QUICK REVIEW: Hershey’s Milk Chocolate & Reese’s Pieces Bar

Hershey s Milk Chocolate Reese s Pieces Bar

What is the Hershey’s Milk Chocolate & Reese’s Pieces Bar?

The love child of a Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar and Reese’s Pieces, or as the Hershey’s marketing folks put it “the ultimate celebration of the top two iconic chocolate franchises that will melt your heart to pieces for a once-in-a-lifetime epic treat.”

How is it?

Based on the aforementioned tagline, I was fully prepared for a life-changing, out-of-body experience that I would eventually tell my grandchildren about. Sadly, the little yet-to-be-born rascals will instead have to listen to other stories, like the time I saw The Rock at the airport. But despite not quite living up to the WWE-style marketing hype, this is a tasty treat.

The Reese’s Pieces stand out nicely from the milk chocolate and provide a solid crunch that is obviously absent from a plain chocolate bar. The candy also adds a light peanut butter flavor that complements the creamy chocolate perfectly without making you think you are just eating a flattened peanut butter cup.

Is there anything else you need to know?

If the photos don’t give it away, the Reese’s Pieces are actually minis. There is also a king size version of this, but I didn’t have any luck finding it. If that one has a thicker bar with full-size Pieces, it might offer a bit more crunchiness. Also, whoever designed the wrapper apparently doesn’t believe in equality in the candy world, because the Hershey’s part covers much more than half.

Conclusion:

At first glance, I figured this wouldn’t be much different than just chucking some Reese’s Pieces in my mouth along with a bite of a Hershey’s bar, but having the Pieces embedded in the chocolate takes this to the next level. It might not be an epic candy creation — like Reese’s Pieces were — but it’s a nice change of pace from the standard chocolate bar.

QUICK REVIEW: Krispy Kreme Cinnamon Swirl Doughnut

Krispy Kreme Cinnamon Swirl Doughnut

What is the Krispy Kreme Cinnamon Swirl Doughnut?

This Krispy Kreme kreation kombines the khain’s klassic ring doughnut that’s tossed in cinnamon sugar and topped with cream cheese icing and a cinnamon swirl. So, yeah, it’s pretty much Krispy Kreme’s way of getting more cinnamon and sugar on its Cinnamon Sugar Doughnut.

And, yeah, I thought the whole K for a C thing got old halfway through the opening sentence, so that’s why “cream cheese” didn’t get swapped.

How is it?

I think Krispy Kreme was trying to make a cinnamon roll doughnut with this but without having to call it that because that would mess with peoples’ heads. If the chain did call it that, some folks might be expecting a pastry hybrid, like a cronut.

Of course, if somehow that was possible, cinnamon rollghnut would obviously be its name. Krispy Kreme (or Dunkin’), please make a cinnamon rollghnut (or in Dunkin’s case, a cinnamon rollnut).

Krispy Kreme Cinnamon Swirl Doughnut 2

The cream cheese icing is what makes this round treat taste like a cinnamon roll. But the weird thing is, the white-colored icing doesn’t have a strong flavor on its own, and it’s the same with the cinnamon swirl. But when eaten all together, all the flavors pop. I can’t explain it. Despite the double dose of the sweet spice, there’s no cinna-overkill.

Is there anything else you need to know?

Sliding a doughnut down your pointer finger and eating the circled pastry from the outside in, while using your other pointer finger to rotate it should be the default way of eating one.

Conclusion:

If you’re a fan of Krispy Kreme’s Cinnamon Sugar Doughnut, but wished it had more of a sugary punch, then the Cinnamon Swirl Doughnut is the right hook your sweet tooth will get hit with and like it. It pretty much takes one of Krispy Kreme’s classic, simple doughnuts and makes it better. If there was a vote to have this replace the classic version, I’d vote for it.

FAST FOOD NEWS: Starbucks Juniper Latte

Starbucks Juniper Latte

Starbucks has a new wintery beverage this season.

No, it’s not a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Mocha Frappuccino, which I imagine would be a cranberry mocha Frappuccino mix that’s topped with a chocolate-infused whipped cream and a round piece of chocolate with a shiny red candy shell. And, it would come with an antler-shaped crazy straw.

The new drink is the Juniper Latte and it’s made with Starbucks’ signature espresso and steamed milk infused with juniper syrup that’s topped with a velvety foam and pine-citrus sugar. It’s inspired by a Juniper holiday beverage that debuted last year exclusively at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Seattle.

Starbucks’ Juniper Latte is available for a limited time, while supplies last.

A Grande with 2% milk has 260 calories, 7 grams of fat, 4.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 gram of trans fat, 25 milligrams of cholesterol, 160 milligrams of sodium, 37 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, 35 grams of sugar, 12 grams of protein, and 150 milligrams of caffeine.
