I can’t wait for a review of the plant-based SPAM!
Yes! Tell us which one is more disgusting! 🙂
In all honesty though I’ve never tried SPAM so I don’t really have an opinion of it. It’s just never appealed to me.
SPAM doesn’t really taste bad, but it’s disgusting to look at, especially right after you’ve slide it from the can, with a plop and the jelly oozes down the sides.
Mmmm…unctuous! Hehe. That description reminds me of the corned beef in tins that I grew up with.
“Chocolate flavored shell” = Sheesh, what a let down.
Well…at least the chocolate flavoured shell doesn’t encapsulate frozen dairy dessert?
What is “luncheon”?
“Luncheon” is simply a more formal lunch. I am guessing you aren’t coming from the corporate world where it’s common to have a business luncheon. They are the best kind as they are normally at $$$ places and you get paid to attend.
I think it’s more so referring to the fact that it’s cooked/cured lunch sandwich meat which is what traditionally was a part of a luncheon.
We used to have Hot Dog Luncheons a couple times a year in grade school where we could buy hot dogs, chips and a drink for lunch and would sit together in the gym. The rest of the year we brought our lunch from home.
Jeri is right, It appears to be a plant based spam that’s pre sliced
They also sell plant based ground pork and pork strips.
Also listed is plant based fish style fillets
I got a chance to try the Omni “luncheon” vegan homage to SPAM at a half-price sale. The packaging was different from that shown, so I don’t know for sure if they are exactly the same. My records show OmniPork as the manufacturer, but I think Omni is the same thing. They are shaped like small slices of SPAM and seem to hit the SPAM spot for me. I had said long ago that we needed a vegan SPAM…. Worth a try if you see them for a decent price.
I only have baked them in a oven without extra oil so far, they probably are best fried up in a pan like we did with SPAM when I was a kid. One slice has 70 calories, 200 mg sodium, 5 grams protein, 2 grams carbohydrate, 5 grams fat.
I bought those Favorite Day ice cream bites on impulse and they were surprisingly good! They’re not something you bite into or it will break apart but are manageable enough.
Not a fan of the mint flavor. Wasn’t bad. Tasted like a cold peppermint patty. But prefer the vanilla and chocolate version.
