I really wanted to rant about the meaty-oric rise of protein snacks.<\/p>\n
I wanted this review to drip with sarcasm and cynicism about brands slapping a measly gram or two of protein into their recipes and deceptively marketing their junk as some kind of quasi-health food.<\/p>\n
I wanted to get on my soapbox and give a FED Talk about how we\u2019re all being bamboozled into believing that a little protein turns everything into a \u201cfitness hack,\u201d but then I realized, it would be I who is the hack.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m not anti-tein, I\u2019m pro-tein!<\/p>\n
(Please remind me to never say that out loud.)<\/p>\n

I feel like we\u2019re close to reaching a tipping point. Maybe it\u2019s just me, but my algorithm has been taken over by influencers screaming at me to add more protein to my diet. Big Protein is locked in on me. It\u2019s stressing me out\u2026 and when I\u2019m stressed, I gorge on snacks\u2026 snacks like new Doritos Protein!<\/p>\n
Who\u2019s ready to get yoked on nacho cheese dust?!<\/p>\n
Protein chips aren\u2019t an untapped market, but they\u2019re still fairly new. I like Quest Tortilla Chips, but of the maybe ten flavors I\u2019ve tried, I\u2019d probably only recommend about three.<\/p>\n
It shouldn\u2019t shock you to learn that Doritos probably just released the best tasting protein chip. However, if you\u2019re expecting a classic Dorito, I\u2019d temper my excitement a bit.<\/p>\n
A serving is ten chips and ten grams of protein, which really isn\u2019t terrible. It\u2019s not Quest-level, but it\u2019s more than a lot of cash grab \u201cPROTEIN\u201d boasting snack releases from legacy brands.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re made with casein protein, which is derived from milk. I know what you\u2019re thinking, \u201cNo whey!?\u201d Way, it\u2019s casein. Not a bad protein source.<\/p>\n
You\u2019re getting eight more grams of protein and nine fewer carbs per serving of these versus regular Doritos. That\u2019s good! If you\u2019re expecting gainz, you\u2019ll get \u2018em, but only in the bad way you\u2019d get said gainz with regular Doritos, because everything else is basically the same.<\/p>\n
As for the taste, they\u2019re like a solid knockoff of Doritos. The nacho flavor \u2013 which they should have called \u201cMacho Cheese,\u201d IMHO (in my hacky opinion) \u2013 is close, but you\u2019ll still think you\u2019re eating cheaper alternatives. Something is off, and it\u2019s likely due to the texture.<\/p>\n

These are thicker, crunchier, and drier than the regular tortilla chip. They\u2019re like stale, double-fried \u201crestaurant style\u201d Doritos, with a nacho flavor that seems a little spicier because of how dry they make your mouth.<\/p>\n
The protein chip textural experience is never a pleasant one. They mash down into a long-lasting, gritty protein paste that turns into cement in your teeth, and I absolutely hate that.<\/p>\n

All in all, I guess these are a mild success? We all wanna think we\u2019re living healthier, right? Like me today, I did Bis and Tris! I went to the gym, struggled through a few sets of biceps, and then ate about forty Doritos triangles.<\/p>\n
Ya know what, I don\u2019t even know if I recommend these. I didn\u2019t feel particularly satiated. They look like Doritos, smell like Doritos, but in the end, I just yearned for real Doritos. Maybe stick with a small bag of the NKD Doritos and add an extra half scoop of powder to your protein shake.<\/p>\n
