Limited Edition Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies (REVIEW)

It’s a little weird that these Tate’s Bake Shop Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies didn’t show up on shelves before St. Patrick’s Day since the holiday signifies a season of minty things for some reason, like McDonald’s Shamrock Shake. But these are definitely meant for summer because the packaging they come in wishes us a “Happy Summer!” You too, mint green packaging that would’ve looked better in February and March.

As for the cookies, they are probably the least mintiest mint chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had. They definitely smell minty, like a mint chocolate chip ice cream, but their mint level is probably 40-50 percent of what Thin Mints offer. I also wish the chocolate stood out a bit more. I won’t pick them up again if they come back next summer, or if released before St. Patrick’s Day.

Update: The cookies got mintier after pulling them out of the fridge. Yes, I store cookies in the fridge.

Limited Edition Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies (REVIEW)

These Tate’s Bake Shop Limited Edition Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies have a wonderful aroma. It smells as if I’m hanging out next to a Mrs. Field’s at the mall. My nose doesn’t detect that they’re anything more than chocolate chip cookies, but that alone is a great scent to, I imagine, 99.9 percent of the population.

I thought the chocolate chips also had salted caramel flavor, but they don’t. Instead, there are salted caramel-flavored pieces in the cookie, which appear as tiny protrusions on the cookie’s surface. They taste more like toffee than caramel, and they definitely crunch more like toffee than caramel. Those pieces also provide all the saltiness, which is noticeable from the first bite to the aftertaste. They’re not like potato chip-salty, but, on occasion, they perhaps get too salty for a cookie. However, overall, these are an enjoyable sweet and salty treat.
