/p>\n Ok, the review\u2019s over.
