SPOTTED ON SHELVES – 7/18/2014

Here are some interesting new and limited edition products found on store shelves by us and your fellow readers. If you’ve tried any of the products, share your thoughts about them in the comments.

Old El Paso Nacho Cheese Flavored Taco Shells

Taco Bell’s Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Tacos don’t have a strong nacho cheese chip flavor. Maybe I should slide one into an Old El Paso Nacho Cheese Taco Shell. (Spotted by Alex at Sam’s Club.)

YoCrunch with Twix YoCrunch with Snickers

Wouldn’t they have been better if they came with Twix or Snickers bars? Could’ve used them as spoons to shovel yogurt into my mouth. (Spotted by Erin at Giant.)

Hershey's Cookies 'n' Creme Yoplait Yogurt and Whoppers with Yoplait Yogurt

We already covered the one in the middle, but I didn’t know it had siblings. (Spotted by Erin at Giant.)

Jif To Go Dippers Creamy Peanut Butter with Pretzels

You may see a Jif To Go Dippers, but I see a Jif To Go Dippers-scented Renuzit Cone. (Spotted by L at Walmart.)

FAST FOOD NEWS: Taco Bell Grilled Breakfast Burritos, Cheesy Burritos, and Grande Scrambler Burritos

Taco Bell Fiesta Potato Grilled Breakfast Burrito and Steak Grande Scrambler Burrito

Taco Bell is now offering three new breakfast burrito varieties: Grilled Breakfast Burritos, Cheesy Burritos, and Grande Scrambler Burritos.

The Grilled Breakfast Burritos come with scrambled eggs, nacho cheese sauce, pico de gallo, and either sausage, bacon, steak, or seasoned fiesta potatoes in a tortilla, all of which is then grilled.

Taco Bell Cheesy Burritos Bacon Steak and Egg

Taco Bell’s Cheesy Burritos are available in three varieties: Bacon, Sausage, and Steak and Egg. The bacon and sausage ones have a double portion of scrambled eggs and melted cheddar cheese in a flour tortilla, while the Steak and Egg Cheesy Burrito also includes melted cheddar cheese and a jalapeño sauce.

Wait a minute. Let me get this straight. Taco Bell replaced their old breakfast burritos that came with eggs, cheese, and your choice of bacon or sausage with new breakfast burritos that come with eggs, cheese, and your choice of bacon or sausage? Great!

The Grande Scrambler Burritos feature scrambled eggs seasoned breakfast potatoes, nacho cheese sauce, pico de gallo, reduced fat sour cream, cheddar cheese and either steak, bacon, or sausage in a flour tortilla.

One of the issues I had with the original items on Taco Bell’s breakfast menu was the fact that they weren’t very Taco Bell-ish beyond the flour tortilla. The addition of nacho cheese sauce, pico de gallo, and jalapeño sauce to these items make them more interesting than the first wave of products.

Nutrition facts for the new breakfast burritos can be found here.

SPOTTED ON SHELVES: North Star Moon Pie Ice Cream Sandwiches (Banana and Chocolate)

North Star Moon Pie Ice Cream Sandwiches (Banana and Chocolate)

I could’ve sworn Moon Pie Ice Cream Sandwiches already existed because how could an awesome idea like that not have existed until 2014? The press release I read says they’re new, so I guess no one was smart (or high) enough to come up with the idea before 2014? The chocolate one is made with marshmallow flavored ice cream, two graham cracker wafers, and milk chocolate. The banana version is made with banana flavored ice cream, graham cracker wafers, and a banana flavored coating. (Spotted by Tiffany at Food City.)

FAST FOOD NEWS: Krispy Kreme Carrot Cake and Banana Pudding Doughnuts

Krispy Kreme Carrot Cake and Banana Pudding Doughnuts

Krispy Kreme’s new Southern Summer Classics doughnuts line features two varieties: Banana Pudding and Carrot Cake.

I didn’t realize carrot cakes were a Southern and summer thing. With all the carrot cake-flavored products during Easter, I thought it was a spring thing. But maybe it is a spring dessert and Krispy Kreme decided to break the rules because they don’t follow rules. If they did, they wouldn’t be Krispy Kreme. Instead, they would be Crispy Creme.

The Banana Pudding Doughnut is filled with banana creme filling and is topped with a banana icing and a vanilla wafer topping. The Carrot Cake Doughnut is a cake doughnut baked with carrots and spice, and topped with cream cheese icing and stripes of orange icing.

The Banana Pudding Doughnut has 390 calories 23 grams of fat, 10 grams of saturated fat, 150 milligrams of sodium, 44 grams of carbohydrates, 24 grams of sugar, and 4 grams of protein. The Carrot Cake Doughnut has 340 calories, 14 grams of fat, 6 grams of saturated fat, 310 milligrams of sodium, 52 grams of carbohydrates, 35 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of protein.

The two treats are available until August 31st at participating locations in the U.S. and Canada.
