Time to fake the donuts.<\/p>\n
Donuts are probably my favorite food, and the kid in me still gets excited every time I see a new cereal on the shelf, but as far as cereals based on donut flavors\u2026 Has there ever truly been a good one?<\/p>\n
Donut cereals are usually just generic \u201cO\u201d shaped pieces with gimmicky branding. It just seems like an easy way to pass off a new idea for a quick buck. Look, I still get that fun jolt of arrested development when I see donuts on a cereal box, but the flavor always ends up being lazy. Doncha think it\u2019s time the Breakfast Gods bless us with a truly innovative donut-based cereal?<\/p>\n
Me too. Ya gotta keep waiting, though, because new Kellogg\u2019s Glazed Donut Hole Cereals ain\u2019t it.<\/p>\n
On paper, the idea of turning three of Kellogg\u2019s most prominent offerings into little \u201cglazed\u201d donut bites might seem fun, but dare I say these may be the laziest donut cereal attempts to date?<\/p>\n
Of the three flavors \u2013 Frosted Flakes, Krave, and Apple Jacks – I\u2019ll be reviewing the first two.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re sweet. They\u2019re flakey. They\u2019re iconic. Well, now they\u2019re bland little balls. They\u2019re ironic? Probably not, I don\u2019t actually know what irony is, but these are a snoozefest.<\/p>\n
I can only describe the flavor as \u201csweet-ish.\u201d Not Swedish, \u201csweet-ish.\u201d You get a basic sweet corn cereal taste with a texture I\u2019d compare to a less dense Peanut Butter Crunch. The flavor is so light they almost taste like Kix. They\u2019re lacking such a punch that you could\u2019ve told me they were a brand of \u201chealthy\u201d alternative cereal purchased from Whole Foods. They don\u2019t deliver on the promise at all. They\u2019rrrrrrre GGG-onna need to go back to the drawing board on this one.<\/p>\n

I have an admission, I\u2019ve never had Krave. I\u2019ve loved some \u201cfilled pillow\u201d cereals in the past, but they have escaped me since their inception for some reason. While I can\u2019t speak on Krave in their true form, they make for a decent \u201cglazed\u201d donut hole. They\u2019re ok. I wasn\u2019t mad. I wasn\u2019t happy either, but…<\/p>\n
These are essentially \u201cCocoa Puffs Lite.\u201d It\u2019s as if Sonny the Cuckoo Bird finally got on meds and just chilled out for a little bit. While that sounds boring, they\u2019re easily the better of the two. I\u2019m on record as saying most chocolate cereals taste the same, so I don\u2019t mind this lighter chocolate flavor. The dusty white \u201cglaze\u201d gives them a little bit of a hot cocoa flavor vibe.<\/p>\n

The back of each box boasts \u201cGlazed in Genius,\u201d but these are dumb and unglazed. It\u2019s just a faint white coating. Both cereals look similar, with Krave having a slightly darker hue.<\/p>\n
Kellogg\u2019s Glazed Donut Holes are, at best, \u201cinoffensive.\u201d They took multiple cereals out of their unique forms for no reason. It\u2019s like the factory setting was stuck on \u201cball\u201d one day, and they just rolled with it \u2013 pun possibly intended.<\/p>\n

Donut cereals do-nut work. Pun not<\/span> intended. Donut hole cereals are especially baffling. There have been approximately 4,389 ball-shaped cereals that we could\u2019ve passed off as \u201cdonut holes.\u201d I\u2019m no conspiracy theorist, but I feel like this is some kind of \u201cshrinkflation\u201d ploy where balls are cheaper to produce or something. If donut hole cereals worked, we\u2019d have \u201cDunkin\u2019 Crunchkins\u201d by now.<\/p>\n If curiosity gets the best of you and you buy these, just mix \u2019em together. It makes for a slightly better bowl of cereal.
