COMING SOON: Lay’s Do Us a Flavor Greektown Gyro Potato Chips

Lay s Do Us a Flavor Greektown Gyro Potato Chips

Update: We reviewed it! Click here to read our review.

I’m just going to leave this here and let you folks discuss whether this makes a good chip flavor. Also, Lay’s came out with Greek tzatziki chips. If tzatziki is the sauce that’s usually associated with gyros, will these gyro-flavored chips taste like those? (Image via Impulsive Buy reader John.)

  1. Mom makes a tzatziki-style cucumber sauce as part of her favorite Greek lamburger recipe. There is always leftover sauce, and it is delicious on potato chips. Hopefully the Gyro-flavored chips will focus on that rather than spiced lamb flavor, because much as I like gyro meat, I’m not sure it would go *that* well with greasy potatoes.

  2. I am about a 5 minute walk from Detroit Greektown and fuck ya we need those.
    GIVE ME THOSe!

  3. @Carmen, first thing I thought of when I saw this on the news was Detroit’s Greektown, but the finalist is from Texas. I’m a little disappointed!
Lay’s Kettle Cooked Greektown Gyro: James Wagner has been in the Air Force for more than 18 years, traveling the country and abroad, and discovering local tastes at each stop on his journey. While abroad, James discovered his fondness for Greek cuisine, so when he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, he immediately sought out the closest gyro specialty restaurant. As it turns out, there is one right outside the Air Force base gate. His flavor inspiration comes from his regular visits to that restaurant.

  4. I found these today at Walmart and bought a bag. They didn’t have any of the other flavors, though. Last time, the only ones that were ever available in our area were the mango salsa and cappuccino, so I’m hoping for better distribution this time. I want to try the biscuits & gravy flavor as well as the truffle fries. It’s weird this one was released ahead of the others. It seems like it would give them an advantage over the other finalists.

Anyway, I love gyros so I was hoping they’d be good, but at the same time, I was worried they wouldn’t get the flavor right. I was impressed with them, though. They taste like a mix of the gyro meat and the sauce. This makes me hopeful for the other flavors.
