FAST FOOD NEWS: McDonald’s Bacon BBQ Burger and Snickerdoodle McFlurry

McDonald’s is offering two new menu items during the holiday season, the festive Snickerdoodle McFlurry and the equally festive Bacon BBQ Burger, if you celebrate National Bacon Day on December 30.

The burger comes with a 1/4 lb. fresh beef patty, Applewood-smoked bacon, American cheese, fried onion strings, and a bourbon BBQ sauce on an artisan roll. The menu item is also available with two beef patties.

The Bacon BBQ Burger with a single patty has 710 calories, 36 grams of fat, 15 grams of saturated fat, 1.5 gram of trans fat, 120 milligrams of cholesterol, 1530 milligrams of sodium, 54 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, 15 grams of sugar, and 41 grams of protein.

McDonald’s newest treat, the Snickerdoodle McFlurry, is vanilla soft serve with snickerdoodle topping mixed throughout.

A regular sized one has 530 calories, 19 grams of fat, 12 grams of saturated fat, 0.5 gram of trans fat, 50 milligrams of cholesterol, 300 milligrams of sodium, 79 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 65 grams of sugar, and 13 grams of protein.

FAST FOOD NEWS: Sonic Biggie Cheese

Sonic Drive-In has a new limited time only product on its menu — the Biggie Cheese. It’s a cheeseburger with double the beef and triple the cheese of a standard cheeseburger.

To be more specific, the menu item has two 100% pure beef patties, three slices of American cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and a tangy hickory BBQ sauce on a soft brioche bun.

The Biggie Cheese is available now through February 2, while supplies last at participating Sonic Drive-Ins.

REVIEW: Kit Kat DUOS Mint + Dark Chocolate

What is Kit Kat DUOS Mint + Dark Chocolate?

This is Kit Kat’s newest permanent U.S. flavor. This is a big deal for American Kit Kat lovers since it’s been a very long time since a new variety has made a debut with plans to stay (i.e., not seasonal or limited time). This bar is Kit Kat’s crispy wafers with the milk chocolate replaced with mint crème on top and dark chocolate on the bottom. The result is supposed to be a “duo” of two flavors.

How is it?

It smells like mint chocolate, and it tastes like mint chocolate. So if you like mint chocolate and Kit Kat’s iconic wafers, then this is your candy bar. You’ve probably now noticed that I’ve used the word mint a lot (seven times now if you count headings and titles), and that’s because mint is the dominant flavor of this Kat Kat variation.

I’m a fan of both mint AND dark chocolate and was hoping this duo would be an equal pairing, but it is unfortunately not. I think a mint + milk chocolate duo might be preferred to help increase the prevalence of chocolate taste.

Is there anything else you need to know?

It’s not minty enough to be an actual after-meal mint (it’s just that mint > dark chocolate flavor). If you need a breath freshener, then you should go for something else.

It’s also not quite as creamy as an Andes Mint, which makes sense as it is a Kit Kat bar with crispy wafers. For me, Andes Mints set the standard for mint chocolate (and also represent the end of a carb-loaded, satisfying meal at the Olive Garden…which I now want).

Conclusion:

It’s a mint Kit Kat and still a solid candy bar choice. Like most Kit Kats, this product separates well and is good for sharing, although I don’t typically share my candy bars.

Lastly, despite the uneven pairing in this DUOS bar, I still have high hope for future DUOS flavors.

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Elaine!

Hi! I’m Elaine and I’m like a foodie-Superman with a lot less powers and no toned abs. Like Superman, I have speed – I can scarf a cheeseburger faster than anybody I know. I also have enhanced senses and can identify when dessert is nearby. As an avid consumer of edible goods with years of experience eating and critiquing nutritionally bad food, I’ve been honing these superpowers.

I’m always on the lookout for new and better tasting products to try. Carbohydrates, in any form, call to me. Are carbs my yellow sun or kryptonite? Huh. Naturally and like many of you, I found TIB years ago and now check it daily. I’m delighted to now be a TIB reviewer. What’s better than trying scrumptious products while subsidizing a food addiction?

While I have a day job that requires a lot of work, I spend my free time daydreaming of delicious dishes to try. Prior to the years of training and education required for my day job, I honed my palate by working at Taco Bell. I come from a long line of Taco Bell employees. Seriously, this line includes my mother, sister, brother, cousin, second cousin, and probably some other relatives I don’t know about.

I have also worked as part of the Hy-Vee family, a Midwest supermarket chain. Hopefully you’ll find these qualifications worthy of a cape. No skintight suit for me please (see ab description above).
