UNSCIENTIFIC POLL: Which Discontinued Ben & Jerry’s Flavor Should Return?

Temporary Poster.

A few weeks ago, TIB reader Tommy and I were lamenting on how Ben & Jerry’s should bring back discontinued flavors in the comments for the post about Ben & Jerry’s new Sundae flavors. And that got me wondering which flavor would I want to be dug out of the company’s Flavor Graveyard. Is it a flavor I never got the change to try or one that I did try and miss dearly?

So I went down the rabbit hole known as The Impulsive Buy’s Ben & Jerry’s reviews, along with taking a detour to the Flavor Graveyard page on Ben & Jerry’s website and the Contact Us page on the site that allows you to request a flavor to come back via a loooooooooooong drop down list. After all that, I’ve narrowed it down to one flavor — Bob Marley’s One Love.

It debuted in 2017 and it featured banana ice cream with caramel and graham cracker swirls and fudge peace signs. Although, it was a limited batch, I could’ve sworn it was on shelves for over a year. If Ben & Jerry’s invented a time machine and went back to the year 2025, it could’ve released it for Bob Marley’s 80th birthday. Or, although it would be morbid, the company could re-release it this year for the 45th anniversary of his death. You know what? It doesn’t matter when. I just want it to happen.

Here’s what I wrote in my review of it:

Because I like to scrape away the top layer with my spoon after first opening a pint, I got only the ice cream and swirls for my first few spoonfuls. Just those three ingredients created a combination that made me sing, “We’re jammin’, we’re jammin’, and I hope you like jammin’ too.”

Being a fan of banana-flavored anything, I love the ice cream base. Its flavor is mild and it works well with the buttery caramel and graham cracker swirls. Actually, the gooey caramel, gritty graham cracker swirl, and creamy banana ice cream brought back memories of Magnolia Bakery’s Banana Pudding.

If you follow this site closely, you probably know I love banana-flavored products as much as four-year-olds love their stuffies, and I have said there needs to be more banana ice cream varieties in the freezer aisle. So Ben & Jerry’s One Love is the flavor that I want back.

I also asked a few others what flavors they think should make a comeback.

“I think I’d want to bring back the epicness that was Clusterfluff (aka What a Cluster). Peanut butter ice cream with caramel cluster pieces, marshmallow swirls, & peanut butter swirls. Texture, flavor, sweetness. It had it all and I loved every bite. It’s sad that we’ve gone over a decade without this great flavor.”

“The Ben & Jerry’s flavor I would bring back is Cinnamon Buns. It had caramel ice cream with cinnamon bun dough and a cinnamon streusel swirl. The flavor ran from 2008 to 2023, when it was replaced by Churray for Churros.

Cinnamon Buns was a perfect harmony of the ice cream, chewy dough pieces, and sticky swirl. It was one of the few Ben & Jerry’s flavors I bought on repeat, and I’m sure I’ve polished off a pint in one sitting by digging for more cinnamon bun dough and then hitting the bottom.

Its successor is good, but not stellar like Cinnamon Buns.”

“While 90% of my Ben & Jerry’s fandom has been spent firmly in the full fat full dairy part of its lineup, the elusive discontinued pint I think about the most comes from the early years of B&J’s Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert offerings: Caramel Almond Brittle. I’m not sure exactly when this came out but I first tried and reviewed it on my blog in 2018. It had an almond flavored almond milk base with salted caramel swirls and pieces of almond brittle.

There is no doubt that the B&J non-dairy base has improved over the years, but this one, which leaned into the nutty almond notes with a hefty dose of floral almond extract, really worked. The texture always seemed exceptionally smooth and the pints were always loaded with crunchy, buttery brittle and sticky salty sweet swirls of caramel.

It was one of those experiences where each time I would say out loud ‘I can’t believe this is vegan.’ I bought it whenever I came across it at the grocery store. It’s not a flavor for everyone but it was for me, and I miss it dearly. Especially when I would pop off the lid and get greeted by a huge pool of caramel akin to a premium $13 pint from Salt & Straw, which happened multiple times during its short-lived run.”

So what flavor(s) would you like to see Ben & Jerry’s bring back.

There are three flavors I would love to see return. Oh Pear because it is such a rare and unique flavor and very hard to find these days. Purple Passion Fruit because passion fruit has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity and I think it would do quite well now. And finally Wild Maine Blueberry because it is one of my favorite fruit flavors and it is hard to find it done as well as this was.

    1. I do love pear. I would’ve jumped right TF on that flavor if I had known about it, but all those do sound really good.

    2. Those are sound like excellent picks. Any fruity flavors in general. It feels like Ben & Jerry’s only predominantly does non fruity flavors in recent years or mixes them with some sort of cream or chocolate base instead of just a full fruit flavor.

    3. I wouldn’t mind trying a pear-flavored ice cream. Although the rest of Oh Pear seems a little weird to me–a hint of almond and a light fudge swirl. I wouldn’t mind a pear flavored ice cream with honeycombs and/or a cinnamon swirl.

  2. Mission to Marzipan! Sweet cream base with almond cookies and marzipan swirl. I have never had anything like it before or since.

    1. This has my vote! I bought ENDLESS pints of that stuff and inhaled it over and over. Never found another red velvet as good.

  3. Reading previous comments, I’d go for the pear (if you ever get a chance to try pear gelato…it’s life changing), apple pie or peach cobbler, but my personal favorite was Oatmeal Cookie Chunk.

Scotchy Scotch Scotch was amazing. The other Phish flavor they briefly released a few years back, It’s Ice-Cream, was far better than Phish Food imo

  5. Chocolate Cherry Garcia was my all time favorite. It’s with frozen yogurt instead of ice cream, but love that combo of chocolate and cherry.

  6. Cake My Day – Vanilla Cake Batter Ice Cream with Vanilla Cake Pieces, Buttercream Frosting & Raspberry Swirls. Best cake ice cream they ever made.

Peanut Butter Jam Session – Peanut butter ice cream with a crunchy peanut butter swirl and a raspberry Swirl. Perfect pb and j flavor. Which that combo is very rare in ice cream surprisingly. Shame they got rid of it.

Pecan Sticky Buns – Buttery brown sugar ice cream with pecans, sticky bun dough
and a cream cheese frosting swirl. It was like an alternate version of their cinnamon bun flavor but more buttery than cinnamony, and with pecans. Now they’re both gone 🙁

3 of the best discontinued/limited batch flavors I’ll never forget.

  7. Pamela Sheppard

I have 3 that I really miss. Willie Nelson Peach cobbler, Cluster fluff (aka what a cluster) and Dublin Mudslide

  8. It will always be Wavy Gravy for me! My husband still asks me why they don’t make chocolate PB cookie dough anymore. I also hanker for Rainforest Crunch on occasion. The early-mid 90’s flavors were the best.

  9. Coconutterly Fair!

Chocolate ice cream, coconut caramel swirls & chocolatey covered coconut caramel crunch.

It was like a Samoa cookie in ice cream form.

  10. I also wanted to add that Cinnamon Buns is absolutely fantastic and I am a chocoholic. It has not been discontinued!

  11. This is an easy one for me: Sweet Like Sugar

slightly almond-y ice cream, cherries, shortbread cookie pieces and a sugar cookie dough core. SO GOOD.

  12. One Love was a truly exceptional flavor, but the one I dream about is Late Night Snack. The vanilla bean base balanced perfectly with the salted caramel and the fudge potato chip clusters tied it all together. I know this one’s probably never coming back, but I hope…

  13. The Big Lewbowski

Bonnaroo Buzz was a favorite while it lasted. Coffee & malt ice cream with a bourbon Caramel swirl and huge chunks of chocolate toffee. I picked it up wherever I saw it.
