Many of you might be wondering why the site looks different.
Well, the old theme (the way the site looked) has a vulnerability in it, which I learned about Wednesday morning. Basically, that vulnerability affects the security of the site so I had to pull the theme and use a default theme for the time being. I don’t know if the developers of our old theme (which was free and hasn’t been updated in two years) will offer an update to close that vulnerability.
I’ve been looking into other themes I could possibly use on a permanent basis. There are thousands out there and this one the site is currently using is one of the defaults for the blogging software the site runs on. So I can trust that it’ll be updated regularly. At the same time, I’ve also been trying to make this current theme a bit more tolerable.
I’ve heard your issues and agree with them. Comment count? Yeah, I want that. Hard to read font? Yeah, I read that in the comments, although that was a little hard to read because the font is hard to read. Photos too big? It shouldn’t be an issue with posts starting from Thursday. They should scale down to size no matter what device you’re using. But the thousands of posts before that, um, yeah, that’s an issue. With the posts from Thursday on, I’ve had to change how I format them. But if you’re seeing that with newer posts, let me know.
I’d really like the old theme back. I think the site has been using it for almost 10 years. But if the vulnerability doesn’t get fixed, I have to permanently switch to a new theme. But for now, what you see here is what we’ll be using for the time being, and I’ll be making some tweaks to it to make it better. I apologize for the inconvenience and I ask for your patience as I try to figure things out.
