Ugh. McDonald’s new Caesar Sauce makes me annoyed because it reminds me that the Golden Arches used to offer salads, like Caesar, Bacon Ranch, and a few others. And of course I can’t forget about the Southwest Salad, which was my go-to when it was available. Oh, and Salad Shakers. Man, I miss those.
But now there’s a new Caesar Sauce with no salad to put it on. Instead, it’s for dipping McNuggets and McCrispy Strips, and it’s also being added to a new Snack Wrap and McCrispy sandwich. I ended up getting the Caesar Sauce with the McNuggets that came with my $6 McChicken Meal Deal, and I also got the Caesar Snack Wrap.
This sauce, sadly, doesn’t have a unique name, like Nether Flame or Special Grade Garlic. If I were in McDonald’s marketing, I would’ve called it Et tu, BruDIP? Horrible name, you say? You’re absolutely correct.
So yes, it basically tastes like Caesar dressing. Not the kind made tableside at a fancy restaurant with a dress code, but the kind that comes out of a bottle from the grocery store. Oh, you’ve never had Caesar dressing out of spite because of the silent A? Because the first time you pronounced it, you said SAY-ZER, and you could sense everyone judging you? No? Just me?
Not surprisingly, since chicken is usually included in Caesar salads, the sauce works well with the McNuggets. It’s savory from the parmesan cheese, a little tangy, and has a hint of garlic. It clings to the chicken the way a creamy sauce should, and despite its strong flavors, the McNugget taste still comes through. Dipping my fries into it was also enjoyable.
I can’t say the same about the Snack Wrap, though. The sauce’s flavor doesn’t come through as much as I’d like because all the other ingredients dilute it. Though that’s probably a Snack Wrap problem more than a Caesar Sauce problem. However, with the lettuce in the Snack Wrap, it was the closest I’ve gotten to having a salad at McDonald’s again.
While McDonald’s Caesar Sauce makes me annoyed for reminding me about my beloved and discontinued Southwest Salad, I’ll probably order it again with McNuggets. It’s a familiar flavor, but a tasty one. So now that we’ve got a Caesar sauce, maybe it’s time to have a Caesar salad again at McDonald’s.
