Why The Site Looks Different Now

Many of you might be wondering why the site looks different.

Well, the old theme (the way the site looked) has a vulnerability in it, which I learned about Wednesday morning. Basically, that vulnerability affects the security of the site so I had to pull the theme and use a default theme for the time being. I don’t know if the developers of our old theme (which was free and hasn’t been updated in two years) will offer an update to close that vulnerability.

I’ve been looking into other themes I could possibly use on a permanent basis. There are thousands out there and this one the site is currently using is one of the defaults for the blogging software the site runs on. So I can trust that it’ll be updated regularly. At the same time, I’ve also been trying to make this current theme a bit more tolerable.

I’ve heard your issues and agree with them. Comment count? Yeah, I want that. Hard to read font? Yeah, I read that in the comments, although that was a little hard to read because the font is hard to read. Photos too big? It shouldn’t be an issue with posts starting from Thursday. They should scale down to size no matter what device you’re using. But the thousands of posts before that, um, yeah, that’s an issue. With the posts from Thursday on, I’ve had to change how I format them. But if you’re seeing that with newer posts, let me know.

I’d really like the old theme back. I think the site has been using it for almost 10 years. But if the vulnerability doesn’t get fixed, I have to permanently switch to a new theme. But for now, what you see here is what we’ll be using for the time being, and I’ll be making some tweaks to it to make it better. I apologize for the inconvenience and I ask for your patience as I try to figure things out.

Well one good thing about this new thing is it does notify you of replies to your comments! I like that feature a lot and missed it when it was gone.

Well Marvo if you need help here I can do it. I have done WordPress based work for over 10 years.

Hope you can get it fixed, or at least find a neat new theme that works for you!

We always hate change. And yeah, not having the comment count sucks. Do your best to find a theme you think will work and we’ll adapt. Thanks Marvo.

Thank you for telling us what is up! I was confused. I will always be a loyal reader but I miss the old theme too. Thanks for all of your work!

I’m loving the bold new headline font. I hope that sticks around.

Initially I thought the change might mean that you weren’t allowing comments any longer. I was a regular hair for years and stopped visiting the site for a long time due to so many nasty comments on post after post. I hope you are able to find a format that works for you. It wouldn’t be heartbreaking if there were no more comments.

Sounds like I might be in the minority, but I love the new theme. It’s so clean!

Agreed that a comment count would be handy though.

I just came here for the first time since the change. At first I was mad, throwing a dumb little tantrum inside my head. I thought “why Marvo? why?”

Now that I see why this change happened all I can do it thank you and feel disappointed at my initial judgement. You’ve shown nothing but grace and good taste over the years so for me to just assume you defecated on your web design for no reason was hasty.
